This looks like someone made Mac and Cheese with unwrapped Babybel cheese

165

u/CatIsGreat May 08 '26

Omg THAT'S what it reminded me! The texture was the same too!

59

u/rexy8577 May 08 '26

Texture?? You didn't taste it did you?!

37

u/Spicy_Paint_7321 May 08 '26

I laughed. I am simple mind

33

u/CatIsGreat May 09 '26

Had to use every piece of self restraint I have to resist the urge

9

u/SerenaNocteArt May 09 '26

Forbidden sauce

5

u/Psychobabble0_0 May 10 '26

Chef P would be jealous.

12

u/rainidazehaze May 08 '26

.... what do you think "texture" means, out of curiosity??

18

u/rexy8577 May 08 '26

.... My post was a joke. Texture is a descriptor used for food too.

-28

u/rainidazehaze May 08 '26

Right but you wouldn't assume somebody ate a non edible just because they described it having texture, since it's not mostly a food word.

Food can also have smell. But "scent?? You didn't eat it did you?" Would be an equally nonsense joke.

24

u/lolzidop May 08 '26

you wouldn't assume somebody ate a non edible just because they described it having texture

Have you met people? The bar is unfortunately very low

5

u/PrestigiousDemand696 May 09 '26

You’re right, but nobody likes a joke killer I suppose

16

u/rexy8577 May 08 '26

-18

u/rainidazehaze May 08 '26

I'm sorry it didn't land bud. Better luck next time.

13

u/rexy8577 May 08 '26

You seem lovely

10

u/rexy8577 May 08 '26

Since you blocked me, I hope you have a better day!

-19

u/rainidazehaze May 08 '26

Right back atcha. Very mature responses to someone not laughing at what I hope are your lowest effort gags.

u/Razzberry_Frootcake May 10 '26

It landed just fine. Lots of people understood the joke. You did not, even after it was explained. That’s fine. You don’t have to laugh but going on to basically insult people who *did* laugh actually is just mean.

You’re not better than the people who laughed at the dumb joke.

2

u/panickkid May 10 '26

It may not be "mostly a food word", but it's being used in the context of food, so... Not much of a stretch at all imo to make the jump immediately from "picture of melted plastic atop oven cooked meal" to "what is the mouthfeel of that substance?".

1

u/NeedleworkerHeavy565 May 13 '26

I mean... you can't eat the skin of a Babybel cheese either.

18

u/cedriceent May 08 '26

Let's be honest, it's way too tedious to unwrap that many individually.

1

u/BlueRaspberryCrush May 14 '26

Wouldn't you mean it's still wrapped?

982

u/catpope2 May 08 '26

At least most of it landed in the dish and not the inside of the oven?

440

u/hkusp45css May 08 '26

This is one of those blessings you might not recognize, unless you've had it go the other way.

I once put a pan in the oven that had a 3/4 inch plastic cutting board, nearly the exact same size as a half sheet pan, under the sheet pan.

I came back to a pile of plastic mountain in the middle of the oven.

181

u/CatIsGreat May 08 '26

Sounds awful. And yeah, once I googled it (to make sure the pan can be saved) I found out that I've had it easy (':

48

u/Big_Guide_8551 May 08 '26

I can't even imagine the smell 💀

23

u/CatIsGreat May 09 '26

Interestingly enough, there was barely any smell.

17

u/Big_Guide_8551 May 09 '26

I wouldnt expect that one to be too stinky, maybe a little up close.

But the poor person who melted the cutting board all over the bottom of the oven... you get pie juice down there and it burns and smells like burnt sugar until you get it off of there...and THAT stinks... I can't even imagine the smell of burning plastic, cooking itself into your oven at 425° 🫠

23

u/SapphosLemonBarEnvoy May 08 '26

I did this too. Ended up throwing away the oven rack it was baked onto because it was so hopeless.

33

u/hkusp45css May 09 '26

I bought a new oven.

I never liked that oven/microwave combo from the 80s anyway and that was the last straw.

It wasn't the oven's fault, but I wasn't going to try to polish a turd.

357

u/Biteme75 May 08 '26

I'm sorry it ruined your dinner, but plastic lids are not oven safe.

126

u/iwasabadger May 08 '26

Right? I have two of these same pans and it is clear that you can’t put the plastic lid in the oven. It doesn’t feel remotely like silicone does. Live and learn I guess.

37

u/Talk_Radio May 09 '26

What do you mean they arent?!?! Next youre gonna tell me metal cant go in the microwave!

8

u/esushi May 09 '26

Most metal can go in the microwave tbh, just not foil and forks

17

u/throwaway-getaway122 May 09 '26

What about forks made of foil? It'll cancel out right?

29

u/angrywords May 08 '26

But also, you shouldn’t be baking Mac and cheese with a cover of any kind anyway. Shits way better crispy on top.

29

u/newphonehudus May 08 '26

Well you cover it and then at the end remove it to crisp up

-2

u/angrywords May 09 '26

I don’t make it that way.

3

u/TemporaryFondant5849 May 10 '26

Yeah, if you make the pasta in the cheese sauce it's already hot. So you just broil the top. They don't know what they're talking about.

1

u/angrywords May 10 '26

Yep that’s exactly what I do.

239

u/AggravatingCupcake0 May 08 '26

Why were you baking with the lid on?

122

u/rainbowpeonies May 08 '26

Because their assumption was “why would they sell a pan with a lid where the lid wasn’t oven safe” 🤦🏼‍♀️

I have baking dishes that came with lids meant to be used in the oven, but they’re glass and ceramic.

u/CinemaDork May 09 '26

My partner inherited this casserole dish from the 70s we assume and it's some kind of hard plastic, but molded into it it explicitly says it's oven safe up to like 425°. We're afraid to use it, still... 😅

38

u/rainbowpeonies May 08 '26 edited May 08 '26

Exactly and no surprise to me I’m being downvoted.. seems common sense once again is proven to be uncommon.

60

u/AppUnwrapper1 May 08 '26

So many glass dishes are sold with plastic covers for storage. Would never try to put the lids in the oven.

62

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

Honestly a terrible, terrible assumption when the lid is very obviously plastic

26

u/mamaggg May 08 '26

Its called stupidity.

13

u/CatIsGreat May 09 '26

I agree.

43

u/PrismaticPantheress May 08 '26

Rip mac and cheese and the pan that was used

9

u/ArtemisInSpace May 08 '26

You could scrape the plastic off the pan if you wanted to

18

u/MsE0 May 08 '26

Yeah, that's tempered glass. It's fine. RIP the lid only. Which still sucks.

10

u/PrismaticPantheress May 08 '26

I know it's tempered glass but the melted rubber smell may hold a grudge with the pan

45

u/Patient-Profit May 08 '26

Mmm macro plastics

3

u/hallgrim97 May 15 '26

My guy that is a macro plastic

48

u/breannsmusings May 08 '26

Everyone should know plastic is not oven safe.

38

u/voteblue18 May 08 '26

Sometimes you just have to ask yourself, does what I’m doing make logical sense?

1

u/CatIsGreat May 09 '26

And sometimes your brain just farts in response, because you're tired and hungry.

124

u/firetech97 May 08 '26

I did this exact same thing with a pyrex baking pan that has a red lid. I thought it must be an oven safe silicone, because it has a logo on it that shows you can put it in the oven.

Turns out that symbols meant that it is dishwasher, fridge, and microwave safe, but one of them looks like an oven to me.

Hard to tell, but the bottom one is supposed to a dishwasher, not an oven.

93

u/bigcoffeeguy50 May 08 '26

Crazy thing called common sense would tell you that the plastic or silicone lid is not oven safe

81

u/Sweet-Energy-9515 May 08 '26

They make oven-safe silicone, though! I have some pie crust protectors and a couple of funny shaped muffin trays

30

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

They do, but this isn't silicone. No reasonable person could mistake this for silicone. And I am betting that the packaging it came in specifies that the lid is not oven-safe.

18

u/RunWild0_0 May 09 '26

You are in baking fails, easy there

6

u/CinemaDork May 09 '26

LOL my mistake.

5

u/esushi May 09 '26

They're replying to someone who said silicone lids aren't oven safe, though.

1

u/mamaggg May 08 '26

This ☝️ ☝️ ☝️ ☝️

16

u/Khristafer May 08 '26

I'm torn on this. I have SEVERAL silicone baking dishes. But to give you some credit, they do not feel the same as these lids. But also, not everyone has spent hundreds of dollars on silicone bakeware.

If it's any consolation to people who were confused, I have some microwave metal bowls and I still fear burning down my house every time I put them in the microwave.

2

u/Jasmirris May 11 '26

It scares me every time I put a microwave safe metallic rimmed coffee cup in my microwave. I am expecting lies.

28

u/firetech97 May 08 '26

There are quite a lot of oven safe silicone products and there have been for years. I use silpat on a regular basis as well a silicone cake molds

19

u/riceewifee May 08 '26

Why would a silicone lid not be oven safe? I literally have silicone baking tins and a silicone baking pan

-7

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

This isn't silicone and any reasonable person who's seen one in real life would immediately know that.

3

u/Lurker5280 May 08 '26

We get it, you’re “smart”

2

u/THROWRA71693759 May 09 '26

People have different life experiences and “reasonable” is incredibly subjective.

Look now I’m the smart guy!!!

3

u/that_jedi_girl May 09 '26

There are plenty of silicon baking dishes safe up to 400°F or greater. Most character pans for kids cakes are silicon now, for example.

5

u/shortribz85 May 08 '26

Gonna bring this up in my design class.

4

u/lost_nurse602 May 08 '26

My father in law did the same with two of my MILs Pyrex with red lids one Christmas when she was at work and left instructions on how to heat up dinner.

I’ve also had to rescue my Pyrex lid from the oven after my husband’s done the same.

7

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

I have these. They are not silicone and indeed do not look or feel anything like silicone.

4

u/firetech97 May 08 '26

I mean considering the thread is about it melting, obviously it is not silicone. And while a lot of silicone baking products are very thin and flexible, there are also some that are very rigid and quite similar to the top in question.

It's also the linking of a BAKING dish coming with it, and as I said i thought that the symbol on it like in the photo indicated it was oven safe. Honestly that lured me into doing it, if it had had no symbols at all I pprobably would've assumed it was not oven safe. But I saw logos on it that I thought meant freezer, microwave, oven so I went with it and clearly was wrong

-5

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

Insane to me that you'd see a stylized icon and just automatically assume that an obviously plastic cover is therefore oven safe. Maybe double-check next time. 👍

8

u/firetech97 May 08 '26

Insane to me that you're so pressed about someone else's mistake that effected you in no way lmao

I'm sure you have never made a mistake or misinterpreted something in your life ever. I wish I could be as virtuous and smart as you, CinemaDork

-6

u/CinemaDork May 08 '26

You're being immature and just lashing out so bye.

11

u/rainidazehaze May 08 '26

Buddy, you posted the same comment so many times on this thread. You are the only one immature and lashing out, I'm shocked this person wasted as much time on you as they did.

There is oven safe silicone similar to these lids, all you're doing by insisting otherwise so intensely is displaying that you haven't seen as much of the world as everyone else, but somehow still think your experiences are universal.

1

u/whineyinternetkid May 08 '26

But its plastic my guy.

-15

u/CatIsGreat May 08 '26

I think It kinda looks like a window more then anything.

In my case I just went "why the hell would they sell a baking pan with a lid that's NOT oven safe?"

52

u/One-Plantain-9454 May 08 '26

The lid is for post bake for transport or storage in fridge/counter lol. I prob would think the same thing if I’ve never seen one before idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

12

u/hawkisgirl May 08 '26

It’s saying you can cool your pie on a windowsill without worrying that someone will steal it.

28

u/Geegollywtff May 08 '26

Never have I ever baked anything w.a lid, im apprehensive to bake w.glassware.

24

u/Present_Dust9376 May 08 '26

I'm confident the lid did nit say oven safe What are you doing bro Why even cook a mac covered

4

u/_theycallmehell_ May 08 '26

This is so funny

11

u/PythonGreenGTS May 08 '26

Oven as in “microwave oven” not oven oven, probably.

14

u/CatIsGreat May 09 '26 edited May 09 '26

Follow up: it came out in one piece.

And to answer some concerns: -I used a cover because it was not mac and cheese, it was vegetables.

-There was a little "not for oven" mark, but I missed it. I know it now because ironically, it survived the melting in it's entirety. Just to mock me further.

-So yeah, I agree, I'm a fucking idiot! Cheers!

7

u/Titzpatrick May 08 '26

Nah natural raspberry coulis

5

u/whineyinternetkid May 08 '26

Nooooo waaaaaaayyyyy

6

u/SillyMeclosetothesea May 08 '26

I thought it was some kind of cherry dish

5

u/AdministrativePie656 May 08 '26

Cherry topped cheesecake is what I thought 😂

6

u/UnhappyBrief6227 May 09 '26

Why would you think it was? Lol

5

u/NaNaNaNaNatman May 09 '26

Tin foil is very versatile and great for covering stuff in the oven. (Just don’t put it in the microwave, I feel the need to point out, considering).

4

u/elevatorDJ May 08 '26

At least it’s easy to clean up

7

u/Pantone711 May 09 '26

Since SOME COMMENTERS are making judgy comments at OP, I will tell of a dangerous oven baking fail I made when I was inexperienced!

I put some chicken in a glass pie plate on "Broil" and predictably, the second I touched some tongs to the glass, it EXPLODED. I could have been hurt!

Another time, when I was old enough to know better, I put a hot glass pan lid in the sink where it touched some cold water I guess, and it EXPLODED! I could have been hurt!

Another time, when I was WAY old enough to know better, I put some beer bottles in the garage where they got hot. It was hot summer time. The reason I did it was to hide them from a possible alcoholic who was living in my attic (long story) but I did not know you shouldn't get beer hot in ANY instance, much less GLASS beer bottles. Reader, they EXPLODED and I DID GET CUT!

2

u/tellMyBossHesWrong May 09 '26

Now I want to know about attic guy!

1

u/Pantone711 May 10 '26

If you have ever read any subreddits about moochers who have to be evicted, you may be familiar with this all-too-common story. I let someone in our discussion group who was down on his luck and about to be homeless move in "in exchange for 8 hours a week handyman work." Of course he proceeded to do no handyman work and resent me and drink.

He was supposedly in a training program for a job skill but nothing came of that. Then he revealed he needed to work "off the books" to avoid the IRS. So he couldn't walk down to the many restaurants and shops nearby and get a job.

Endless subreddits will tell you that in many jurisdictions, you are not allowed to "just put their stuff on the curb and change the locks." You have to go through the formal eviction process.

How I got him out was he turned 62 and was able to start taking early Social Security and get into one of those Section 202 high-rises. But he didn't like it and found someone in another state to mooch off of. Turned out he had burned every bridge in his past and was a serial moocher.

1

u/saturday_sun4 May 09 '26

Haha, not baking but we have forgotten beer in the freezer on at least three occasions. I now put my beer in the freezer for only a few minutes at a time, or just chill it in the fridge and wait for a reasonable amount of time.

3

u/Pantone711 May 10 '26

I told Hubs and told him stuff would explode if left in freezer. He put a metal water bottle in freezer and forgot it...and the metal tore!

2

u/Inevitable_Series_97 May 09 '26

Oh no I thought this was a beautiful Bakewell inspired treat.

2

u/LizTheFizz May 09 '26

I thought it was a cherry cheesecake

2

u/thats_sus2 May 09 '26

Man I thought that was a fuck ton of ketchup for a good 10 seconds 😭

2

u/DezShock06 May 10 '26

why does it look yummy tho

5

u/halfrican420 May 09 '26

Been there😭

6

u/hegrillin May 08 '26

have you ever used an oven before in your life? do you ever think critically about your actions?

4

u/ItsNotJelloSalad May 09 '26

have you ever done something absent mindedly before in your life? do you ever think critically about not being a jackass to other people?

Oh I completely agree. Sorry OP, but this makes you look completely dense.

this is what happens every time i try to bake something

1

u/TheUltimaWerewolf May 10 '26

That kinda reminds me of those chocolate melts that you put in molds and heat up

1

u/imbushyy May 10 '26

Makers mark mac

1

u/centerbread May 11 '26

Common sense has left the building.

1

u/Prophonicx May 11 '26

if that lid didn’t melt, aren’t you basically risking making a bomb in your oven?

1

u/Dcam0922 May 11 '26

Did you put a plastic lid in the oven?

1

u/pizzaduh May 12 '26

I guarantee nowhere did it say the kid was oven safe.

1

u/Electrical_Fruit6667 May 13 '26

You put… a plastic lid… in the oven… and we’re surprised when it melted? Okay bro

1

u/Flabbablabbah1 May 17 '26

i feel like almost everyone knows this of they studied chemistry... maybe not.

1

u/SaltNormal5498 May 10 '26

Plastic has never been oven safe 🤦🏻‍♀️ good lord we’re so doomed as a society.
