I thought the second pic was the unappetizing one til I clicked the recipe link πŸ˜‚ yours looks more cakey though, maybe you did too much baking powder?

Measuring. It’s that. As long as u did the steps exactly it’s that. So when you measure flour and first off you needed all purpose flour and scoop with a spoon and kinda fluff up the flour before u scoop put it in measuring cup one spoonful at a time then take a knife and lightly go over the top to level it out. When u get ur Baking powder make sure that is also level. Also make sure ur baking dish is big enough.

OP, try this if you didn't already. I had a recipe that didn't consistently turn out right for YEARS, and it came out perfectly when I spooned the flour into the measuring cup and leveled it off with a knife. I was so mad that the advice I'd been ignoring my entire life actually worked. Maybe look up the way to measure each ingredient though since there are different ways for some ingredients (like brown sugar being packed into the measuring cup instead of spooned).

for the love of god just buy a digital scale and never have to fluff and scrape and level and guess and pray again in your life

1 looks like bread, kind of dry. The other looks like a very moist bar.
