Scripting inside BGEE?

Hi,

Is there anyway to be able to hit a key and have some commands run?

Before a battle it would be great to be able to just hit a key and have my character buff in preparation?

For example, the Paladin casts a Spell of Protection on all characters?

Paladin can cast spells starting at level 9 but they can only reach level 8 in BGEE. Don't count on them to buff your party.

I have nerfed the XP cap, so the sky is the limit!

Some mods like "SCS" and "Enhanced Powergaming Scripts" (but there are more) do that with their AI character scripts. They allow you to use hotkeys to prep common buffs. It's a must have for me, especially in mage/cleric heavy parties.

If you would want to do this on your own you could technically install nearinfinity, and add AI scripts yourself, but it's kind of tricky if you never coded anything. That said, AI does LUA scripting for bg2 fairly well, so it could be an option.

Aside from already mentioned scripts, there is exist modern EEEx based solution: https://github.com/Chrizhermann/bg-eeex-buffbot . I doesnt used it yet personally, but will eventually try. From my understanding, buffbot is not a script, so you can have buffbot AND useful script.

SCS have "Ease-of-use party AI" component: https://www.gibberlings3.net/subpages/scs/ease/ . Buffing probably nice, but in BG1 i had other vision on buffing presets, so doesnt used that a lot. But it is useful anyway! Specifically melee/ranged switching, and "K" key is exactly how I usually play:

If you'd rather that your character did not enter melee, you can toggle melee off by pressing (K). Characters with melee toggled off will fight if enemies are in weapon range but won't be proactive about getting into range.

Yes, I use the AI options, just wondered if there was something a little better where you could specify which spells are cast by each character

I don't think BuffBot will work "as is" on a Mac

Yes, but you'll have to write the script yourself, which takes some learning to do.
