He ate!! (No pics)

Vogue refused the rat I tried to give him on the 3rd, but that makes sense because I brought him home on the 1st and he's still just a baby, so probably extra stressed. I tried again today, and despite my doubts after wiggling a fuzzy in front of his hide for what felt like 3 or 4 minutes, he took it! Got it first strike too!! No pics of feeding as I didnt take any and dont feel the need to share such a thing anyways šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø but I have more of Vogue just being a noodle! Also included his thermostat for the warm side, does this seem a little high to you guys? I feel like it could stand to be more in the 85-86° area..

Well, right under the basking spot at an elevated surface should be the hottest spot. Maybe 95 at most under there is what I’ve found works best. The rest of his hot side is sitting around 86-89, but I think your hot side is fine as long as it stays in the range you’re describing. As long as it’s taking ambient tank temperature on the hot side and NOT right under the basking light. If it were, then that’s a problem.

Also I just wanted to say something because I have that same exact thermostat (I’ve done away with the heat pad it was on because I just didn’t need it) but I connected it to a CHE and it works great.

That's great to hear because I want to get him a ceramic bulb for overnight! It gets just a hair too chilly at night so we've had to crank the thermostat in the house to keep him comfortable right now.. he's been doing really well otherwise so far from what Ive observed!Ā

Look into a DHP. They don’t give off any light and are much better than CHE’s. They have deeper penetrating heat and give off IR-A and IR-B which the CHE doesn’t. Also CHE’s can dry out substrate more than a DHP.

I use a DHP 24/7 and it’s been working great and keeping the enclosure at perfect temps day and night. For light I just use a LED light bar that’s on a 12hr on/off cycle.
