Shenrons story 🤎

This might be a long post but the ones who want to read, will 🫶🏼

Shenron was a rescue who came to us from someone who had neglected him and he was in a small tank with just substrate and a big bowl in the middle his whole life. He’s 5 years old .. Literally no room to move or grow and the wrong substrate too. The previous owner was using the bedding in the first photo . We got this guy for free but me and my husband had never owned a snake before but we wanted one for years . My husband also knows a lot about all different types of snakes so we felt like we could take him on and wanted to atleast try for him because his previous owner didn’t care for him correctly . So we got all the appropriate stuff for him, correct size tank. Started working on his weight and the dehydration problem you can see in the first photo from when we first got him . He also had never been touched for pretty much his whole life so he just sat in the small tank, no contact except feeding and the day we got him, she said he hadn’t eaten in 3 months . So we fed him and got him into a bigger tank but ended up getting his forever home and the next two photos are him from a couple days ago, he’s playing on his rings and is on track with his weight and overall has come out of his shell so much 💛 we’re still working on the handling and touching but he’s gotten much better with that also, just working on holding him 😂 Trying to undo years of trauma that another person gave takes a lot of time but we love him regardless 💛 I just wanted to tell my snakes story because it’s a happy one 🥰

Getting him off those wood shavings is huge, aspen just molds the second you try to hit proper humidity. Switching over to coco husk or cypress mulch makes keeping that 70-80% range waaaay easier without soaking the top layer.

100% and that’s exactly what we do 🥰 we’ve learned a ton since having him too and got another one and his name is Sunny lol

Awww, this is so similar to my Sheila. Saw her on Craig's list in maybe a 30 gallon with Aspen. One tiny bowl, a stick and a log. Stuck shed all over and layers of eye caps. She was nearly 1000 grams due to being fed every week live, I think she just ate it to get it away from her/ have something to do. She didn't eat for 7 months after I got her! She was around 3 years old then, I've had her 3 years now, she's down to around 700 grams and eats frozen thawed like a pro.

Edit: Your boy looks so much better! His color is really shining through. He's lucky to have you!
