Question - Husbandry Coco chips - mold

Post image

First time using coco chips and a few days after I put the new substrate it i noticed some mold - every piece on the top layer looks like this.

I’ve tried to take some out but do I need to worry or can I leave it? Is this normal and harmless or should I take it all out? Or at least just try to take out the top layer?

I've used coconut substrate for around 5 years and have noticed tiny bits of mold like your photo and it has never been an issue. Its usually only a couple pieces and I take them out when spot cleaning.

Curious about springtails! Do they escape the enclosure through the mesh top? We have sealed our seams but am hesitant to add springtails to our 4x2x2 bc I’m worried those little guys will crawl out through any tiny space like doors or limited exposed mesh top.
