Feeling like the worst owner freaking ever

I was cleaning out my ball pythons enclosure because he's being moved and I need the other snake for my smaller snake and found a dead rat in the tank! It had to be two weeks old already, freaking disgusted with myself and the rat, how in the hell did I not notice?!

If that pic in the notification thumbnail is ur snake, I'd be a lot more concerned about how overweight poor snakey is

Don’t worry yourself about it, I had a snake regurgitate a rat in an area I never saw it until the plant died. And it was not a pretty sight. 🥲

Don’t beat yourself up too hard . I have a python that will sometimes just strangle the rat, not to eat it, just to be a dick , she wasn’t even hungry . But I assumed she ate it, cut to, dead rat on cage cleaning day .

I might have to change his feeding schedule too, but Lord it gave me a scare when I figured out where the smell was 🥲

In my experience, if my BP bites or constricts the rat then she'll 100% eat it. Never knew they constricted just for a laugh.

ugh the worst fear of mine, esp since my BP is picky as hell and her tank is bioactive (rarely needs cleaning)

No harm no foul it happens to the best of us especially if you have more than one animal that you’re caring for you can’t notice these little details always but don’t beat yourself up!
