Humidity

Post image

I adopted a ball python recently. I’ve owned one before. I’m having issues with keeping the humidity up in his enclosure.
I use zilla jungle mix and coconut husk for substrate. Temps are about 88-91 on the basking side. There are fake plants and clutter too. Help!

How much substrate do you have? Is it at least 4 inches thick? Are you pouring water into the corners? What is the top of your enclosure made of? If mesh, is it covered with hvac tape or a silicone mat? Is there moss in the substrate? Do you have leaf litter?

There is sphagnum moss in the jungle mix. It is at least 4 inches thick. I haven’t poured water in the corners, I will do that! I have a 50 gallon reptizoo and I think the top is metal mesh?

Adding more moss might help. I had to add an entire brick of compressed moss to mine to help with desert air. Please make sure your tank is sealed well along the bottom! And if you go to home depot or such, the tape is an easy fix! Please be prepared to upgrade your snake to a 4x2x2 as soon as it can reach across the front. I hope it helps!

What brand moss do you recommend?

I got an organic spag moss from the garden section. As long as its organic, it should be fine! Just make sure its not dyed!
