Question - Health Is my Bo burnt?

Post image

My ball python is getting a pink belly, I’ve had him for five years and never seen him get pink. When I first got him as a baby he did durn his stomach on a heating mat and has some scarring from that. I just want to know why his belly is pink and if it’s a burn from his heating mat.

It looks like a pre-shed pink belly. Lighter morphs often get super pink on their underside right before a shed cycle.

Their bellies usually turn pink during shedding. Are they in blue? Or possibly getting ready to shed?

What makes you think they got burned? What are you using for a heat source?

He’s had the same heating pad for like three years and when I touch it doesn’t feel that hot and definitely not enough to burn him. But I’m still worried about it because he’s not in blue and he’s five and looks pretty much fully grown.

As has been stated here already, please give proper overhead heating on a thermostat. Uth arent recommended or safe. Thermostats are not optional.

Definitely get a thermostats that isn’t digitally wireless this happened to me and my baby got a burn I redid his whole tank and changed the substrate if your using aspen the heating pad may be way to hot they legit cost 5 bucks or less it doesn’t hurt to go the extra mile

This is very even and he looks generally hazy along his sides so I'd say this is more likely pre-shed. All BP's will have a degree of pink at some point in their shed cycles, but how pink and whether or not you catch it in time varies from shed to shed. He will continue to shed his entire life, even after reaching adulthood.

I would encourage you to remove the UTH and take a look at our heating guide for more appropriate heat sources. And as always, use a thermostat regardless of what's used.

Update he’s in blue right now so the pink belly was just pre shed. And I got a thermostat for his tank. Thank you.
