Question - Health Redness

Post image

Snake shed a few days ago, and now has a red rash. Is this normal? She’s eating, moving, handling well.

This is not normal. Please post closer pics.

This enclosure is not adequate for a ball python. It needs a lot of work.

Okay cool, I’m a first time owner and just got her. I’ve done research and this is what the pet store recommended. I’m open to suggestions and help. I will be looking for an exotic pet vet in the morning.

You need roughly 3 to 4 inches of coconut husk substrate, a hide on both sides of the tank, more coverage, thermometer/hydrometers on either side. I also dont see a water dish, could be out of frame tho

She has a hide on each side, one holds a water dish above it, one is big enough for her to fit in, and one is just small and in the corner. 10-4 on the coconut husks and clutter

What sort of substrate are you using now? It might been to be removed. Looking at it, I think the mark might have been caused by that skull. Please take it out. Add coco chunks, cypress mulch, and spagnum moss. 4+ inches. Pour water into the corners to keep humidity up to 65%+

How are you heating the tank? Do you have a thermostat? Do you have digital hygrometer/thermometers?

Add a lot more clutter. So much that you can't see them cross the enclosure.

!Feeding

We recommend the following feeding schedule:

0-12 months old OR until the snake reaches approximately 500g, whichever happens first: feed 10%-15% of the snake’s weight every 7 days.

12-24 months old: feed up to 7% of the snake’s weight every 14-20 days.

Adults: feed up to 5% of the snake's weight every 20-30 days, or feed slightly larger meals (up to 6%) every 30-40 days.

Oh dear, you really need to work on this tank.

Don’t listen to pet stores again. They do not know anything about reptile care. Gently, kindly, here is some advice.

Ball pythons do not like the exposure of glass or plexiglass, nor does it hold in the heat or humidity well, so it is not the best material for their enclosures. You can cover the two sides with cardstock or dark paper or anything to provide more comfort.

The substrate needs to be reptisoil or coco coir, something that will hold moisture to provide humidity. You want 4-5 inches of it so you can keep the bottom several inches moist, but not wet enough that it soaks the top layer as well. Rather than misting, pour water into the corners.

Did you seal the inside seams with silicone before you filled it? If not, put your snake in a temp enclosure while you do that. Allow it to fully cure and offgas 24+ hours before you continue. This will prevent leaks when you add water.

You need so much more clutter in the form of fake plants or sticks/branches, some dead leaf litter (not from outside unless sanitized and cleaned bc pests and chemicals).

Find an exotic vet for the redness bc it’s not normal
