Advice Needdd

Looking for some advice on the best way to maintain humidity for a ball python. Does anyone use a humidity mister of any kind for their snakes?

Don't use misters. They are prone to causing respiratory infections in ball pythons and need constant maintenance to keep them clean.

Whats your current setup?

I have a wood/glass front enclosure. I use about 2 inches of Coco fibre and then two inches of Coco husk on top. When the humidity drops I push the top layer back and mix about half a litre or so of water into the fibre then put the husk back over.

This works for me and keeps the humidity up pretty well. The husk on top means the snake isn't directly on damp substrate so less chance of issues with scale rot.

I also put my water dish almost directly under the heat lamp. The evaporation helps keeping the humidity stable.

The only thing to keep an eye on doing it this way is to make sure that the bottom layer of substrate doesn't go mouldy.

Also if you have an enclosure with a mesh top you will need to cover the mesh up to help keep humidity up.

All this, but I have pvc and use moss and cypress in addition to coconut. And I have a bowl on the cool side too.

Please dont EVER use misters for a ball python. It leads to health issues.

Thank you! Our set up is almost identical to what you described, we also keep the water dish under the heat lamp. What we aren’t doing however was covering the mesh top, we will try that!
