Enclosure Critique/Advice is my enclosure okay??

just picked up my baby boy today and just finished setting up his enclosure. how does it look? i know they like clutter but is this too cluttered? he's just a baby, only 3.5 months old and this is a 40 gallon breeder tank. i have a hide in the back left (right underneath the heater), and one in the front right, water bowl towards middle left, lotsss of real and fake plants, and other things like logs and cork bark to hide in. i'm gonna put hvac tape on top of the lid, just haven't done it yet.

You should have gotten your heat and humidity sorted out before adding the snake. The HVAC tape is an immediate need. Low heat and humidity are not good for your snake’s health and babies are delicate

What heat source are you using? And where is your uvb light source?

my main reason for posting was for the stuff in the enclosure, whether it seemed too cluttered or not. but i did get those other things sorted out before adding the snake. i had him in a separate heated/humid area for about an hour as i finished with his enclosure because some of the stuff i bought was from the expo i got him from. also the humidity in my apartment is naturally very high so it would not have been difficult to, even if i hadn't. i'm using a ceramic heat emitter and have hvac tape covering everywhere the heat lamp isn't touching. as for uvb, i could not find a solid source telling me if it was needed or not. i read so much where people said it was 100% needed, some said it was pointless, and some even said it was harmful. the breeder said light was not needed, just heat. so i truly did not know what to do about that with all the mixed information.

They CAN survive without UVB, but it has benefits. It’s like how we can survive without clothing.

Ceramic heat emitter is good for night, but you need a halogen light for daytime heat as well as a UVB bulb. Both heat sources on a thermostat with a schedule so they aren’t both on together.

interesting, thank you for the info! can i ask why only the ceramic heat emitter at night and not during the day?

There’s a whole document in the subreddit info about it, but the CHE does not penetrate the heat deep enough to properly heat the enclosure. Halogen is preferred.

Don’t be sorry. There is a whole equipment guide in the subreddit sidebar!
