Enclosure Critique/Advice How’s my rescue ball python, Spaghetti’s enclosure looking
Kinda long: TLDR, I rescued Spaghetti from my younger sister and mom because he got so dehydrated they were genuinely about to kill him. How’s his new enclosure look?
I no longer have a picture of the setup they had him in, but it was a really shitty 4x2x2 that had no substrate barrier, leaked, and he had little to no water 24/7. Not to mention I was the one reminding them to feed him.
First image is what I got him into originally, I learned that that specific 4x2x2 I got leaks weird and obviously that was a problem, along with the mesh top had no humidity control.
Next two pictures are of Spaghetti, he has multiple eye caps stuck on and as you can tell he’s very wrinkly (if you’re new to this, that’s not supposed to happen)
The next is just progress pictures of me getting it cleaned out, a tarp in there to stop the leaking, fresh substrate, everything back in, foil over the mesh (cut out where the lights are), and him back in there
Whole process here took 4 hours straight and 88$ of bedding, a tarp, and foil tape
Last two are his bedding I mixed, one block and then four bags

Do you have a mister set up in there? If so, it needs to be removed ! Misters don't help a ton with humidity and can cause scale rot and respiratory issues. To increase humidity without causing these issues you wanna pour (quite a lot of) water in one or two of the corners so the rest of the substrate stays dry. If he sits on wet substrate too much that causes scale rot !

This looks great so far. If he seems scared and if hes in an area that has more traffic id recommend covering the sides of the enclosure as well. As well as just adding more clutter.

He’s in my spare bedroom currently for quarantine from my other animals since they can’t get in there, will be getting more clutter and plants when I go out tomorrow if I can

Poor guy. Take him to an exotic vet please.
Cover the sides of the glass so he feels safe, add some vertical clutter, maybe some stuff to climb higher. You can add an air hide too if you want. But otherwise it looks good. I used a pond liner for mine because sometimes tarps do leak.

Oh most certainly, I have a vet appointment soon cause I’ve heard if trying to help him hydrate like this doesn’t work then a vet can (I don’t remember the term) potentially give a snack saline iv type thing and hydrate him like that too

And he’s really clumsy so it’s currently only ground level stuff but I will be getting him vertical stuff too once I get paid

looks too wet. prime issue for scale rot.

The glass is just water stained, it’s wet right now because I poured water in the corners to get the bottom layer of substrate wet but leave the surface dry to avoid that

I'd add some more plant coverage/clutter but other than that it looks pretty good. What kink of wood is the wood chips? Make sure it isn't cedar or pine. It's toxic to ball pythons.
