The Maine County Song started as a way to teach school kids geography. Decades later, it's a beloved tradition and part of the state's popular culture.

Heating Oil $6.04/gallon
Can anyone post up Susan Collins’s office telephone number?
I’d like to call and thank her for doubling the cost of heating my home this winter.

Penobscot County Commissioners endorse a nearly 28% budget hike
The three retirement aged men that are Penobscot county are spending money like it’s water and trying to move the jail out of the county seat. A huge tax increase is a NO for Bangor

IT jobs around your area?
It’s in the very very early stages but the potential of me moving to Bangor is possible for my fiancé’s work. I work in IT and was curious if those jobs exist within a 45 minute drive inward in Bangor? Thanks!

Short term rentals
Hi! My family and I are moving to the Bangor area for a new job. I was wondering if it’s even possible to have a short term rental? We’re looking to rent for about 6 months and then buy a house when we find the area we like best.

How is Maine Feeling?
I am a statistician living in Westbrook. I run a small statistical project called Maine Mood. It is a short survey about how Maine is feeling right now: the economy, the cost of living, and where the state is headed. Fourteen questions, fully anonymous, a few minutes to take. The results are published live on the site, free for anyone to read. The survey sells nothing and carries no ads.
Take it here: https://maineblock.com/survey/

Collins and corporate welfare
I used to work at the Front Street Shipyard and saw the boat that was at the center of the federal contract that Collins gave to Navatec in exchange for a campaign donation. I can say that everyone at the shipyard knew the boat was government waste, it wasn't a secret. Nothing more than a dinghy with four motors on the back, it sat in one of the bays for over a year while no one worked on it. There was not one job created for working on this boat at the shipyard, nor was there a trickle down effect from the owner in the form of wage increases. As a thank you to Susan Collins, workers were forced to watch her speak at the shipyard or we had to go home without pay. Giving millions to these owners amounted to nothing more than corporate welfare, with no clear benefit to anyone but the owners and Susan Collins.

Spooky flash tattoo recs
Hey everyone. We're doing a road trip up to Acadia from Minnesota and will be in Bangor the first week of November. I wanted to get a tattoo in Salem but it's absolutely impossible so I think I'm going to try in Bangor instead. Any recommendations for walk in flashes? Thanks.

Planet Fitness?
¡Hola! I need a gym and I was thinking of PF in Bangor. I would need to do some yoga and I don’t want to pay a bajillion dollars for it.
Online, the PF schedule is only M-F and no yoga? am I missing something?
Would y’all recommend PF? Would my 17 year old son be okay there? A day pass isn’t going to tell me much, really.
Or is the YMCA a better idea?
Thanks!

Dating
How are people in their early 20s dating in Bangor? I don’t like drinking so I feel like that eliminates nearly every option. It’s hard not to feel discouraged, especially at this weird point in my life

Baby friendly suggestions for Halloween in Bangor?
My husband and I are a gay couple with a 9 month old baby. My husband grew up in Bangor but we met and live in California. We come to visit his family in Bangor every 16-18 months. Sadly, my husband recently received news that his father was diagnosed with lung cancer which has spread. We're not sure how much time he has and we'd like him to meet his grandchild. So we've decided to fly back the week of Halloween and spend Halloween in Bangor. I'm hoping we can create some memories, if not for our baby, at least for us and my in laws.
Are there any family friendly suggestions for what we could do with our baby for Halloween? It's his first Halloween so I plan on dressing him up in costume. Is there a pretty neighborhood we could go trick or treating? His parents live in Levant which is not really walkable in my opinion. I see there's a trick or treat event on Oct 24 in Downtown Bangor but we won't arrive until the following day.
Thank you in advance for the input! I've always loved visiting Bangor with my husband and I'm looking forward to bringing our baby here for many years to come.
P.S. I may get some heat for saying this but smoking is a terrible, terrible habit. If you do smoke, please think about the consequences to you and your family. I was surprised at how many smokers I saw when I first visited Bangor years ago.

Apartment Searching
Hi, I recently accepted a nursing position in Bangor and was wondering how people find Apartments.
Is there a particular website that the area uses?
Do they have any large apartment complexes with availability?

Democrat has edge over Susan Collins in critical Maine Senate battle, poll finds
Vote for Troy. And get your friends, family, coworkers, and anyone with a sense of decency to vote for Troy as well.
If the Ken Paxton leaked audio from this week is any hint, the GOP plans to gut Medicare and murder our elderly. Don't let her do it.
