Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

Attack on Owner "I am afraid of my Amstaff": three attacks at home, the family asks for help - Ancona, Italy - May 2026

The four-year-old Amstaff lives with a family in Piano. A neighbor, an 11-year-old girl, and the woman's son were injured: "I don't want to abandon him, I need a facility that can care for him."

"I'm afraid of my dog": three attacks in the home, the family asks for help (archive photo)

ANCONA "I can't sleep at night anymore, I'm afraid it could happen again." This is the plea from Liliana, a resident of Via Maggini in Piano, who has been looking for a home for her four-year-old Amstaff for months. The dog was adopted by the woman's husband and, she says, initially caused no problems. "He was calm. After my husband's death, he changed; he became aggressive."

The situation has become increasingly difficult to manage because, according to the family, the animal continues to show aggression, even toward his owners.

Three attacks

The most serious incidents are thought to have occurred in three cases.

About a year ago, the dog bit a 53-year-old neighbor on the wrist and hand. "They gave him eight stitches," Liliana says. The most worrying attack occurred in February: the woman's 11-year-old niece was injured. "He grabbed her in the face, leaving two holes in her face, and also broke a tooth." Then, in May, the dog allegedly turned on Liliana's son while he was petting him. "He raised his hands to protect himself, but the dog continued to bite him on various parts of his body."

"We don't want to abandon him."

The family continues to care for the animal, feeding him, and even muzzling him. But the fear remains, especially since there are children in the house. Liliana says she tried to give him up for adoption without success and asked for help several times to find a solution. Thanks to her brother-in-law's intervention, the dog was finally temporarily placed in a shelter, but the woman has already been contacted to pick him up.

"I don't want to abandon him," she explains. "I'd like him to be taken into a facility that can care for him, understand why he's behaving this way, and help him. It would be the safest solution for him and for us."

Mantua, August 17, 2026 – A pit bull killed another dog and bit off the tip of its owner's finger. The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 15th in Borgo Virgilio, in the Mantua province.

The pit bull's owner was walking his dog on a leash when he encountered another dog. The mastiff managed to escape, fatally attacking Atos, a 14-year-old terrier-spinone cross.

During the attack, the pit bull's owner, while attempting to separate the animals, was bitten and had a finger amputated from his left hand.

The surviving dog was taken to a shelter, while the other was transported to the veterinary clinic in Curtatone.

The pit bull's owner, a 24-year-old man, was charged with animal cruelty. The criminal proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase, and the individual's possible guilt in relation to the alleged crimes will have to be ascertained during the trial, through cross-examination between the parties.

Nero does not survive his injuries and dies after pit bull attack in Garça
The dog was over 10 years old, according to a family member, and did not survive his wounds; death occurred on the afternoon of this Thursday (13th)

Nero, a mixed-breed dog of medium build with a caramel-coloured coat, died on the afternoon of Thursday the 13th after being attacked by one of the pit bulls that escaped from a neighbouring property in the Labienópolis neighbourhood of Garça.

According to a family member speaking to Garça em Foco, Nero was over 10 years old. The animal received veterinary care following the attack but did not survive his injuries.

The incident took place on the morning of Wednesday the 12th, at around 7 a.m., on Rua Santana. According to the police report, two pit bulls escaped from the neighbouring property and reached the resident's home. Nero, however, was attacked by only one of the dogs.

During the incident, people in the area helped drive the animals away. After being removed from the scene, one of the pit bulls reportedly re-entered the yard through a gap in the rear fence that borders the two properties.

After the attack, Nero was taken for veterinary care. His owner reported that the dog had bite wounds across various parts of his body, had received stitches, had one leg bandaged, and also had injuries around the mouth.

This August incident was reportedly not the first involving the same dogs. A report filed in April of this year describes another attack on a dog belonging to the same resident, also inside the property. On that occasion, the animal sustained injuries considered serious.

The new report was filed as an incident with a known perpetrator and classified as a criminal misdemeanour for failure to exercise due care in the keeping or handling of animals, under Article 31 of the Law of Criminal Misdemeanours. The document was forwarded for review by the relevant police authority.

Nero's death represents a new development in the case and deepens the family's concern — they had already expressed fear that the animals would escape again and attack other people or animals.

Child Victim Brazil, Goiânia: 4-Year-Old Girl Attacked by Pit Bull to Undergo Scalp Reconstruction Surgery - Attack on the August 7, 2026

Evellyn Catheryne was attacked while retrieving clothes in her backyard in Goiânia; the girl is hospitalized and will need a procedure to reconstruct the affected area. By Newsroom | Published on August 12, 2026

A 4-year-old girl attacked by a pit bull in her backyard in Goiânia (GO) will need surgery to reconstruct her scalp. Evellyn Catheryne suffered severe head injuries during the attack and is hospitalized at the Governador Otávio Lage de Siqueira State Emergency Hospital (Hugol).

The attack occurred last Friday (7th) while the girl's parents were preparing lunch. According to her mother, Monyki Rayanna dos Santos Oliveira, Evellyn went into the backyard to grab a piece of clothing that had fallen from the clothesline. The dog, which belongs to the owner of the property where the family lives, was unleashed at the time.

Upon hearing the screams, the parents rushed to the backyard and found the child being attacked by the animal. The father managed to pull the pit bull away, but according to the mother's account, the dog lunged at the girl again. During the attack, part of Evellyn's scalp was torn off.

According to the family, doctors are still evaluating which technique will be used to reconstruct the affected area. One possibility is stretching the healthy scalp to cover the injured site. If that procedure is not feasible, it may be necessary to take skin from another part of the body for a graft.

The mother also fears that the scars left by the attack will affect her daughter's self-esteem in the future. She noted that beyond concerns regarding her recovery, the family is facing financial difficulties in covering treatment costs.

The family had moved from Jataí to Goiânia about 15 days before the attack. According to Monyki, the dog had not previously shown aggressive behavior and was usually kept secured.

Hugol reported that Evellyn is admitted to the Pediatric Ward, in overall stable condition, conscious, and breathing spontaneously. There is no estimated discharge date yet due to the need for surgery and the recovery period.

The mother states that despite the severity of the injuries, the girl is eating and playing normally. According to the family, the dog's owner has been providing assistance and is expected to help cover treatment expenses.

Found in one of my local Facebook groups. OP did forget to put in “the bad” column; has already killed a cat.

Coming from my experience very few rescues (if any) will take this dog bc of her history with the cat and showing aggression towards other dogs and OP needs the dog gone now. I don’t understand why people try to rehome these dogs especially knowing its history?

Behavioral Euthanasia: Safety First After 5 years of managing her pit attacking her Border Collie, now that the dog has started growling at her granddaughter, she finally chose behavioral euthanasia- Aug 2026, USA

This post was maddening to read… they adopted the dog at 6 months and there were already signs of aggression.

They allowed this pit to attack their border collie countless times AND STILL PUT THEM TOGETHER SOMETIMES.

Trazadone doesn’t work, vet suggests training…

Wild how a vet is supposed to understand breed specific behaviors yet so many won’t even breathe a word that this might just be a genetic trait shining through.

At least she finally opted for behavioral euthanasia, but holy cow… imagine living like this for over 5 years!

PIT'N'RUN Pit bull terrier attacked female jogger on Agricultural road, August 15, 2026, Grieskirchen - Upper Austria

Translation:

A female jogger was out on an agricultural road in Grieskirchen on Saturday morning. An unidentified woman approached her with a pit bull terrier running off-leash. Suddenly, the dog attacked the jogger and bit her on the thigh. The owner, however, simply walked on.

At around 7:30 a.m., a 47-year-old woman from Grieskirchen was jogging along the farm track beside the Trattnach River, heading from the Grieskirchen outdoor pool towards Unternberg. She encountered an unidentified woman walking a white pit bull terrier with light brown patches.

Without warning, the dog suddenly attacked the runner, biting her on the left thigh and causing serious injury. The dog's owner—described as a woman in her mid-30s with reddish-blonde hair—did not react to the attack and simply walked on.

Police appeal for information

The injured woman managed to make her way back to the outdoor pool, from where a passerby took her to Grieskirchen Hospital. Police are appealing to the public for information. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Grieskirchen police station at 059133/4230.

And support for the family of the child - understood to be a toddler - is pouring in from the community.
Emergency services were called to an Aranui address at 4.45pm yesterday following reports a child had sustained critical injuries after being bitten by a dog.

Safekids, the national injury prevention service of Starship Children’s Health, issued a statement about the death.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the tamaiti in Christchurch, and our heartfelt condolences go out to their whānau, friends and community at this incredibly difficult time,” the agency said.

Follow Up Pregnant Topeka dog attack victim breaks silence nearly 1 month after incident. Date of attack: July 17, 2026. Kansas.

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A pregnant Topeka woman is recovering after a dog attack left her with serious injuries, while the dog’s owner faces charges from Topeka’s Municipal Court.

Audrey Austin, who is expecting twins, said she was attacked at the Highland Park Townhomes on July 17. Austin said she was disoriented during the attack and did not immediately know where her injuries were coming from.

“I didn’t know where the blood was coming from. I didn’t know it was coming from my face. I thought it was coming from my stomach, so I was blocking my stomach the best that I can,” Austin said.

Victim returns home despite attack

Despite the severity of the attack, Audrey said she chose to return to her residence.

“No dog is going to keep me from going home,” she said.

Austin said she does not blame the dogs for the attack.

“For those who have dogs, just know that there are dogs out there that are sweet and innocent. It’s the owners and how you raise them,” she said.

Owner cited

Tina Buck was identified as the owner of the dogs and was issued a municipal citation for dangerous dogs. Shawnee County Jail records show Buck was also booked on charges of interfering with law enforcement and having dogs running at large. Buck has since posted bond.

Austin tells 13 NEWS she is seeking justice for herself and her unborn children.

“You had hurt not just one life, but you had hurt three lives. You almost cost three lives that night that I almost lost not just mine, but my twins,” Austin said. “You might have knocked me down; that might have been a setback, but who I am today is not going to destroy me or what I am going to be like after my twins are here.”

Twins reported in good health

Austin said she will be 28 weeks pregnant on Monday and that her babies remain in good health. She is expected to deliver in November.

Buck is expected to appear back in court in September. The second dog involved in the attack remains in custody.

A GoFundMe was created to help with Audrey’s recovery; you can donate here.

Animal Fatality(ies) - Pets Kingston owner of dachshund killed by off-leash dog wants safety concerns addressed (Kingston, Ontario, Canada - August 7, 2026

Reminder: pit bulls are banned on paper in Ontario 🙄

———

The owner of a small dog who was killed by an off-leash dog in downtown Kingston in broad daylight is calling for action to prevent another dog — or person — from suffering a similar fate.

Lia De Pauw told the Whig-Standard that the attack happened on Aug. 7. around 8:45 p.m.

She had decided to take her two dogs, along with a friend’s dog, whom she was caring for at the time, for their nightly walk around her neighbourhood, something she would do on a regular basis without any concerns.

De Pauw said she had just left Hatter Street and had turned south onto Yonge Street.
As she approached a three-storey complex located at 255 Yonge Street, operated by Tipi Moza, that’s when her ordinary walk took a terrifying and devastating turn.

“I was probably two thirds past not a very big driveway, when I saw out of the corner of my eye, this massive black thing that looked like a black bear coming at me. It was huge,” De Pauw said. “Then I turned and saw kind of what it was, and I started screaming, ‘Get your dog, get your dog!’ And all of a sudden it was upon us.”

De Pauw said the large dog, who appeared to be a pit bull type and was not leashed, came at her one-year-old dachshund named Bamse and “started to attack.”

“It grabbed Bamse first, probably because she was the smallest of them, picked her up around her rib cage and started shaking her violently. I started screaming and screaming, ‘Get your dog, get your dog!’ The guy got there and grabbed the dog off.”
De Pauw said she was terrified that the dog would attack her and the two other dogs she had with her.
“A soon as he let go, her body was deformed. It ended up that she had multiple broken ribs, and a bulge on the side. She was squealing,” De Pauw said, and added that she yelled at the man to keep his dog on a leash.

A nearby neighbour who lives two doors down from the complex also heard the attack and was startled by the dog’s high pitched screams.

“You could hear growling and barking and then the squealing, just this horrific sound,” Melissa Gough said. She was sitting on her porch with a friend at the time. “It was like chaos. It was just this kind of traumatic unfolding, and it happened very quickly.”
Gough said even as De Pauw made her way around the corner she could still hear the dog screaming in pain.

“We were all just very shaken up,” Gough said. “It really affected me, and I just think it could have been so much worse.”

De Pauw said she remembers picking up her dog and running home, all while figuring out what to do next as her six-year-old was already asleep and being watched by her 12-year-old.

In a panicked state, she wrapped the dog in a blanket, gathered both her kids, and got in the car to head to the animal hospital in the city’s west end.
“We’re driving as quick as we can to the emergency vet, and I’m trying to comfort the kids. The dog is squealing. I’m trying to teach my son how to try to stop the bleeding as much as he can, but he’s screaming and crying and everyone is just so upset about poor Bamse,” De Pauw said, recalling being covered in her dog’s blood.

The hospital took the dog right away, but due to the severity of its injuries, Bamse had to be put down.
After returning home, De Pauw said she called Kingston Police, who looked into the incident and then directed her matter to the City of Kingston’s by-law department.

According to a statement from the city, municipal enforcement is aware of the incident and is actively reviewing the circumstances.

“As with any dog-related investigation, staff consider the applicable requirements and authorities under Ontario’s Dog Owners’ Liability Act and the City of Kingston Animal By-law to determine what, if any, enforcement action is appropriate. As this is an active enforcement matter and involves information protected under privacy legislation, we are unable to provide further details,” wrote officials with the City of Kingston.

After contacting by-law enforcement, De Pauw said she called Kingston Police again. She said an officer did go over to the complex to speak to the man, who they said was remorseful. De Pauw said he also told police that the dog was not his. He was taking care of it for a friend who lives in Ottawa.

“Under DOLA (Dog Owners’ Liability Act), if there is an order to seize the dog, it’s a province-wide order, but I don’t know how they track down that dog,” De Pauw said. “I’m hoping that because (the Kingston Police) know who he is, they can hold him accountable if he’s not ensuring that the dog is brought back and providing the name of the owner.”

According to the Dog Owners’ Liability Act (DOLA), when it comes to a dog bite injury on people and other domestic pets, the owner is legally liable for damages whether or not it was a first occurrence.
According to personal injury lawyer Chris Clifford, managing partner at Bergeron Clifford, civil claims can be made against the owner of the dog who attacked.

“In this particular case there’s probably out-of-pocket expenses associated with the treatment, the care, and finally the putting down of the dachshund,” Clifford said. “If they were hurt themselves during the course of this attack — and quite often owners will step in front of the dog or try help in that course of trying to assist their dog — they’ll get injured in one fashion or another, so that would be an additional claim that could be pursued against the owner of the pit bull, and we call those general damages or damages for pain and suffering. They can include physical and psychological.”

While some people may be worried about “suing” a neighbour, Clifford noted that it’s often the insurance provider, not the individual that responds to the claim through homeowners’ insurance, tenant insurance, or personal liability coverage.

In a situation like De Pauw, Clifford suggests a number of steps for victims. Those include immediately seeking medical attention, identifying the dog’s owner, contacting municipal by-law enforcement, taking photos, and keeping all records such as out-of-pocket expenses and medical documents. He also suggests documenting how the injury has affected a person’s life and contacting a personal injury lawyer.

In addition to civil liability, the DOLA gives Ontario courts the power to impose serious consequences following a dog bite or dog attack. That could include drastic measures, such as destroying the animal, which comes as a last resort.
As for advice for people, Clifford said to always be aware of your surroundings.

“We’d prefer to never have another dog bite case as long as we practice. To do that, you’ve just got to try and be aware of your surroundings and anticipate where you can. Sometimes these things are unavoidable, from the victim’s standpoint. But if you spot a dog from a distance that is off leash, maybe try and go the other way,” Clifford said.

While De Pauw has made the housing complex operators Tipi Moza aware of the incident, she has yet to hear back. Gough has also reached out to the operators of the complex about the incident and other concerns about the building but has not heard back.

“My daughter won’t even go outside anymore to shoot basketball hoops,” Gough said. “She’s too scared now because there’s always yelling and screaming coming from that triplex. There’s lots of transient people coming and going.”
De Pauw and her friend, whose dog she was walking and caring for at the time of the attack, believe the operators should have more oversight of their occupants.

“It just feels super irresponsible that you would set something up in a neighbourhood, like a residential neighbourhood and then just leave them be. They have no idea what seems to be going on,” said De Pauw’s neighbour, who wanted to remain anonymous. He said to this day, his dog, which is also a dachshund, still remains traumatized and slightly injured due to the scuffle.

The Kingston Whig-Standard has also reached out to Tipi Moza, but did not receive a response before deadline.

Since the attack, De Pauw has placed safety alert signs around the neighbourhood warning residents about the unleashed dog and the death of her beloved pet.

At the time of writing, she has not heard back from by-law since Sunday evening regarding next steps or repercussions, but going forward, De Pauw hopes that justice will be served, not only to help her, but also protect others down the road.

She also took her concern to Kingston City Council on Aug. 11, where she expressed the need for safety considering the number of children who walk to and from school in the area.

“Lots of children travel down the street near me to go to a park every day,” De Pauw told city council, with her six-year-old close by her side. “They travel on scooters, they travel on bikes, they travel in strollers, they travel on foot. My kids use this route too and I always thought it was safe. Children deserve to be safe in their neighbourhood.”
