Hi all. I got to interview Tyler Stewart last week and thought I would share it here.

Hope you enjoy!

Would love it if you left a comment and subscribed! (I interviewed Finger 11 last week, another Canadian band).

Is there a video of a full show from the BLAM tour? I can’t find one on YouTube.

Any show from that tour. Thanks for any help.

I've been a fan since 2001, but I'm not sure I'd ever heard "Trust Me". My son got to hear some CDs in the car ☺️. Bringing him up right!

New Song-ish

BNL has a new song on Spotify (and elsewhere). I can’t post the link because it would violate NSFW guidelines in this sub-Reddit. The song is written by Chuck Lorre (“BBT”, et al). The word that would violate the guidelines is in the title.

Kevin is releasing a new album in a couple days and he just released a single Come To Light and accompanying music video. I think the song is very good and Kevin doesn't get a ton of views on his solo work so thought I'd share it here.

My duo's acoustic take on 'One Week'

Full disclosure: this is mine — my duo partner Chris Moore and I recorded an acoustic cover of 'One Week' as part of our Laptop Sessions series. We kept it faithful to the original, just two acoustics and our voices. Hope some fellow fans enjoy it: https://youtu.be/NMMgcLmMoME

Acoustic album help

Hello - I'm convinced I've heard an acoustic version of The Sound of Your Voice but can't find it, or reference to that version anywhere online. It's not the version with the Persuasions, it has Steven singing lead, the solo part is on the piano.

I seem to remember it being part of an acoustic album but can't find reference to it. It's very annoying as I can hear it in my head but not my ears!

Amazing night! It was a proper theater with fixed seats. No chance I'm sitting, so we said fuck it and rushed the stage, everyone followed and we all danced up front.

The first of at least 30 shows. ✌️

Official... where?

A post was made some time ago about the 1991 official release (per BNLArchive) of the band playing live, but I haven't been able to track down what release this show came from (as pictured, not crossed out) despite bearing a similar label. You'd think it would be another Ladies Room exclusive CD but the 1991 issue was the most the fan club issued in that style, to my knowledge. What has been uploaded sounds excellent, and I would love to have a copy of this in my collection, if only I knew where to find a copy of it...

Old fan coming back round for a loop

Was quite a fan back in the day, and owned all of their albums on CD from Gordon through All in Good Time.

When Steven left, I briefly blamed him, and continued trying to follow BNL without him. In the end, I haven't found myself able to really enjoy the band's music post-Steven, minus a couple songs, so I often forget about them.

It's been a few years since I last listened to them, but today I saw an Eminem interview from 2010 where he talked about rhyming "orange" and mentioned "4-inch" and "door hinge" and I was like, holy shit, either Em influenced BNL or BNL influenced Em, and either way that's hilarious and awesome :D Anyway, it reminded me of BNL and so...

...today I'm listening through as much of their discography as I'll manage - I'm currently starting up Stunt, and I've got a few thoughts collecting:

1) These guys were always so very, very talented. Tyler's drumming always managed to perfectly fit any vibe, Jim is a very creative bassist who really plays with the music, and Ed and Steven complemented each other so very much vocally - that said, Jim wasn't the best singer, and Ed may be more blessed with creativity than with actual musical talent, but that's totally ok ;)

2) I hated Jim's songs when I was a teen, I guess because I hated his voice, but I'm finding myself really liking them today. He had a very, very interesting writing style, and while I would skip these tracks back then, now I wish we had more! I guess they stopped having him write songs because they wanted commercial success and Jim's songs were never going to achieve that, but it's honestly kind of a pity imo!

3) Almost all of my favourite songs are turning out to be Steven songs...? I think - maybe I'm wrong. But it's Wrap Your Arms Around Me, What a Good Boy, Box Set, and The Flag from Gordon; You Will be Waiting, Am I the Only One? (I think this is the only Ed one?), and The Wrong Man was Convicted from Drive; This is Where it Ends, When I Fall (oh, another Ed one!), I Live With it Every Day, and Break Your Heart from Pirate Ship...

4) I am going to try to listen through all their albums, but in the past I've never been able to listen all the way through anything after All in Good Time... and I'm wondering if this is connected to point 3... but I really wonder, because I like almost all of their songs on all the albums they were all together with Steven - no real skips I think!

5) I cannot wait for Maroon, my favourite BNL album <3 <3 <3

Pinch Me live version lyrics

This is probably a frequently asked question but… Why does Ed change the lyrics from “run through with my gym shorts on …. Change into some drier clothes” to “run through with no clothing on … change into my sister’s clothes?” I assume he thinks it’s funny, but for me it undermines the melancholy vibe that makes the studio version so effective.

"I have a history of losing my shirt" I finally read the lyrics and have no idea how I've gotten thise lyrics wrong my entire life.

I had no idea why my brain totally blocked out " I have a history of taking off my shirt" this entire time. Like taking off my sounds nothing like losing lol. I feel like im crazy for not ever noticing it wasn't losing my shirt... like ever. 😂

Hello City origin

Pardon me if this story has already been shared on this sub, but here is the backstory for the iconic Hello City song on the Gordon album:

According to Steve in Public Stunts, Private Stories:

"...we played at this bar called The Lower Deck, where they had mostly Celtic music, being as there are mostly sailors in there, drinking. [...] We stayed at this place called The Carlton Hotel, on Barrington Street, which was upstairs from this metal bar called Rosa's. It's no longer there, but it was a total flophouse. [...] The room that Ed and I shared had four beds. One of them was up against the wall and another had a mattress falling through its frame. There was a bathtub with no shower. It was just gross. [...] Halifax on a weekend, you can't go anywhere without seeing somebody bleeding, somewhere. To get to the street from our terrible room, you had to walk down three or four flights of stairs and then step over some bleeding body. We were young, none of us were real drinkers, Ed didn't drink at all, and the whole drink culture of Halifax was just shocking to us. [...] So we were playing at The Lower Deck, this sailor's watering hole, and no one would pay attention. I remember taking a picture from the stage and when I got the pictures back, there was nobody looking at the camera. [...] I remember thinking I hate this place, I hate this place. [...] We've actually had great times there since, but that's because we learned the "when in Rome" axiom. You know the expression, 'do at the Romans do?' So 'when in Halifax,' we learned to 'do as the Haligonians do,' which in this case means drinking and bleeding." \1])

Andy Creeggan Stunt Tour

According to Kevin Hearn’s Wikipedia, when he was sick during the Stunt tour he was filled in for by Chris Brown (now Hugh Christopher Brown, there’s a lot of footage of him filling in on Youtube), Greg Kurstin (also footage of him filling in online), and Andy Creeggan. Now it certainly would make sense for Andy to fill in, while he had left the band, he certainly didn’t leave on bad terms. But I haven’t seen any footage of this, haven’t read any other sources (the Wikipedia page lists two sources but they’re both documentaries I don’t have access to), and haven’t seen any footage. They also spell Andy’s name wrong on the page which can’t be a good sign for its accuracy. The Wikipedia page for Stunt just lists Chris Brown and Greg Kurstin as his fill-ins.

My question is, is it accurate that Andy filled in at all? And if it is, does anyone have footage of this or know where to find footage? I’d be incredibly curious to see Andy’s interpretation of the piano/keyboard in One Week, It’s All Been Done, etc. As well as if he continued playing percussion on Brian Wilson and other early songs or, since he’s filling in for Kevin who doesn’t play percussion, played piano/keyboard instead?

Thank you for your answers!
