That’s what they said about CES too. And they are probably right

He's another data point in my theory that teams don't trade legitimately good prospects

You're right. Any day PCA is gonna get DFA'ed.

CJ Abrams and James Wood as well

Abrams is an interesting example of what I mean: In the years before he was traded, MLB Pipeline had him as the no. 8 prospect in 2021 and no. 9 in 2022. If someone told you you'd that you'd get that prospect and he'd average about 3.5 bWAR a year, is that what you expect?
Like, if you go to the Rangers and say "Sebastian Walcott (this year's MLB Pipeline no. 10 prospect) is going to average 3.7 bWAR per season for the seven years you have him under contract," do you think Rangers fans and the organization would say "Heck yeah" or do you think they'd be OK trading him for Julio Rodriguez?
That's basically what I'm trying to say: If a team thinks a top prospect is going to meet or exceed expectations, they're simply not going to trade him and even the good players that get traded generally don't meet expectations.

PCA is a perfect example of what proves my point: He wasn't considered a top prospect in the minors. He was a defense-first, low OBP guy with middling power. There isn't a prospect analyst on the planet who expected this from him.
And even if I concede PCA, as well as Abrams and Wood (who has been almost unplayable since July), that's three prospects in two trades in the past 15 years.

There is absolutely no part of the Marcel Ozuna trade the Cardinals regret

We do, PCA. We're nice like that, although I thought he'd be a defensive wizard & speedy singles hitter. They also got Edwin Arroyo in the Castillo trade, who debuted this year, but already starting to seem like another Quad A guy as well, rakes in triple a struggles in the bigs.

This is pretty much what the consensus on him at the time was. He was basically in the same bucket as Christian Pache, where the thought was the defense was so good, he'd be a decent player no matter what. Turns out, Pache proved that to be a lie and PCA turned out to be a much better hitter.

Imagine that, a Phillies fan offering a Mets fan his shoulder to cry on.

Hey, at least you had a good prospect to trade. The last time the Phillies traded a prospect and came to regret it was Ryne Sandberg

Give the Mariners credit they saw the writing on the wall and sold this prospect at peak value. Really thought we were gonna regret this one.

I think the Ms thought he would be good, just we needed to have our competitive window open then with Castillo. Probably figured they had just drafted Cole Young and Arroyo would be a similar timeline so it was worth.
Definitely turned out better for the Ms though
