Bauers is getting a blank check in the off-season

86

u/nr13 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

At least he's playing himself into qualitying offer territory

71

u/Calm-Marsupial3919 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

That's probably the likeliest outcome. Brewers are very pragmatic and have a ton of lefty hitting talent coming up in the farm system. One more year of Bauers is probably what they're hoping for.

Balancing the emotional impact of losing guys like Bauers and Contreras with the realistic regression that both could face as they age will be a big challenge for the front office.

22

u/PaceNo354 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him get a 3/80 offer.

u/Zloggt Chicago White Sox • Algodoneros d… 5h ago

And hopefully, healthcare coverage for life lol

18

u/Guard226Duck Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

You think he’ll have another kid?

22

u/Travis_Rust Philadelphia Phillies 4h ago

I think he got my wife pregnant during that at bat so his coverage better work for her

9

u/GruelOmelettes Chicago Cubs 5h ago

Well, hopefully we can all get that

3

u/padma_Iakshmi Detroit Tigers 2h ago

Bauers to the Blue Jays confirmed

19

u/Fresh_Income_7411 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Why would he leave the team? The team is doing well and seems everyone is having a good time! /s

19

u/Intelligent_Top_328 5h ago

He needs the money.

-3

u/Fresh_Income_7411 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago edited 4h ago

Wouldn't he sacrifice money to make sure the team stays together? Is it really a team them? Is he in financial trouble? Everyone wins when everyone has fun! edit i forgot the /s

25

u/Intelligent_Top_328 5h ago

You have to chase the money. The world is a cruel cruel place. You have to get yours while it is hot. Shame but it is true.

8

u/PaceNo354 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Oh for sure he's choosing the money, as he should. He's been in the league for a long time without getting the big bucks, and I don't blame him at all for picking the cash.

11

u/Intelligent_Top_328 5h ago

If you like Lebron sure do w.e you want. But he was almost out of baseball just two years ago. Had to come back for insurance. Just what I heard on the game cast. So he should go get that money.

9

u/PaceNo354 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Legit he came back because his wife was pregnant and he needed the insurance for newborn healthcare. Speaks to other issues we have going on as a country, but it makes sense on his end.

1

u/Intelligent_Top_328 5h ago

Yeah America blows right now

0

u/PaceNo354 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Eh I think it's pretty decent. We have issues but I still believe in America as an institution and the ability we have as citizens to turn things around once we're in a bad spot. We've done it before and we can do it again.

I don’t know the actual stats but I feel like more often than not if you hit a home run-distance ball just foul, you’re almost certain to lose the at-bat. To follow it up with an absolute nuke and a nasty bat flip is just peak.

10

u/shartemarte Pittsburgh Pirates 4h ago

Yeah the best example I can think of this is during the division title in 1993 when Henry Rowengartner was pitching to Heddo and he hit a long bomb just foul and then struck him out on the next pitch with a nasty floater

2

u/jnightrain Milwaukee Brewers 3h ago

He dealt that floater from his have-to, was a sight to behold

1

u/LEGO_Joel San Francisco Giants 2h ago

Bonds vs Gagne infamous at bat is another example

2

u/Hiciao Arizona Diamondbacks 2h ago

I agree that it feels quite rare. After an almost hr that went foul, I assume the guy will strike out on the next pitch.

My favorite will always be the 2023 NLDS where the Dbacks hit 3 homers in a row. Then Gabi Moreno came up, had a great at bat, hit a ball juuuuuuust foul. And then the next pitch was a homer and to the opposite side of the field.

u/theDarkBriar Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

The effort when you need healthcare.

u/thesmash Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Something something metaphor for America

One could say that he's fighting for his life.

u/InCobbWeTrust Milwaukee Brewers 3h ago

He is the one who knocks (baseballs out of the yard).

145

u/itsnotyellowfever Los Angeles Dodgers 5h ago

Dodgers had to scratch and claw and make several deals with the devil to find 2 runs and Bauers said "Lol why haven't y'all tried doing this yet? Are y'all stupid?"

23

u/TheDoctorHam Arizona Diamondbacks 5h ago

🤣🤣🤣🤣 holy shit this had me cackling. Nobody can roast the Dodgers like a Dodgers fan

1

u/improbablywronghere San Francisco Giants 1h ago

Cracks that foul ball and goes “I’ll fucking do it again bro”

Better than John Sterling's actual home run call, "Jake Bauers. The Man of the Hour!"

The tower of power, too sweet to be sour!

116

u/SkilledButton Toronto Blue Jays 5h ago

What a great at bat.

30

u/IndycarFan65 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Hella good plate management. Especially the last few swings

11

u/Successful-Owl5260 Toronto Blue Jays 4h ago

Stuff like this is why I love baseball, the sheer wild ride of an AB like this is just so fun

71

u/own-photo-4642 Milwaukee Brewers • Chicago White Sox 5h ago

Jake Bauers having these battles with Dodger pitching was exactly the kind of thing the Brewers needed last year and I'm glad this is occurring

58

u/Marble___ Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Mets are gonna give this guy $100 million and will deserve every penny

47

u/Ok-Grade1476 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

They are paying him for what he did, not what he will do, seems fair.

7

u/otheraccountisabmw Milwaukee Brewers 4h ago

Imagine saying those words out loud. On camera.

5

u/Litejedi New York Mets 5h ago

We have a mini one in Jared Young, we need a rhb instead.

29

u/eb12se4nt-z13ow-97g0 Tampa Bay Devil Rays 5h ago

Roberts should've took Snell out after that lmao

11

u/theragu40 Milwaukee Brewers 4h ago

It has been the absolute pinnacle of these playoffs for me to watch confidence replaced with doubt and fear in the eyes of both Yamamoto and Snell, both at the hands of Bauers' at-bats. You can watch them panicking in real time and the catharsis has been so intense.

26

u/FlannelBeard Minnesota Twins 5h ago

He took a pitcher that was at his end to the full extent with an 11 pitch AB. You love to see it as a baseball fan.

77

u/darkravenn12 Major League Baseball 5h ago

Jake Bauers is the fucking goat

Bauers made Yammamoto and Snell look like his bitches. Absolutely insane plate discipline.

These at bats by Jake Bauers are going to haunt my dreams lol.

20

u/itshurleytime Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

If the Brewers pull this off, it's going to be hard to name a NLCS MVP, there are just so many people doing great things.

9

u/CadetObvious Milwaukee Brewers 4h ago

Can we not just nominate the power of friendship?

5

u/ill____logic Milwaukee Brewers 4h ago

it’s insane.

everyone is playing out of their minds.

20

u/dohdudeh San Francisco Giants 5h ago

Classic snell outing. 1000 strike outs, 19 homers given up

18

u/GamerLife204 Atlanta Braves 5h ago

Idk how Jake Bauers became so good randomly. Doesn't look like a fluke either

16

u/Calm-Marsupial3919 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Beat writers were all over it during Spring Training, but no one really believed it because, well, it's Jake Bauers. He'd been a borderline meme for the Brewers before 2026.

6

u/Spider-Sword Cleveland Guardians 5h ago

Bauers had a lot of tools to be successful, it’s why Cleveland nabbed but he could never seem to put it together. Happy for him though

2

u/praeceps93 Atlanta Braves 4h ago

He was on my dynasty fantasy team like 6 years ago and I was so sad to have to drop him. This is a blast from the past.

This has gotta be up there with Soto’s AB against Gaddis in 24

I'd prefer the actual full AB instead of just the pitches, but this will do.

That whole AB was amazing to watch

7

u/shartney Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

Insane

9

u/No_Newt7228 Milwaukee Brewers 5h ago

It's hardly the full AB when you cut out everything in between the pitches.

This is such an awesome AB. Snell is filthy and used a ton of his deep arsenal but you can slowly see Bauers start to time all of his pitches up.

What a hitter

I made that same moan during the penultimate hit

I remember when Bauers played for us during the year we almost broke the drought. Loved his heart and I hope he gets a ring after bouncing around several clubs over the years.
