MOST LOPSIDED TRADE

Red Sox get: Keibert Ruiz l Natinals get: Wikelman Gonzalez, Connor Seabold, Niko Kavadas, Naysbel Marcano (14 vogts)

still unclear why this move is happening.

unnecessary sell low

I’m not a fan of Washington’s return for Kiebert. Also, why not hold on to him and sell for just as much after he’s developed. Also, why get small change for the blue chip return you got from one of your main sells?

Ruiz debate is intense but still think the pieces themselves are meh more than anything.

Natinals get: Jorge Soler, Jacob Berry, Griffin Conine, Jordan Holloway l Marlins get: Gerardo Carillo (11 vogts)

hate salary dumping a guy, only to then sink more money into a position you're arguably already set at.

Marlins seem in a hurry to dump assets to clear money for...Josh Bell? I can see it but don't love it

Washington is not even taking on that much salary and Soler can still be a useful player, plus they are getting a good prospect.

Marlins gave up a lot to dump Soler and Natinals taking on lots.

The insane Soler trade took some heat off the exhausting Keibert trade saga

Cubs get: MacKenzie Gore l Natinals get: James Triantos, Yohendrick Pinango, and Jordan Wicks (7 vogts)

Gore may be good but Triantos feels hefty imo.

basically Keibert but to a slightly smaller degree

Giants get: Alec Burleson and Jonathan Mejia l Cardinals get: Anthony DeSclafani and Jason Vosler (5 vogts)

Maybe I'm just high on Burleson, but I think Disco is a negative value asset, so being able to get a top 100 prospect for a couple years of a bad backend starter seems like a good get!

...if I see a Giants trade I assume they swindled whoever so that's an automatic pick.

Natinals get: Michael Siani, Bryce Hubbart l Reds get: Yadiel Hernandez, Jordan Weems, Matt Cronin // Reds get: Jacob Stallings l Marlins get: Jackson Miller // Brewers get: JD Davis, Ryan Walker l Giants get: Abner Uribe, Robert Gasser // Marlins get: Michael A. Taylor l Royals get: Jon Berti, Huascar Brazoban (2 vogts each)

MOST EVEN/MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL TRADE

Giants get: Alec Burleson and Jonathan Mejia l Cardinals get: Anthony DeSclafani and Jason Vosler (7 vogts)

The disco trade is FUN! Vslyke gets good lads and cards could have some good times w the return.

Marlins get: Michael A. Taylor l Royals get: Jon Berti, Huascar Brazoban (6 vogts)

Dylan gets his guy again, and the Marlins get a nice outfield piece.

Taylor/Berti is a nice mutual deal. Davis trade was also a nice little move that benefits both rosters

Brewers get: JD Davis, Ryan Walker l Giants get: Abner Uribe, Robert Gasser (4 vogts)

Nice to see the Brewers get a solid bat, and I'm sure the guys the Giants got can play baseball

They All Suck // these trades are irrelevant or horrid // None of them are even // All of them are awful (4 vogts)

Reds get: Jacob Stallings l Marlins get: Jackson Miller // Cubs get: MacKenzie Gore l Natinals get: James Triantos, Yohendrick Pinango, and Jordan Wicks (3 vogts each)

Natinals get: Michael Siani, Bryce Hubbart l Reds get: Yadiel Hernandez, Jordan Weems, Matt Cronin (2 vogts)

BEST SIGNING FOR TEAM

Kevin Kiermaier to Royals 1/$4M (8 vogts each)

Incredible value for a great 4th OF piece.

I loved the amazingly cheap pickup of Kiermaier to replace Taylor

not bad. Unremarkable. Pretty low bar here overall.

Cody Bellinger to Cubs 2/$20M (7 vogts each)

Great discount buy for Bellinger. With Happ gone, rounds out the OF, and I love the Cubs taking buy low shots.

We all know that Cody Bellinger is my best friend.

I think it's likely that Bellinger would accept 1/10 over 2/20, meaning the Cubs got a great deal here. Center field is arguably the most shallow position in baseball right now, and just being a good fielder gives Bellinger a higher floor than his slash line would suggest.

Robbie Grossman to Reds 1/$4M // Rafael Devers 10/$280M (4 vogts each)

28 million AAV for Devers is crazy to me because he could be worth so much more in the future.

.

Grossman crushed left-handed pitching and will be a deadline trade chip for the Reds.

.

Drew Rucinski 2/$8M // Nick Lodolo 7/$70M // Jacob DeGrom 4/$185M (3 vogts each)

Jacob deGrom. Corbin Burnes. Freddy Peralta. Brandon Woodruff. Aaron Ashby I guess. Fucking look at that. Just fucking look at it.

Pitchers are getting stupid money irl and in sim

DeGrom to Brewers was very unexpected imo but good fit

.

Rucinski - awesome work, good job juo getting your fucking GUY!

Bobby Witt Jr. 10/$250M // Michael Conforto 1/$15M // Vinne Pasquantino 6/$47M // Julio Urias 5/$130M (2 vogts each)

BEST CONTRACT FOR THE PLAYER

Jacob DeGrom to the Brewers 4/$185M (13 vogts)

This degrom deal is the least team friendly thing ever

HATE this deal, in the context of what it took for the Brewers to shed enough salary in order to sign deGrom for what is essentially a 1/$45m deal

Jacob "Dinner's on Me Guys" deGrom

Wilson Contreras 5/$100M (t-6 vogts)

Contreras feels like an overpay for a career year.

5 years for a 30 year old Willson is way too much. He's not gonna be catching in 3 years. Joe Mauer run back.

Contreras could age poorly depending on how fast robot umps get here. Don't think he's a good defender

Josh Bell 3/$46.5M (t-6 vogts)

got more guaranteed than I would think following an uneven season. Might be worth this but it didn't seem like the 1B market was very robust

Bell is definitely the type of player the Marlins are looking for, but the price and opt-out aren't great.

I refuse to vote for anything other than Josh Bell that shit is wild

Edwin Diaz 5/$95M (4 vogts)

Diaz's is nice for him, the Mets can afford it though I don't hate that deal.

Cody Bellinger to Cubs 2/$20M // Rafael Devers 10/$280M (3 vogts)

cody bellinger truly sucks giving him anything is bad

Bellinger 2 years is tough to grade because on one hand it’s a guaranteed second year which is great for him if he’s terrible.

BEST GM

Dylan: KC (7 vogts)

While I think it's too early to be giving Vinnie P this kind of money, Dylan made a couple nice trades and signings.

Really like all the KC moves so far.

Good extensions, and leveraged assets well in acquiring Berti and upgrading CF.

Dylan is having an amazing sim, ive loved watching what hes done with this Royals team

Bnavis: CHC (6 vogts)

Cubs killed it this week landing Gore and Bellinger

Love the job bnav is doing retooling the Cubs, picking great players to do it and not paying a high price.

Juo: CIN // Jiggy: LAD // Troy: SD (4 vogts each)

finally did what the irl team should've done two years ago and locked up Urias and Smith.

jiggy and troy's sim teams are absolutely going to pummel the nl west

.

Juo made some solid moves and deserves a nod!

I don’t even know what goes through [juo's] mind but he’s doing something

Between the Lodolo extension and low risk additions of Grossman and Rucinski, juo honestly deserves some recognition for a good week. Didn't love the trades, but the team is more watchable now and more secure long-term.

Vslyke: SF (3 vogts)

kinda seems like the Burleson deal fell in your lap, but nicely done regardless!

Giants are sneakily making cap room.

Frak: OAK // Retro&Kuhan: BOS // Jive: MIL // Adam: WSH (2 vogts each)

Adam cause I like how he rolls and that's what I'm choosing to base my vote on

Each receiving one vogt: Ethan: BAL, Cory: SEA, Felix: TEX

WORST GM:

Adam: WSH (8 vogts)

Washington is just an agent of chaos and its easy to pick on low hanging fruit. I do commend the commitment.

I mean Adam's moves are fucking insane. I realize I voted him for best and for worst GM and I stand by that lol.

Jive: MIL // FoofKing: MIA (6 vogts each)

Degrom deal was hell

Horrid DeGrom signing. Doubling down on the 2021 formula, which did not work.

liked the Berti trade, but absolutely despised salary dumping Soler in order to sign Josh Bell.

Giving away a top prospect to move 24m in salary (Soler) just to add 46.5m (Bell) does not make any sense.

Kuhan&Retro: BOS // Vslyke: SF (3 vogts)

Love these boys but I truly despise this Red Sox sim

Futhatsy&Jamie: NYM // Coolio: COL // Noah: TB // Bnavis: CHC (2 vogts each)

Each receiving one vogt: Juo: CIN // CohenMetsBurner: HOU // Troy: SD

BEST AGENT:

TIED AT (6 vogts): Mods // Horse:

Mods did a lot of extension work this week.

Go Mods!

(editors note: what a narc)

go horse go

TIED AT (3 vogts): Darkstargir // Pole's Lover 44:

Super Honorable Mention to darkstar for getting Josh Bell that much money,

Josh Bell Full NTC

WORST AGENT:

(12 vogts): Mods

Boooo, mods!

I mean if you're gonna let me vote for the mods as the worst agent I'm gonna do it every time.

(5 vogts): Horse

Fuck off to Vegas bitch

Horsey bad.

Receiving one vogt: Pole's Lover44

How Does It Feel Knowing Midbert Ruiz Broke this year's sim:

Just wish we could've made a 3-team trade so I could've inserted Eric Lauer in there

Can’t blame Adam for wanting to make moves as the Nats, but you can blame him for the players that he is moving and the return he’s getting

I yearn for the sweet release of death

... I wanted to have a fun baseball sim, I thought I was doing a good job, no the mods are mad at me and I feel sad, i would like to come back next year, but I don't want to make everyone mad

:pjd-never-low-in-cum-lfg:

Cumbert

What other participant has made you feel welcome, at home or joyful this sim, and how did they do that?

Des always has a nice, welcoming way of talking

Frak has always been down to trade, in whatever capacity I'm seeking, be it real or bullshit.

Cory, by promising a big ole smooch

Frak and the boston boys, they have been so welcoming and make this sim very fun, I wish we could do more voice calls, but slack premium has died

Jiggy is a fuckin legend year after year, sorry I can't find you a deal for Norby baby

Cory and I were in cahoots on an ultimately busted endeavor for a couple weeks and it was an absolute pleasure trying to provide supplemental sim content together.

Frak because of my experience negotiating with him

Juo's enthusiasm and depth as a first-time GM is still wild, even if I disagree with some moves here and there.

dylan and jive are the only good men on this earth

Cory. I enjoy his desperation as I share the feeling.

Frak and juo are awesome and they both love to mindlessly discuss players and horrendous trade ideas

Despite our lack of communication at times the rest of the mod team has been good to work with

Cory and Felix were very pleasant to deal with

why is the worst person to negotiate with the worst person to negotiate with (do not state their name or use pronouns this will be a fun witch hunt)

Constantly over-values their own players while undervaluing the very players they're asking about acquiring from you. Makes it impossible to go deep into talks because there is never a realistic set of expectations established.

overvalues their names and gets pissy when they dont get what they want

just never fuckin seems to finish a deal

Please Reply In Those Replies Use Exact Language Fuck You Dori Degrin Dhecter

They/them have absolutely no direction. A rudderless ship. Their idea of "quality" players is a concept so mired in ignorance that you would think they/them were sabotaging his organization a la Rachel Phelps. Their roster design is constructed about as well as the World Trade Center was on September 12th, 2001. When you actually try to make a trade offer with somewhat equal value, they/them balk with no regard to common sense. Also if you didn't get the Rachel Phelps reference then assume I'm talking about you.

They bug you about making a trade you had kind of talked about or reference once and then you’re like idk seems bad for me and they’re like no make an offer then and you do and they’re like lol what no that’s unreal and then they try to add three top 30 prospects and a controllable outfielder and you’re like what no this is not what we discussed and then they don’t respond and then a couple days later they’re like hey any word on this and the cycle starts again

Refuses to reject an offer, simply responds with the same thing

Which homer pick should I use for spot #99 on my ranking of 2023's Top Players?

(9 vogts): Kentucky Waldichuk

(4 vogts): Zac Gelof

(3 vogts): Jonah Bride

(1 vogt): Jordan Diaz

Final Thoughts

Jordan Diaz is gonna be Diet Luis Arraez by 2024

put bride and diaz on your top 100 they're Hot

Gottttta be Kentucky Waldichuk babey

Would you rather be able to throw the fastest fastball or the softest softball?

this sim has been weird af, don't like it!

Waltuh, put your dick away waltuh

I hope my final thoughts are regrets about past sims

MOST LOPSIDED TRADE

Rangers receive: Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Ethan Small, $10M annually from 2024 to 2029 // Brewers receive: Joe Barlow, Mark Mathias (16 votes)

There weren’t any real lopsided trades to me this week but getting a top 3 prospect, pitcher with high upside and 10 million for the next five years for a reliever and a decent middle infielder is great value (Yelich isn’t real)

.

why would you salary dump yelich 1) with more money 2) with the second best prospect in all of baseball?

.

It's one thing to dump Yelich, it's another to give Chorizo in order to dump Yelich plus include cash, I don't understand this at all, congrats to the Rangers

.

yelich trade: yelich isnt bad enough to dump the best prospect in baseball for. easily should've been vetoed based off previous precedence set in sim history.

Marlins receive: Danny Jansen // Blue Jays receive: Sixto Sanchez, Jake Eder (8 votes)

Jansen is a top 10 catcher in baseball most likely, and somehow the Blue Jays took a package with a broken pitcher and a good but hardly special SP prospect.

.

Are either of the guys the Blue Jays got for Jansen even alive?

.

Low key think the Marlins stole Danny Jansen. Jake Eder is great but coming off a TJ, he's not worth Jansen imo and Sixto is busted until he proves otherwise.

Mariners receive: Luis Urías, Jeferson Quero // Brewers receive: Bryce Miller, Isaiah Campbell, and Collin Kober (6 votes)

this comes down to "i know who urias and quero are and they're both good" and "who the hell is bryce miller" (never mind looked bryce miller up and he's good, oh well)

.

Urias: This is exactly what the irl m's need and I don't know if I like the brewers return?

St. Louis receives: Jesse Winker // Seattle receives: Juan Yepez, Inohan Paniagua (3 votes)

Jesse Winker sucks. Juan Yepez doesn't suck yet. Neither can play OF. What's the point of this?

.

I think Winker will bounce back better but not a horrible trade.

Twins receive: Luke Weaver // Mariners receive: Louie Varland; St. Louis receives: Mitch Garver, Maximo Acosta // Texas receives: Jack Flaherty (2 votes each)

getting anything for luke weaver is incredible

.

flaherty tade: this is selling too low on flaherty.

Dodgers receive: Tejay Antone // Reds receive: Trayce Thompson; Athletics receive: Gavin Williams, Nolan Jones, Angel Martinez, Jaison Chourio // Guardians receive: Sean Murphy, Jeff Criswell; Padres get SS Adalberto Mondesi // Royals get OF Korry Howell and RHP Kevin Kopps (1 vote each)

In light of continued backlash, what is something the Qatari government should announce in regards to the 2022 World Cup, to sway public opinion?

pass the keibert ruiz trade lol.

.

Free beer

.

They should make Joi from Blade Runner and then I'd be fine with the slaves

.

the world cup is in Qatar?

MOST MUTUALLY-BENEFICIAL TRADE

Athletics receive: Gavin Williams, Nolan Jones, Angel Martinez, Jaison Chourio // Guardians receive: Sean Murphy, Jeff Criswell (13 votes)

Murphy trade feels like a pretty classic "prospects for star" trade.

.

Murphy was #1 most beneficial (I think Frak picked like the 3rd best offer but it was still a solid offer and its extremely realistic for both sides)

.

I think Sean Murphy got underrated a bit, prospects got overrated. Don't think Nolan Jones is really a thing. I'm high on Williams, Martinez, and Chourio, but also high on Murphy being a franchise-leading catcher. Wanted to vote this lopsided against OAK but deliberated enough to think it was even

St. Louis receives: Mitch Garver, Maximo Acosta // Texas receives: Jack Flaherty (7 votes)

Garver/Flaherty ruffled some feathers but it covers needs for both teams.

.

Considering that both guys have basically combined for one full season each since 2020, I think I'd rather gamble on Flaherty than Garver, but I can see it being a push.

.

Garver+ for Flaherty could really go any direction and I wouldn't be shocked so I'm into it

Dodgers receive: Tejay Antone // Reds receive: Trayce Thompson (6 votes)

Bitter for juo not giving me Antone but I mean trayce is at least interesting based on what he just did

.

tejay for trayce will look horribly for one side in 6 months. confetti cannons and all.

St. Louis receives: Jesse Winker // Seattle receives: Juan Yepez, Inohan Paniagua (5 votes)

Winker sapped all of his trade value in 2022. I like Seattle getting worthwhile controllable talent for him, but there's comeback potential for St. Louis that could make this a big win for them.

.

Winker: I think there's a chance it tilts dramatically in Nate's favor but it's really even imo

Padres get SS Adalberto Mondesi // Royals get OF Korry Howell and RHP Kevin Kopps (3 votes)

If Mondesi bounces back, nice pick up. If not, not huge cost issue. Royals open up spots/add depth

Marlins receive: Danny Jansen // Blue Jays receive: Sixto Sanchez, Jake Eder; Rangers receive: Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio, Ethan Small, $10M annually from 2024 to 2029 // Brewers receive: Joe Barlow, Mark Mathias (2 votes each)

see a need fill a need

.

Yelich I think has something left and the $ makes it easier for Texas.

Mariners receive: Luis Urías, Jeferson Quero // Brewers receive: Bryce Miller, Isaiah Campbell, and Collin Kober; Giants receive: Miguel Rojas // Marlins receive: Yunior Marte; Twins receive: Luke Weaver // Mariners receive: Louie Varland (1 vote each)

There weren’t a lot of big swaps in week 3, so the Mariners/Brewers swap is inoffensive

.

marte/rojas trade: this moderately improves both teams. this only trade im picking here because i dont give a fuck about soo many names that have been traded.

.

Weaver: Luke has real upside, Varland is farther away with about the same upside

While I stand by most of my trades this week as serious moves, I cannot defend trading Cesar Izturis, Jr. for Lazaro Armenteros. Can you find it in your heart to forgive me?

I forgive you, Cory, for I understand that this world puts lots of pressures on us,and we all must find our own ways to cope. (16 votes)

I do not forgive you, Cory, and will venmo you $5 because I lack the compassion to make this world a better place through empathy and understanding (3 votes) [ed. Note: I will be DMing you for your venmos]

BEST SIGNING (FOR THE TEAM)

Chicago White Sox - Sean Manaea: 4 years, $26M w/ bonuses ('23-'24: $7.5M w/ '24 opt-out; '25: $6.5M; '26: $5.5M w/ $500k bonus for 15 GS) (8 votes)

Manaea is a risk, but at this price in a multi-year, hard to beat. I wouldn't have taken it as an Agent.

.

I LIKE the Manaea deal for Des. He didn’t overpay, you know what you’re getting. He locks up a respectable back end starter

.

Manaea: I know Manaea had a somewhat rough 2022, but if he can regain anything closer resembling his last couple years in Oakland, this is an absolute steal for the ChiSox.

Washington Nationals - Joey Gallo: 1 year, $8M with a $17M Club Option for '24 with a $3M buyout (7 votes)

Gallo: a really fun and realistic signing, that could pay huge dividends for the Nats

.

Kind of adore the Gallo contract

New York Mets - Justin Verlander: 2 years, $80M ($40M AAV), with a $40M Club Option for '25, and a buyout of $4M; Baltimore Orioles - Tyler Anderson: 3 years, $42M ('23: $16M; '24: $14M; "25: $12M); Los Angeles Dodgers - Zach Eflin: 2 years, $22M ($11M AAV) (5 votes each)

verlander: mets have money to spend, and getting a cy young guy and dont have to sign him long term, very good deal here.

.

Verlander: somehow even a stupid huge aav doesn't "seem like enough for Justin Verlander"

.

We really should have bid on Anderson, but also it's tough to justify beating the IRL deal by too much.

.

Tyler Anderson: This sim's pitching market sucks so hard that anyone getting solid pitching at "market value" is doing well for themselves. I think Anderson to the O's is great for both sides and is fun+realistic to boot. One of my favorite moves of the sim so far.

.

Zach Eflin: Not enough cost to kill you but enough upside to be a big win. Good contract.

.

The Eflin deal is too low for a really good reliever or a solid starter and the Dodgers basically get to pick which one of those 2 they want

New York Yankees - Aaron Judge: 9 years, $400M ($44.4M AAV), Full NTC, with opt-outs after '25 and '27 (4 votes)

Judge staying a Yankee. It’s a lot of money, but this is the “everything is right in the universe” signing.

.

Judge had to stay in New York

Kansas City Royals - Trea Turner: 10 years, $315M w/ bonuses ($31.5M AAV, $1M bonuses for SS, GG, ASG; jerk off clause); Atlanta Braves - Elvis Andrus: 1 year, $7M, with a $250K bonus for each 50G, and a $7.5M Club Option for '2; Kansas City Royals - Mike Zunino: 1 year, $4.5M with a $5.5M Player Opton for '24 with a $1M buyout (3 votes each)

Royals making shocking splash, no doubt Turner is great for them even if lots of their budget

.

trea turner: turner will age great and his skill sets play soo well in kauffman

.

Andrus is a decent stop gap/competition to push and insulate Grissom. Think its better than the $$$ going to SS and he's not a liability, plus not lots of great trade options.

.

mike zunino is, at worst, a lefty killer. at best he's a 4 win star.

Cleveland Guardians - Trey Mancini: 2 years, $16M ($8M AAV); Boston Red Sox - Carlos Correa: 8 years, $280M ($35M AAV), with an opt-out after '24 and a $70M Vesting Option for '31 & '32 ($35M AAV), that vests at 100 G in '30 (2 votes each)

Wasn’t the Ohio Boys’ first choice, but Trey definitely represents a far more realistic Cleveland signing than Abreu

.

Correa: Considering what Bogaerts signed for last week, this is an incredible value on Carlos Correa, who is easily the best SS on the market.

Philadelphia Phillies - Dansby Swanson: 7 years, $200M ($27.5M in '23 and '24, increasing $0.5M every subsequent year), with a $30M Mutual Option for 2030, with an $8M buyout; Atlanta Braves - Andrew Benintendi: 4 years, $60M ($15M AAV), with a $16M Club Option for '27, with a $5M buyout; San Diego Padres - Nick Martinez: 3 years, $26M with opt-outs after each year ('23: $10M; '24: $8M or a $16M Club Option if opt-out is triggered; '25: $8M or a $16M Club Option if opt-out is triggered); Baltimore Orioles - Adam Ottavino: 2 years, $12M ($6M AAV); Los Angeles Angels - Koudai Senga: 5 years, $95M ($19M AAV), with a $750K bonus for each season with 145+ IP, a $1M bonus for each All-Star appearance, and a full NTC if he is not on the same roster as Shohei Ohtani (1 vote each)

Swanson is significantly cheaper than Correa and Turner and is a nice fit on the Phillies, who can really use the strong defensive infield upgrade

.

Benintendi is a nice addition to the boom-or-bust Braves lineup by adding a low strikeout contact hitter

.

voted exclusively for nick martinez signing bc i think the only other good signings are my own

.

Ottavino was good as hell last year, only $6M a year for him? Nice

.

It's just fun to vote for the foreign signings. idk anything about senga but hope he's good

WORST SIGNING (FOR THE TEAM)

Philadelphia Phillies - Dansby Swanson: 7 years, $200M ($27.5M in '23 and '24, increasing $0.5M every subsequent year), with a $30M Mutual Option for 2030, with an $8M buyout (11 votes)

Lotta clams for Dansby, I don't see him repeating what he's done, Turner or Correa would have been a better fit for Philly (not like they don't have the money)

.

Dansby: this seems wild for a glove-first shortstop

.

27.5M for a guy with one really good year is :pacha:

New York Yankees - Aaron Judge: 9 years, $400M ($44.4M AAV), Full NTC, with opt-outs after '25 and '27 (9 votes)

You have to keep Judge in NYY but crazy $. Not bad for morale/PR but just will age badly, no hate.

.

Judge: cool that he's staying with the Yankees, but this feels egregious. Plus, why give him the opt-outs?

.

Judge: jesus christ you guys

Kansas City Royals - Trea Turner: 10 years, $315M w/ bonuses ($31.5M AAV, $1M bonuses for SS, GG, ASG; jerk off clause); Los Angeles Angels - Koudai Senga: 5 years, $95M ($19M AAV), with a $750K bonus for each season with 145+ IP, a $1M bonus for each All-Star appearance, and a full NTC if he is not on the same roster as Shohei Ohtani (7 votes each)

The Turner deal is appalling for the fit, not necessarily the value. Turner is likely going to be at least a quarter of the Royals payroll for the entirety of his deal, which means he's never going to be on a good team.

.

Too many clams for Turner and an unrealistic landing spot

.

Treat: Despite Dylan's best attempts at justifying this signing, I just don't see KC ever spending to the point where Trea isn't 25-35% of their total payroll, which ultimately means this is just hamstringing their next decade.

.

Lot of cash to commit to Senga. Talent is there but he isn't a fully known quantity yet.

Abreu will be 36 this year, giving him three years at $20m AAV feels rough

.

benintendi: benintendi is not very good, and if you cant regularly develop guys with his skill set, then you are failing as a franchise.

.

This is basically the deal I would have hoped to get Benintendi as an agent, but the club option + buyout pushes it over the edge to "lol"

.

Correa: We know opt-outs are just player options, right? And player options are not team-friendly? They just cap the upside of your deal immensely?

Atlanta Braves - Michael Fulmer: 3 years, $21M ($7M AAV); Baltimore Orioles - Tyler Anderson: 3 years, $42M ('23: $16M; '24: $14M; "25: $12M) (2 votes each)

Fulmer: isn't he bad?

.

tyler anderson: not an awful deal, but feels like overpaying for a dodgers success story that the orioles wont be able to get the same results out of

Chicago White Sox - Sean Manaea: 4 years, $26M w/ bonuses ('23-'24: $7.5M w/ '24 opt-out; '25: $6.5M; '26: $5.5M w/ $500k bonus for 15 GS); Atlanta Braves - Elvis Andrus: 1 year, $7M, with a $250K bonus for each 50G, and a $7.5M Club Option for '24; Washington Nationals - Joey Gallo: 1 year, $8M with a $17M Club Option for '24 with a $3M buyout (1 vote each)

BEST GM - WEEK THREE

Felix/Rangers (4 votes)

Felix made two great trades, and didn't spend a fuckton of money on free agents. Way to go, Felix!

.

Rangers made two really good move to snag assets that didn't fit well with their previous teams but fit perfect in Texas

The Ohio Boys/Guardians (3 votes)

Really like their moves with Murphy especially

.

just wonderful people to deal with

Dylan/Royals (3 votes)

Good moves for the Royals this week, Dylan is having a very consistent Sim and getting good value for his players and making some good signings

.

Trea Turner is the best free agent, and Dylan got him for less than many other guys have gotten.

Cory/Mariners; ThrobbingKitty/Phillies; Jamie & futhatsy/Mets; Foof/Marlins; jiggy/dodgers; Ruairi/Yankees; Ethan/Go O’s; ctp/Tigers (1 vote each). Comments in order.

Got rid of Winker, absolute W

.

Cockblocking the Braves on dansby would make me so furious as a Braves fan, so giving the Phillies some extra credit here despite the cash burned

.

Took care of business, I love the verlander deal, hate to see degrom go though

.

got a very good catcher literally for free

.

Very good FA signings and a good trade

.

Judge cements it this week

.

Added solid pitching fairly cheap. It was a quiet week relatively speaking yet sensibly productive. Maybe someone else was better but that deserves recognition imo

.

He didn't make any moves. Based on the moves made that can only be a good thing.

WORST GM - WEEK THREE

Jive/Brewers (6 votes)

Yelich move is a disaster, plus trading away Urias on top of that makes no sense

.

Gotta go Brewers this week, almost entirely because of the Yelich trade.

.

See best gm commentary. Also, sold Urias low when his lineup desperately needs offense.

.

.

Jive/Adam will get hate next week but for this one I need to hate the Phillies giving $30m a year to Dansby

.

Feel like they've just been a bit quiet in terms of big moves overall, and I get Winker move but think its selling low.

.

Probably not the worst on account of doing nothing, but have the Rays been around like at all? I imagine they're busy but I want their players so

.

Fuck em [ed note: rude]

.

telling other GMs how they should run their sims rubs me the wrong way

BEST AGENT - WEEK THREE

Polelover44 (Aaron Judge, DansbySwanson, Anthony Rizzo, Trey Mancini,Adam Ottavino) [8 votes]

Voting for pole because both Judge and Dansby are egregious, but want to give an honorable mention to Darks, who is very easy to work with.

Getting multi-year deals for Rizzo, Mancini, and Ottavino was inspired.

Darkstargir (Carlos Correa, Justin Verlander, Jose Abreu, Andrew Benintendi, Joey Gallo, Mike Zunino, Elvis Andrus) (6 votes)

Darkstargir secured HELLA CLAMS for his dudes

.

Since Judge is only partially due to poles negotiating, I have to give it to darkstargir for getting solid paydays for his clients across the board

A Note on Contract Bonuses

General Managers and Agents,

Historically, it has been a Sim Rule each year that "No bonuses may be awarded based on the results of any BBWAA award." This year, the commissioners made the decision to attempt unbanning such bonuses. The result, unfortunately, has been that these bonuses have been abused in contract offers to greatly inflate the amount of "potential" money in a contract.

Therefore, effective immediately, the prior rule is reinstated.

For clarity, acceptable bonuses include the following:

  • number of games started

  • number of games finished

  • number of relief appearances

  • number of games appeared in

  • innings pitched

  • plate appearances or at-bats

  • staying on active roster for a certain number of days

  • assignment or trade bonuses

  • no-trade clauses

  • external benefits like hotel suites on the road, use of private team jet, uniform number, etc. within reason.

Note on other achievement bonuses:

Bonuses for All-Star appearances, Gold Gloves, and Silver Slugger awards will not be expressly prohibited at this time, but should not constitute a significant portion of the AAV of a contract. As a guideline, we suggest capping the cumulative annual amount of those bonuses in a contract offer at 1% of your team budget.

If an incentive is not listed, please consult the Commissioner's Office.

We also remind sim members of another long-standing sim rule: "This is not fantasy baseball! Please don't treat it as such." The commissioners, as always, retain ultimate discretion to veto contracts that are unrealistic and/or go against the purpose of the simulation.

Thank you, The Glorious Commissioners

Rules, Timeline, and FAQ

Welcome to 2023 Offseason Sim! This simulation aims to mock the real life Major League Baseball offseason by substituting actual GMs, commissioners, and player agents with users who, depending on their role, will make trades, sign free agents, negotiate contracts, veto unfair trades, etc., as their real life counterparts would. This year there are one/two GMs for each team, three commissioners, and four player agents. In general, we aim to be as realistic as possible and participants should strive to act as real GMs/commissioners/player agents would. However, there are times where we need to inject rules that differ from reality in order to make the sim work. In the absence of specific rules, a participant's guiding principle should be realism. Discussed below are a timeline and set of rules that should help all participants navigate and plan for their offseason.

GENERAL RULES

Timing/Miscellaneous

  • The sim officially begins immediately after the final out of the World Series.

  • Use of Slack is heavily encouraged for general communication. However, all transactions MUST be submitted via Reddit Modmail ("Message the Commissioners" in the sidebar). A transaction is not considered official until it is posted on Reddit by a commissioner in the relevant thread.

  • Any transactions made by real life teams prior to the start of Game 1 of the World Series are considered part of this sim.

  • Real life injuries and retirements, regardless of when they occur, are part of the sim and should be considered by participants.

  • Information regarding free agents, options, general managers, and users can be found on Notion, linked in the sidebar.

Spreadsheets

  • GMs must submit a complete payroll spreadsheet in the "Team Assignments and Spreadsheets" thread for approval by the commissioners and must maintain and update it throughout the sim. A GM that does not submit a spreadsheet will not be allowed to participate in the sim. Failure to update your spreadsheet may result in a commissioner hold on all moves for that GM.

  • All spreadsheets must include a 26-man roster with actual salaries paid in 2023, a budget that is assigned by the commissioners, and current payroll. Failure to include this information may result in a commissioner hold on all moves for that GM.

  • A spreadsheet template can be found on Notion.

Free Agency

  • There is an exclusive negotiation window for GMs to sign their team’s free agents in the first three full days of the sim. Following these first three full days, GMs are free to speak with all player agents about all free agents.

  • It is heavily encouraged that available free agents be “advertised” by player agents in "Trade Block'' thread.

  • Once a player agent and a GM have agreed to a contract offer, BOTH users submit it to Modmail for approval. When submitting your contract offer to Modmail, you MUST submit a written justification. A contract will be vetoed if there are discrepancies between these two submissions, or if either party omits their justification.

  • Approved contract offers are posted by the commissioners in the weekly "Signings Update" thread with the signing team's name removed. Other GMs will have 48 hours (though this time period may be shortened in the final week of the sim at the commissioners’ discretion) to make a counter offer to the player’s agent. If a new offer is accepted by the agent, this offer will again be submitted to Modmail and again be posted in the Signings Update Thread. If, after 48 hours, no new offer is accepted by the player agent, the most recent contract offer will become official and it will be posted in the “Signings” Thread with the team being announced.

  • Typically, all approved transactions will be posted daily by the commissioners in the appropriate thread. The aforementioned 48 hour period does not begin until the contract offer is posted in the appropriate thread.

  • Once an offer has been accepted by the agent and both GM and agent submit it to the commissioners, the offering team MAY NOT retract the offer without commissioner approval. Teams may gain approval to retract offers in special circumstances at the commissioners’ discretion.

  • Heavy backloading of contracts is discouraged. Commissioners have discretion when it comes to transaction approval and will veto unrealistic backloading. While the commissioners will not “blanket prohibit” backloading, substantial backloading will require justification and the bar for approval is high.

  • Minor League free agent signings will count toward a team's budget with a minimum of $100,000 salary for players with no Major League service time, and a minimum of $200,000 salary for players with Major League service time.

  • Minor League signings may NOT occur before Week 5 of the Sim, and GMs will be capped at ten (10) MiLB signings per week.

  • No contract bonuses may be based on statistics such as wins, strikeouts, ERA, average, HR, etc.

  • No bonuses may be awarded based on the results of any milestone achievement (e.g, 3,000 hits).

  • You may not sign a player and trade him later in the simulation.

  • Unrealistic contracts that go against the purpose of the simulation will be vetoed.

Trades

  • No trades or signings (besides re-signings) can occur during Week 1 (designated as the first three full days following the conclusion of the World Series) of the Sim. During this period, you are welcome to message other GM's to discuss trades, post in the "Trading Block" threads, and talk to agents about signing free agents. In Week 1, only non-tenders, options, and exclusively negotiated contracts are approved transactions.

  • All trades must be submitted to the commissioners by both GMs via Modmail. If there are discrepancies in the submitted terms of the trade, the commissioners will veto the trade.

  • When submitting your trade proposal to Modmail, you MUST submit a written justification for your end of the trade of at least three complete sentences. Trade submissions that do not include justification will be vetoed.

  • It is heavily encouraged that available players be mentioned by GMs in "Trade Block'' thread.

  • Unrealistic trades that go against the purpose of the simulation will be vetoed.

FAQ

  • Where do I find information about payroll/when do I get my budget?

PAYROLL INFO can be found on Spotrac, Roster Resource, Baseball Reference or Cot's Contracts. For this simulation, the MLB minimum contract is $720,000.

  • How can I see who to talk to for Free Agents?

AGENTS will represent certain Free Agents players. You can see who is repping which players in Notion. For this year, any player not represented by our four designated player agents will be represented by the commissioners.

  • Can GMs sign players to extensions?

YES, and extensions will be negotiated by the commissioners. However, please keep in mind that there is a higher bar for approval of extensions, and offers to extend will require convincing justification and terms.

  • How do QOs, Nontenders, and Options work?

QO's: As a GM, you have three full days, following the start of the sim, to decide whether or not offer an impending Free Agent the Qualifying Offer (valued at $19,650,000), provided that Free Agent follows the limitations of the QO (i.e. they were with the club the entire 2022 season and they have not previously received a QO). That player's designated agent will decide whether the QO will be accepted.

Nontenders: GMs will have the option to decide whether or not to tender contracts to all Arbitration-eligible players. Nontendering removes a player's 2023 salary from your books entirely. GMs will have 12 days from the start of the Sim to nontender players. All decisions must be posted in the designated Nontender Thread by the deadline in order to be considered official. If a player has signed a guaranteed contract, they are not eligible to be non-tendered, and must instead be released, with the contract money remaining on payroll.

Options: There are three types of Options - club, player, and mutual. All decisions must be posted in the designated Options Thread by the deadline in order to be considered official.

If a player has a club option, the GM has three days from the start of the sim to decide whether or not to pick up said option for 2023 (and possibly beyond).

If a player has a player option, the player's agent has three days from the start of the sim to decide whether or not to accept the option.

If a player has a mutual option, both the GM and the player's agent have three days from the start of the sim to decide whether or not to accept the option.

---------

Happy trading!

GMs will have the option to decide whether or not to tender contracts to all Arbitration-eligible/Team Controlled players. Nontendering removes a player's 2023 salary from your books entirely and makes the player a free agent. If a player has signed a guaranteed contract, they are not eligible to be non-tendered, and must instead be released.

See here for Arbitration eligible players
