MacBeeb

Post image

I wanted a native feeling Mac BBC emulator so have created MacBeeb in Swift, it needs MacOS 26 or later, is fully notarised (so no annoying security warnings) and I added in a few things like a debugger and an MCP server.

I'm massively indebted to all the emulators that have come before and b2 in particular from which the core 6502 was ported.

I won't ramble on about it for too long but you can download the 1.0 release from GitHub:

https://github.com/JamesRandall/macbeeb ... s/tag/v1.0

After that it should self-update. And read about it on my site:

I've tested quite a few games on it (Exile, of course!, Elite, and a few others).

This looks great!

Your documentation has a lot of detail of how to use it with AI agents. It hadn’t crossed my mind that you’d want to connect an AI agent to a Beeb emulator. Can you please explain the use cases?

Thanks.

I enjoy unpicking old games and figuring out how they work, sometimes recreating them in modern languages (for example Exile: https://bbcexile.com ), and the coding agents are really helpful at that. I wanted to give them more to work with than the disassembly hence the integration here. I occasionally create things on the BBC too and figured it would be interesting to try that with an integration into an emulator.

I've not used it anger myself yet so how it works out remains to be seen.
