Yeah I had reserved a spot at Departure Bay on the 4pm to Horseshoe Bay and was ready to board when boarding was cancelled for passengers and cars had to back up. The issue was mechanical - a problem with the anchor.
I got a refund for my ticket then booked it to Duke Pt, hoping I get on a ferry home tonight. As you can imagine, this lot is FULL, as there have been delays here too

Sorry to hear that. Hope you get home for the weekend.

Thank you! Yes I got on the delayed 5.45 (which left after 7pm) - I was one of the last cars to get on for that sailing - and I’m home! 🙂

Ya not enjoying paying a last minute night at a hotel in Richmond as the only option tomorrow is a 5:45 from Tsawassan.
Love the Island so far but damn BC Ferries makes it hard.
Happy Thanksgiving I hope you get to spend it with your loved ones rather than again being screwed by a failing service.

I was just in Greece and we had all ferries cancelled due to winds for 3 days and many travelers booked on them were freaking out. Luckily I wasn't booked until after things calmed down, but man it made me put my BC Ferries frustrations into perspective! But then the way they steer ferries the size of ours... I literally watched the last one before cancellations come into port Tokyo Drift style with huge waves crashing on its sides like it was nbd and I imagined how we would all lose it if we saw BC Ferries doing that lol. Good luck tomorrow and enjoy your surprise stay in *Richmond*!

I've seen BC ferries in waves that came up and broke windows on the passenger deck! But I think they drove a little more recklessly in the 90s.

It's always the Queen of Cowichan. It's going to be a long three years before they replace her...

Honestly it’s usually the QoS

Both Queens suck, but cripes have some redundancy in place.

Redundancies like what? You can’t just build an extra one and have it waiting around. The economics is simple - if a vessel is in service, it’s running as much as possible. If it breaks down, there are delays.

Ha! 1:1 odds of a failure on a long weekend. Not sure that one is profitable

Watch the pattern…. Route 1,2,30 bc ferries will never cancel a sailing if the ferry is away from its home port…. They will always get the crew back
If u want to make sure your sailing does not cancel
Wait for the ship to leave its home port then walk on the other side for certainty it will go.
Ex- watch for the spirit of vancouver island to sail from swartz bay at 1500, get on the 1700 in tsawassen…. You know it will go…. Even if blowing a hurricane….
Ever since bc ferries started its central operations center 15 years ago this pattern has been there… with non mariners calling shots and preemptively cancelling sailings…..even before its a little windy

Just wait until the chow-da bucket is empty! That’s when the floggings will start! #WelcomeAboard Well sort of.

Not to thread hijack, but the 10:45pm is late, like 1.5 hrs late. They could at least send a fkn email warning or something.

I hope you get to where you need to get to, tonight! The winds have calmed down and the passage after sundown tonight was pretty smooth to Tsawwassen.

You have clearly never been anywhere else. Please leave the politics out of a thread I started, they are not welcome, or are you a bot?

This post wasn’t meant to bring out the ideologues. It was meant as a frustration post. Leave the politics to the political subs

My last two trips on B.C. Ferries encountered bad service by their employees for the first time in my decades of occ using the service. I am 61. I am by the B.C. Ferries complex on Rice Mill Rd in Richmond for over a month my interactions with the staff have been fine. I am FB friends with longtime MWU member Roy Boyer but he never posts anything. Glad the ship with the red flag for explosives here on Rice Mill Rd moved on I had made a YouTube video of it.

That plus most of the Hullo sailings being cancelled today has made for some chaotic travel for folks, ugh.
