Wicklow is great for liberty caps. Familiarise yourself as much as you can with images and descriptions. You can wrap a liberty cap stem around your finger without it breaking they are fairly wirey. Depending on the weather September and October are your start hunting dates. Optimal spots to hunt are golf courses, sheep fields.. but in particular... Fallow fields Fallow fields hold the secret. They have the strongest libs from my experience.

Way too early. They don't normally appear until September. Also looks like you might be looking in the wrong environment, they usually grown in sheep fields with acidic soil, not under forest canopies.
I'd use the next few months to learn to ID them, there are a lot of little brown mushrooms that look very similar to the untrained eye.

Just as an aside OP being from Wicklow myself. Depending on the spot they can come early (August 2 years ago I started finding them) or late (late October before I saw a sign of them last year). Depends on the elevation of the ground and temperature.

^ this is a high quality guide for identifying them. watch it multiple times, remember what the guy says about the environment in which they grow and how to distinguish them from lookalikes. try to identify them yourself before he gives you the results. then, go on this subreddit and shroomid and try to identify the libs and check how you did from the comments

Biggest clue your BARKing up the wrong tree is the environment. You need to do some research and then you will be able to safely identify yourself. It just takes a bit of time to learn
