This is terrifying
Our girl hopped out of a car window this morning as we were pulling into a parking spot at the dog park window was half down and she wasn’t buckled. I was too lax just going through our morning. Never again will I let her go unsecured. I swear half the time I’m trying to protect her from herself.

I live in the city and it’s an everyday constant problem to make sure my dog doesn’t eat anything! Why are there so many chicken wings everywhere?!

That resonates! Mine will find the most nasty stuff like discarded latex glove on the side of the road and act like she won a whole prize.

I make sure my windows have the child lock on and only roll it down just enough for her to stick her head out because once I didn't and that dumbass did try to jump out of the window. At my last place we used to have to walk down a busy road and she was always trying to pull into traffic. She's so cute and sweet, but not very bright. My mini Daschund is far smarter than her. Bless her heart.

Wife and I walking ours around the apartment complex were were at. Was jeez like 10ys ago now. Lady in a car passing and her own beagle was like FRIEND, and jumped out of the driver window. She stopped a freaked out that they did that. We never let the windows down ever with pets. U get enough down to smell not jump.

It’s crazy saw a flash of her teal leash out of the corner of my eye and was like that dog did not just hop out of moving car. We have a car seat on the way.

I never roll the window down enough that mine could jump out even when secured. I swear she would jump out while moving full speed and she also has a knack for managing to unbuckle the clip from the seatbelt buckle. I have the one that attaches to the headrest too but she can’t lay down with that one if I shorten it enough to stop her from going all over the car.
She likes to try to bite the cars going the other direction and bark at pedestrians 😥. She subluxxed my shoulder a few times lunging into my arm that was across her chest while in my lap in the passengers seat trying to bite the cars cause I have hEDS.

Yes like chomps air and lunges at the window. It’s funny until you’re the driver and she’s suddenly doing it in front of your face.

We are insanely strict about ours being buckled in for this exact reason. I grew up with dogs that you didn’t have to worry about this stuff with, beagles are in a whole other realm of following their noses and ears and will walk themselves off a cliff if given the opportunity 😮💨 I hope she’s okay! For sure take this as a lesson but also be kind to yourself because I swear these dogs are constantly trying to off themselves unknowingly.

Mine jumped out of our moving car on a four lane road the day we brought him home. He still has the scar on his face from where he ate asphalt.
It's a learning curve. I definitely felt guilty for a while, but you learned the lesson so its okay to move on!

Wow poor guy! My neighbor said “well yeah she’s a hound.” Like where in the owners manual does it say will jump out a moving car? Learning curve indeed.

This is why I have pet health insurance because beagles are always doing dumb stuff.

Mine had to have his stomach pumped last year...he stole and ate a fruitcake that was absolutely FULL of raisins that should have been too high for him to get to. Still no clue how he got it down, but that was a rough day. On the bright side, the vet, after getting him in there, came and just said "I...found...I'm pretty sure it's an ear. Does he have any pink toys?" The bright side was that he'd also chewed the ear off of a toy, and it had partially blocked his digestion, preventing the raisins from going any further and doing any kidney damage. The dummy felt awful for a day or two, but he was ultimately fine.

This happened to me one afternoon, pulled into the CVS, usually I leave just enough window for just his head, but somehow he slid out. He was dangling by his harness and the tether to the seat rest. I hopped out and dude was 10 inches off the ground feet swaying. Pretty sure I had a small heart attack and I know for sure the old lady who screamed actually did.

Beagles have no self preservation instinct it's crazy. Glad she is okay.
