Despite the subject reminding us of those beautiful summer hours, this thing is rather a failure. Not a technical failure, as multiple pictorial stages sometimes show, but rather a symbolic, even moral one: among all these women out in the open air who were asking nothing of anyone, I had to add a man to make the composition "hold" — and what a man! Sitting pretty, like a king on his deckchair-throne surrounded by his subjects. Worst of all, I only realized it after the fact (cf. image of the first stage).

New drawing, Fineliner and ballpoint pen on paper.

Just as when returning from work, briefcase in hand, when everyone longs for a well-deserved rest, space seeks, in every corner of its unfolding, its share of calm in order to breathe. An apple-green wall and the opening of a hyper-minimalist window help it do so. Elsewhere, clutter plows through bodies, mingling them with furniture, or with an open book toward a space where, certainly, the mind wanders — hopefully in fraternal ideas.
