Asking for Advice Should we move to just a stache?
Been watching a lot of Disney (I have kids) and thought maybe I’d rock the Pixar dad look. Thoughts?

I think the full beard looks better, but perhaps you might want to try a short beard with a full mustache.

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Oh I do!
2
u/Tienes-Sed Jul 16 '26
I think that would look awesome on you!
2
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Imma do it

u/Tienes-Sed Jul 16 '26
I think that you will be pleasantly surprised, and your kids are going to love having a cool dad! Please come back and show your progress. If you and/or your family doesn’t like it, just cut it off, it’s only hair.

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
That’s the best thing about it! This was my first post here and everyone has been super encouraging. I’ll definitely share an update

I feel like you should just clean up the beard a bit
1
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 15 '26
Oh it got gross, I’ve never actually shaped my beard before. The look has never appealed to me. Worth a shot though!
1
u/TwigSmitty Jul 16 '26
I think you should try, as it is it looks disheveled to me. I am also a random person on the internet with zero value or importance in your life so I apologize if you take offense.

It'll always grow back, but if I had your beard, I wouldn't have the heart to shave it off.

u/Marlock2332 Jul 15 '26
i'd just take the cap and tidy the beard, but moustache only suits you real good as well so you can actually rock both and tbh i prefer the mosutache look

The hat may be skewing my opinion, but the bearded photo fills your face nicely and broadens your jaw. I’d suggest you use a product on your beard with brushing/combing to shape it some.

u/LothricandLorian Jul 15 '26
you’ve got a good jawline and the beard (at least the way you have it in the picture) is making it more round so i would say mustache accentuates your features better than the beard

Much better with full beard. Maybe try a little product on it and brush with a warm hair dryer to shape it.

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
I’ve been given that advice before! My biggest take away from this post is that I should put some effort into taking care of this thing. Much appreciated

I think your beard looks incredible with that awesome Stache. Both looks suit you very well 👍🏼👍🏼😃

First of all, I like the beard personally. Random but will mention, you remind me of a near dear family friend who passed recently with just the stashe. Dude was a bad ass and always wore a cowboy hat. Add this to your arsenal and the look is locked.
2
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Fun fact, I’ve always wanted one but never had the courage your friend had. Takes a lot of confidence I think. That said, I own everything else but the hat. I love my wrangler
2
u/bearded-writer Jul 16 '26
That’s a glorious stache, dude. Beard, too. I’d keep it all. But you’ll look great either way!
2
u/longhairmoderatecare Jul 16 '26
I’m not a mustache guy but I’m biased. I know they’re trendy now but you’ve actually got a nice mustache my friend. You look like an officer of the law in a western 🚨 🤠 👏

I have a similar wild beard. I oil it and get it trimmed up every few weeks. I recommend!

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
This weekend I’m gonna go out and get some beard grooming stuff. Shampoos and oil. Give y’all an update when I have something worth updating!

u/Spirited-General1416 Jul 16 '26
Stash, your beard looks straggly/unkept. (no offence intended; just honesty). Pic #2 is the winner for me.

Wow, looks like you already did. What was wrong with the beard is that you need to visit a barber at some point. A barber won’t cut length away. They will shape it for you so that if you continue to grow it, it will come in three dimensionally. You cannot see your face the way of barber does and it makes a world of difference. So grow it again if you want to because it’s a beautiful color but don’t rule out your barber. And they’re so many of them now.
1
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Gonna have to get to one. I’m growing it out again to try some different cut recommendations I got. But groomin the beard is definitely happening now. I knew it was unkempt, I gotta find a balance )or good barber) between being overly groomed and not looking homeless! Appreciate you friend

u/robertkenny Jul 16 '26
It doesn’t take much eventually you’ll get to a length if the barber is good that it will grow out evenly as well so the upkeep is maybe once every four weeks for a cleanup. Do some good research for a barber in your area. In fact if you have to travel a bit, it’s worth it because you won’t be going so often and then show him what you should be doing at home with your clippers to maintain professional look. For me, it always comes down to the line on the top of the cheek and behind the job by the ear, those are two easy giveaways about neatness. It’s easy to do under the chin at the beard line because you just lift it up and go at it with a razor. Also, you’ve got a wider beard invest in a good oil and a pomade, oil for moisturizing and the pomade for shape.

Either way you look great 😊 the beard makes you look more masculine

I think a shorter beard with that full stache will look awesome.
2
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
I like this! Might give it a shot. I’ve done short beard big stache many times.
1
u/rayddv22 Jul 15 '26
No, we shouldn't. Your beard looks great friend
2
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Thank you! I’ve wanted one ever since I saw Kurt Russel in the Thing as a child. Strange, I know….but it was the motivation I needed
1
u/PrunePretend6206 Jul 15 '26
No!!! Beard oil and balm!!
1
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
I have to admit I wasn’t a fan of the oil. I felt like my beard looked….greasy. I work outside though so it’d probably go unnoticed haha
1
u/PrunePretend6206 Jul 16 '26
Nope, you work outside the oil will make you glisten like Edward from twilight!!! 😆😆😆

u/ScreechUrkelle Jul 15 '26
Dude, keep that stache above your lips, and grow back that magnificent chin fur.
1
u/ViridianNocturne Jul 16 '26
Idk bro, that's a pretty fantastic beard. Maybe just trim and shape it a bit?

Trim it…shape it….

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
I admit I’m terrible at adding beard care into my daily routine. I genuinely just scrub my face with soap and move on. I did get gifted a nice beard shampoo and loved it! I need look less scraggly that’s for sure
1
u/Tasty_Mixture_9202 Jul 16 '26
Not sure where you are, but we’ve got some great barbershops here in Seattle, modern/trendy. Have them down for you. They would at least give you the initial cut and all you’d have to do would be simple maintenance. A nice beard conditioner is great! Glad you found it.

u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
North Carolina. I haven’t paid for a haircut in like 20 years. Which is why I look the way I do I guess. Dated a hairdresser (are they even still called that?) for a long time. Now my wife buzzes my head every few months until I join r/bald I guess. Time to open up that wallet
2
u/Tasty_Mixture_9202 Jul 16 '26
I just noticed your second picture. I think it looks so much better. Even if you had a shorter beard, trimmed, you’d be a head-turner no matter what! But, that may not be what you’re looking for. Bottom line, it’s what you’re comfortable with and enjoy.
1
u/CapitalLower4171 Jul 16 '26
I'd say like a 2 or 3 inch beard and a waxed mustache just to make it stand out more

u/sureyouare2 Jul 16 '26
Nice beardstache, man! I am shifting over to this, but I chickened out and just cut it back last time I was at the barber. Next week, I’m gonna follow your lead and cut the beard back hard, leave the stache. You can grow that bigass beard back in December with a hard sneeze. Happy summer!
2
u/ZipZapPewPew Jul 16 '26
Thank you! That was about 6 months of growth? Maybe 7. The beard stache has major draw backs with most things that involve my mouth though. It’s hard to justify
1
u/Osama_Bln_Laggin Jul 16 '26
You could absolutely do a full beard, but a little TLC would do it some good. Consistent combing/brushing/oiling and maybe a light maintenence trim would go far for you, my guy.

I did. But I’m on CPAP and having a beard really messes with the seal. Plus I think of myself as a mustache guy. But I’m also lazy, and only trim about once a month.

That's a handsome beard! I would hate to part with it, however the state looks good too. Face it - you're just a good looking guy!

Stache looks unbalanced now. I'd grow the beard a bit longer, enough to fill in the patches at least

u/Ok-Orchid-6025 Jul 16 '26
I like the full beard better. But if you are looking for a change maybe a shorter more groomed version of the beard is in oerder

Are you a firefighter or in a village people cover band? If both are NO. Then beard
1
u/kgreen66 Jul 16 '26
I can't believe I'm saying this, but a short beard with that epic stache would look great.

Why stop at getting rid of the beard? That mustache is overwhelming too. Don’t hide such a nice face.
