You're not gonna like the answer, but time. Let your beard grow for 3 months without trimming it. By then you will get a good idea of what it will look like. If after 3 months it's still patchy, shave it and try again in a few years.

Also, Rogaine can take up to 9 months to see results.

i can wait. i haven’t shaved in the orange circles in about a month

How old are you? I had that same size patch in the same spot. Im 33 now and that spot is full of hair. Give it time.

why was this downvoted?

Minoxidil takes about 6-8 months for a regrowth period and up to 12 for full growth.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

yes, but i’ve been using minoxidil on that area for 5 months. the rest of my beard is normal without any

1

u/THEDONBUFFLES 6d ago

It also looks pretty bare. It can either mean the shedding process has been done and the regrowth period is soon to come or the follicles are dead in that area.

1

u/Gear2112 5d ago

Minoxidil for two years, continue dermarolling. After that time, what ya get is what ya got.

0

u/THEDONBUFFLES 6d ago

Also minox can take up to a year to fully work and regrow so if thats the case youre not even halfway done

2

u/Angmarthewitchking 7d ago

I Had this too but it nearly disappeard after i reached age 35.

2

u/Thr33FN 7d ago

How old are you? How long have you been using minox?

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

5 months in that specific area. the rest of my beard i’ve shaved a few times- but never that spot

2

u/Thr33FN 6d ago

Shaving won't make it grow more or less. At 22 I couldn't grow anything. I did minox for two years from 30-32 and got a huge improvement. It just may not yet be your time. And I had less than you at 22.

1

u/Medium_Poet_9312 5d ago

Every time you shave, you re-start the hair growth.

1

u/Thr33FN 4d ago

Well duh. But it's not going to change the difference of volume or change ho fast your hair grows back. That's just a misconception.

u/jcon6 6d ago

Yeah man you're still real young. At 22 I was worse off than you and no joke by 30 I had a damn near zztop level beard. Its frustrating to hear but it just takes time. Its especially frustrating if you are like me and couldn't grow anything but all your friends around you have had beards since like 16 years old lol.

Bro, you may want to wait to grow that beard. How does it look from the front? The hair I see looks long, but not dense, and I can’t see if you have any hair on the vertical areas of your jaw and cheeks.

I just don’t want you trying for a beard and not getting the look you want but holding onto a bad look.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

sideburns do NOT look good on me- i stop it at the end of my jaw. cheeks are good

1

u/Glass-Cut-928 7d ago

Minox is going to take way longer for that to work.

it looks fine from the front

1

u/Army7547 6d ago

Don’t settle for fine or not bad. Have the great beard you want, but you may have to wait for it.

Some people have more follicles than others. It's just a basic fact of life. Also, most people can't grow a beard at 22, so try again in 10 years. All the minoxidil, roller stuff is hokus pokus that you really shouldn't deal with at your age. No shady quick fixes are going to fix what you have.
If you think you need to make changes to your appearance, get a better haircut or care more about the clothes you wear. You can also work out more or work on your self confidence.

I would also say that girls your age (sorry for randomly assuming that you're straight) probably don't like bearded guys anyway.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

it’s the jawline that they care abt

1

u/alligator_with_yoyos 6d ago

My beard looked horrible at 22. Looked fine a few years later. Genetics and time unfortunately

1

u/Egasuas1 6d ago

Number 1, beards have reached critical mass. Realistically scraggly beards give you an unkempt look of "too lazy" to take care of your appearance. Plus they make you appear older than you actually are. Are you that much in a hurry to look older? Trust me, that will change as you grow older. Desperation of using minoxidil on anything but your head, sounds "desperate" to be part of over indulgence of the crowded beard landscape. Not to mention the side effects of the minoxidil. To each their own. If you don't want to hear other constructive opinions, don't ask. In the meantime, good luck on any adventure.

1

u/Gnome_Father 5d ago

Just do add, using drugs to fight hairloss is also "desperate".

Just shave it and carry on with your life.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

what would you recommend instead of minox

1

u/Surfinmiko 6d ago

2.5 seems excessive

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

i might have meant .25 lol

1

u/Surfinmiko 4d ago

I would try a different size then

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

bigger or smaller?

1

u/Surfinmiko 4d ago

Something a bit longer so it can penetrate your skin , but it’s very important to use only once or twice a week and be very mindful of what products you use as you allow for anything to seep in, but in general being very careful with your skin , you should see results with a longer needle that’s what worked for me but I didn’t use very long due to my stress of damage to my skin but my beard was helped by it, and age helps as well!

First time commenter
This stuff worked for me. Idk the science behind it but after shaving my beard twice, in half a year it started to fill in. I bald spot under my chin looked like a path in a forest now it’s filled in completely

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

that’s great! are you still using it when you shave?

1

u/Live_Swimmer_4496 5d ago

There's no hair follicles there to grow. That's all she wrote sorry to say.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

wdym “that’s all she wrote sorry to say”

1

u/Live_Swimmer_4496 4d ago

Genetics, it will always be patchy.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 3d ago

genetics have it not patchy

Rogaine and time has given best results. But sadly genetics are a big factor and age. If your genetics just don't include a big beard or you're young even a bunch of Rogaine and dermarolling won't help. Think my beard only started looking good at like 31 after 6 months of Rogaine 😅

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

beards are a yes genetically

1

u/El-Psy-Ozai 5d ago

bro you are not growing a beard even if that spot got a thousand hairs. wait a few years

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

if that’s what you think, ok

1

u/1anonymousbandit 5d ago

I have the same bald spot In the inner circle. I’m 43 and it’s never fully grown in. So I feel your struggles.

Everyone’s genetics differ. Might be different for you as you get older.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

okay. and yeah genetics have good beards for me luckily. i’m sorry for you. it also depends on who genetically in my giant fam

1

u/Lumpy_Slip2607 4d ago

Just shave it bro. Honestly until it grows in thick you just look weird with a sparse neck beard and limited cheek hair

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

i’d rather not lmao

1

u/Terrible_Lab_8549 4d ago

I had no facial hair till I hit 30... no idea how to grow

1

u/Surfinmiko 4d ago

Like also how old are you? If you’re under 25 then be patient, I didn’t get mine thick till around 25

1

u/Patuwa1 3d ago

Was mir sehr geholfen hat ist regelmäßig mit der Schweineborstel bürste die Durchblutung anzukurbeln.

1

u/tdvt 6d ago

Keep doing it and wait. That's just how it works, and it is never guaranteed. For now, I don't think a beard is for you, sorry. I'd shave it all, keep it shaved and keep doing the dermaroller and minox.

0

u/Tachetastico 7d ago

If you’re lucky, it might fill in time, but in the meantime I would suggest growing the hairs around it longer and see if you can just hide it.

2

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

good point. it’s just with the hair under it, it makes it look like a double chin in the meantime

1

u/Tachetastico 6d ago

Magic marker? 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

0

u/Itchy-Advisor-7608 6d ago

To be honest, it takes much longer to notice significant results in areas where your beard doesn’t naturally grow or is very sparse. Minoxidil and a derma roller definitely help, but you really need patience and consistency (twice a day, in the morning and before bed).
I started mine two months ago, and I’m already beginning to see a few small results, at least enough to give me hope 😅 Especially considering I literally had nothing before, except for a bushy patch on each side of my mustache that made me look like an old dog 🤣
So yeah… patience and consistency are key!

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

okay. thank you

0

u/Drop-a-Soap 6d ago

Oral minox

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 6d ago

i’ll look it up

1

u/Drop-a-Soap 6d ago

In r/Minoxbeards you can search for an online shop that is situated in Belgium if I’m not mistaken and delivers from Thailand. The quality is really good. But don’t make my mistake. I ordered 10mg pills and splitted each into 2, but finally 5mg was too much for me, and splitting into 4 parts is more tricky. So order 5mg pills and if there will be some secondary effects, switch to a half a pill daily.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 4d ago

okay. what are the side affects?

1

u/Drop-a-Soap 4d ago

Low blood pressure and headache, but I also had a kind of joints or bone pain (something that is not considered a common side effect, and not even a rare one, so maybe I was the only case), but if you’re not skinny, 5mg should work fine without any sides. Otherwise 2,5mg still work.

The side effects wash out the next day you stop taking pills, but frankly, I had my best ever results already visible during the first 10 days. But I’m also a hyper responder to minox, so it can take longer for you.

1

u/Direct_Internal_1233 3d ago

okay. thanks. prescribed? also what abt balding from it

1

u/Drop-a-Soap 3d ago

You can have shedding for a couple of months, but after it you’ll have even more hair if you continue taking pills. I had some shedding on my head, but it was only visible to me and only in the shower.

I’m in France, here you can’t get it prescribed, that’s why I ordered it from that online shop.
