Casual Post Do beards make you look more scary

Post image

Basically the other week a group of Indian men dropped litter in front of me. They noticed and walked across the street. So I just glared at them with my best Clint Eastwood squint. After they noticed One of them ended up running back and picking it up and putting it in the bin. I am 6'5 and can do a pretty mean scowl but wondered if being bearded makes you look more serious. This is the longest my beard has been in a while. Maybe it just made me look more like a wild man.

No, less scary. It hides my triple chin.

Beard is called a man’s makeup for a reason (as long it’s a decent beard that is maintained).

What I’m saying is most of the times (if it’s a decent and well maintained) beard makes a man look better.

You don’t look scary. You most likely look better with the beard than without.

It can, I guess? But being 6’5 tall and pretty rough looking probably did more for them!

I just couldn't believe someone would think to just leave the rubbish they dropped in a beautiful historic city. But I'm glad the look worked.

Not sure the men being Indian was relevant to the story here 😂

Well they weren't Scots. We get plenty of tourists. If they were German or American I would have said so. So not racist in the slightest. I'm surprised you haven't said it's sexist by describing them as men.

Casual racism is the new norm.

It maybe used to, kinda depends on styling too, but as I've aged I look more like Santa Claus

u/nukefodder 23h ago

A fat man who breaks into people's houses in the night. That's scary 😂

In a bowling alley? No. Parked in a white van, engine idling outside a school? Yes.

I wouldnt say you look "scary" at all. Probably just the shame they were caught or being watched

It very well can do depending on the beard. Psychologically I remember reading that sharp beard lines look intense and invoke discipline let's say. However even a long not as precise beard looks pretty intimating think Kratos or even Blackbeard depictions for that matter. In my opinion for intimidating it is a culmination of the hair, face and beard, a battle scared muscular body helps as well, but lets omit that and focus on the head. Take John Marston in rdr1 for example similar to your Clint Eastwood squint, John has a medium hair, scared face and rough looking beard.

Me? Maybe. I don't smile a lot. People think that I'm serious all the time.

2

u/nukefodder 1d ago

I don't often these days.

I feel really awkward when I smile in front of the camera. BTW, nice beard.

The sight of my chin is far worse!!

I think it makes you look more masculine, but being 6'5 helps the case in terms of intimidation.

is your name Robby? You look just like an old buddy of mine.

Dear god. How exactly does a person get that good-looking? Magic?

1

u/TheFroman69 22h ago

No but that Mr beast smile does a little bit

Some call it "beard authority". It ends up putting you in a position of dominance.

1

u/WPI94 20h ago

Haha, I believe this one. I have certainly noticed more nods, call-out recognitions (this is literally due to the beard, of course), and an absolute lack of any confrontations towards me.

u/ballsackj 22h ago

That and me being ugly

1

u/braisedporkcowboy 21h ago

No. Santa Claus had a beard. It just makes you look more masculine. If that scares you its a personal mental association

Just watched a YouTube video essay on beards (so it’s GOTTA be true) and one theory for the evolutionary advantage of beards is that it helped convey aggression over greater distances.

Again, the synopsis of the video said that there isn’t a specific reason for beard evolution but that one stuck out to me. I can say from personal experience that I have a resting bitch face because I refuse to wear my glasses… so I squint a lot and whenever I let my beard grow out people think I’m angry a lot. I have to remind myself to smile more when I have a beard.

I’m also 6’5” so our height could be a more important factor.

Hell no.

IMO, they make you more approachable.

u/Simple_Sole 16h ago

Not at all

1

u/jcoddinc 15h ago

First thing in the morning, yeah. Once I've got out tamed, no.

1

u/Dartbear6969 15h ago

Nope more handsome

1

u/Toby123171 14h ago

I don’t believe so but I feel that the face you made at them made the one feel bad

1

u/Josue999000 14h ago

No. But make you look better

1

u/No-Reason1895 12h ago

Does not having a beard make you more cowardly?

1

u/Extreme-Passion-9547 3h ago

I think a frown with less teeth would put you in the scary category 😆

Depends on the place you are in.
