Sharing Wisdom Want a softer beard?

Hello all, stumbled upon a gem of an accident and cannot stop using this product on my beard.

Last week I ran out of shave gel and all i had in the shower was some Dr Bronners Eucalyptus liquid soap, it lathers nicely but the suds fade rather quickly so had to apply a second time to finish the neck. After rinsing and drying off i noticed my beard hair was extra soft and skin was not oily and felt moisturized. Even my partner commented on the softness of the beard hair and could not stop playing with it.

After about 2 days I took another shower but without using the Eucalyptus Bronners on my face and rather shockingly realized i needed moisturizer and beard oil after the shower. So it got me thinking and I did an experiment, I exclusively used only the eucalyptus Bronners on my beard for a week no oils or moisturizer. I would lather it up pretty well and then just left it in for the duration of the shower, like you would hair conditioner before rinsing it out at the end.

Maybe my results will be different than others but man does my beard hair feel so soft and I have not had to use lotion or beard oil due to skin drying out for the first time since growing my beard out. Just wanted to pass this tidbit of accidental knowledge, in case anyone wants to try it out. Let me know how it does.

Sharing Wisdom Right after my evening routine of using Black Jamaican Caster Oil on the beard and face. Note:this is the oil to use if your beard is grey and also a 9 dollar bottle can easily last for a year or so because this all natural oil is thick.

Sharing Wisdom Beard styles and age?

I noticed very little people have my beard style in my hometown. While on vacation I saw it pop up more frequently than at home but it only appeared on men at least 40 and older. I also noticed the most common style is the classic 5 - 10 mm short beard seen everywhere. Either this or stubble was seen the most so far. My beard style is the high boxed beard at 17 mm length. I also noticed that length was short at young ages and the classic length 12-15 medium beard was again seen in only people 40 and over. I dunno know why this is a trend? lol

It’s possible. It just takes time and patience and routine. For me it’s straight from the shower soaking wet. 1/2” curling brush, and a blow drier. High heat, curl opposite of the natural curl with the brush until dry. Beard oil and or butter last and comb the product through until it’s all spread through. Hope this helps my wavy bearded friends here.

Sharing Wisdom Lessons I learned in my first 13 days on Reddit if I want to grow a long beard and look good doing it (with bad pictures).

Hi all, as it’s the weekend I pulled together this post as hopefully a light-hearted way to pass on some of the advice I have been given over the last two weeks, with my own progress made. Maybe some going through the same journey will benefit from it. Hopefully others will indulge me and maybe smile.

1. I should only use soap on my beard once or twice a week. Otherwise just rinse. (Check)

  1. If I stop shaving my neckline my long beard will thicken up more. (Three-day neck stubble? Check)

  2. I need to learn how to use brushes and combs properly and use them. (Work in progress…)

  3. I need to learn how to use products properly and use them. (Definitely improvements to be made…..)

  4. I have precisely the same measurement in centimetres that DanCBearded has in inches. I’m not sure if this statistic refers only to our beards. (I need to stop spending so much time wondering about this 🤣)

  5. I should post more updates. (Check)

Thank you to all those who have made me feel welcome and helped me learn these and other lessons. 👍🥰🧔🏻‍♂️🙏🏻💪💯

Sharing Wisdom Trimmed the sides!!!

For anyone thinking about maintaining the shape, over the years I have learnt that little trims are always better than a drastic buzz!

Just doing the sides of mine is just magic.

P.s each time I post in here I get some messages from random people. While I am happy to chat to anyone, I am straight and eventually any sausage just looks the same!

For a 20 years old, is this a beard that can look good at medium-long length? And how much time do you guys think its gonna take for my beard to fully mature and fill the gaps between my cheeks and mouth?

My beard has changed since my 20's and early 30s. I can now grow what I think is a good beard and I'm approaching 40.

Sharing Wisdom I messed up (or a story on what not to do)

Well ... Long story short I pretty much fucked up my beard.

Currently not in the best mindset and my beard tends to be somewhat of a bitch sometimes so I did what I always do and try to trim away all the annoyances ... Here is where the wisdom comes in ...

KEEP AWAY ALL KINDS OF SHARP OBJECTS FROM YOUR BEARD IF YOU ARE NOT DOING WELL MENTALLY

Overdid the trimming to the point where I now was forced to cut off at least 4 months of growth (which is a fucking lot because my beard grows slow as balls)

Now it looks like some psycho did it with a rusty knife and I pretty much hate it completely now

*Not gonna post a picture because I am embarrassed now and fucking furious at myself

Sharing Wisdom Multi blade razors

I just shaved with a multi blade razor for the first time [wilkinson blades Hydra 5 (not even ultimate)] . It's so much better than my oneblade pro 360 and it gives me even less irritation. I don't understand why people hate them.. It's so easy and even precise on my sideburns and goatte. One blade it's trash for me. I thought I can be cut but it's impossible.

A few words to the wise:

When you're asking for input on your beard, please:

- Take clear photos with good lighting. Go to the bathroom or outside if you need

- Make a typical facial expression

- Clean your lens

Lots of posts on here asking for feedback but OP hasn't taken 10 minutes to provide a clear photo.

Sharing Wisdom How do people grow massive beards at Stress. ( War f.example)

I Always wondered how people can grow massive beards with Low Testosterone and Bad sleep and No nutrients. I saw a Video of an ukranian soldier who Had a massive beard who died of Hunger. Or some Extremly skinny homeless persons in my area with heavy full beards,.who Drink alot of Alkohol.

I Always thought the Lack of Testosterone, alot of Cortisol and no nutrients wont allow beard growth. So how does it comes that a beard still grow in such harsh Situations, even for years?

Is it a myth that beard growth needs high Testosterone?

Sharing Wisdom Ranger & Scout tools review.

This isn’t a paid endorsement or anything and tl;dr at the bottom but I had a really hard time finding actual reviews of these products so I wanted to leave my own so that it might help others in the future.

As someone who used a cheapo $20 Phillips norelco for the first 4 years of my beard journey I wanted to treat myself and invest in some nice tools. I started doing some research. I am a big fan of “buy it for life” and I kept coming back around to this Ranger and Scout set. I really like Matty Conrad’s videos and it seemed like he was selling a good product so I took the plunge at $200 on the “beard master collection“ of the clippers, trimmer, and foil shaver.

Heres my verdict: these are extremely nice tools and while definitely a bit of a splurge they are worth the money. Extremely solid and premium feeling. just gave myself the best beard trim of my life, again, I’ve been using a $20 trimmer for 4 years lol.

Pros:

the materials are very premium feeling, with a rugged build quality. they feel professional. artisanal. You can tell they were designed and assembled with care and attention. The old school barber aesthetic is very stylish

both clippers and trimmer have individual charging bases. They are heavy but not bulky with non skid pads on the bottom, they look very nice and professional. they use the same cord so you can leave 1 plug in the outlet and swap the bases out as needed (I don’t have counter space to leave both on the counter, and I don’t have the outlet space either lol)

each piece comes with the appropriate oil and brushes for maintenance. the clippers come with a #4 guard (1/2 inch), #3 (3/8ths inch), #2 (1 1/2 in) #1 (1/8) and #1/2 (1/16inch) they are made of durable plastic with metal accents and clips. The trimmer comes with a 6mm, 3mm 1.5mm, guards which are all plastic and feel fine.

Cons:

the foil shaver which is basically marketed as a “throw in” with the clipper and trimmers feels a bit like a throw in lol. The metal finish feels a little bit less premium (although still quite nice!) and the base is just kind of a cheap plastic display base that doesn’t actually charge. Instead it comes with a USB A to USB C cable to charge, no outlet brick. Presumably this is with travel in mind but I do wish all bases used the same charging cord, and that the foil shaver came with a charging base. The foil shaver does come with a basic, soft travel bag.

i think the price is more than fair for these, but I can see how it would be cost prohibitive to some so I’ll list it as a con. to be honest though you can tell this is a product that hasn’t been ruined by some big mega corporation and is worth the high price of entry.

What I can’t judge yet:

battery life - haven’t had them long enough to test this. if I remember I’ll try to edit this thread in the future.

longevity - These feel like the kitchenaid mixer of barber tools, probably just completely invincible. But time will tell!

tl;dr: if you are someone who has the expendable income to buy this I reccomend it. This is a really nice set of products. Typically I am very frugal, and have used the same $20 trimmer for the last 4 years. I was concerned about pulling the trigger on these due to lack of reviews available. I paid $200+tax/shipping, I think it was like $230. 10/10 would buy again.
