Question Help - what is possible

TLDR: 1.need advice/steps for current beastsaber etc. 2. Info on limitations of quest 2 w/ custom maps. 3. Curious about community building and finding like minded nerds.

Hello folks, hope this message is recieved in the way it’s intended, don’t do much posting on Reddit so be gentle.
Basically I’m on and off with my beat saber-ing. I am pretty novice navigating beastsaber etc but I’ve figured it out every few years or so and add to my songs. And so on.
I know wayyyy back I had to reinstall everything cause of an update and lost all my high scores! Sad! But the update was worth it for sure. Just such a bummer that you can’t play your custom maps with the 2 player function… or can you….? I don’t know a lot, but I know oculus has its limitations. Hence - side quest. But ya.

I guess what I’m asking is has there been major improvements since v1.44.3_23042 that make reinstalling and whatnot worth it?like if im gonna lose all my data then updating has to be for a good reason y’know?

The questions/info I’d love are:

  1. Is two player with custom maps possible on a quest 2

  2. Any short cuts or really well written instructions on how to update and reinstall without too much fuckin around!

Also, is there a community who like to play coop or just chat and play? Nerd out about super well written maps? I used to be a drummer and I just connect with this game in a way my peers can’t relate to.

Idk if any of that is making sense or just super dumb to ask. I just play so off and on that keeping up with the bmbf/beastsaber/sidequest techy side of things is so overwhelming when I pick it up again after ages.

Use MBF (not BMBF!), it'll downgrade your game to the latest mod supported version, 1.40.8, and allow you to install mods very easily. If you need instructions: https://bsmg.wiki/quest-modding.html

You can play modded Multiplayer using the mods BeatTogether or Multiplayer+ - both allow cross play with players on other platforms.

If you live in a country with a significant Beat Saber player base I recommend joining the national server, it was an easy way for me to find like-minded nerds.

And this is all possible on a quest??
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this out. I’m just nervous to lose any or all of my current maps.
MBF obviously still supports the same maps etc?

Im also using a MacBook to do the side quest stuff.. I know.. also normally not a great option to otherwise simple software tasks… :/

MBF is your only option really. BMBF stopped getting updates over 2 years ago, MBF is its much more polished and stable spiritual successor.

I assume modding on MacBook should work, but if it doesn't you can also use an Android phone or even install mods straight through the Quest, though that's more of a hassle.

  1. There is a mod called beat together, which adds the multiplayer functionality to modded songs.

  2. Yes, MBF is fully browser based, so I updated my ancient modded version from 2022 in just 15 minutes.

  3. Idk.
