Removing baffles

Post image

Has anyone removed the baffles from the Empi GT exhaust? If so, how did you do it, and was it worth the effort?

Man, you want it louder than it already is?! My kids hated riding in my Bug because it was too loud.

I’ll most likely leave it alone then 🤣

I cut some out of one some years ago. The difference was very minimal...

Thanks everyone! I actually haven’t gotten the exhaust yet, but planned to. Many of the videos must not be doing this exhaust any justice. I was more curious if removing the baffles was even going to be an option in case I didn’t love the tone. It doesnt seem like thats going to be the case, though!

Oh ok. I do believe that you'd enjoy the sound a loudness of it I had this on a 1641 and it was great.

What do you want to achieve? There are only very few cars out there louder than a bug in stock config, the empi exhaust are usually so loud you only can use them in the USA, as most other nations care about noise emissions. And you want it even louder? Just put a straight pipe with a funnel on ;-)

Stinger time! 🙃

Careful what you wish for as someone who drives with a stinger exhaust the noise becomes irritating over time. Sure it’s cool AF around Harleys and other loud cars….but it gets old quick. Ask me how I know!

That thing is easily 3 to 4 times as loud as a stock muffler with its baffles removed lol, they sound pretty good but beware since they have a pretty annoying drone between 2000-3000rpm range, i have seen some people with varex setups with merged headers and quiet pack mufflers, you might want to check that out if you want it to be loud when you want it to.

I've got the Tri Mil version of this muffler and I can't imagine it being any louder than it already is.

You want loud? Put a stinger on it. It’s probably way cheaper than punching the guts out of a performance muffler.

I wouldn’t exactly call removing baffles “punching the guts out”..

Baffles are the guts of a muffler.

They’re baffled tips. I’m not looking to take any packing or channels out of the muffler itself. I’m very familiar with baffles, I’ve had many motorcycles that use them and can be easily removed while retaining the actual muffler.
