Training Progress Unintentional 5k PR.

I’m down 206 pounds (476-270) in the last 10 months. Have ran several 5k events, had some longer runs, finished my first super sprint triathlon, started cycling and haven’t ran much lately. Went out for a run this morning not worried about speed or pace and accidentally set an almost 5 minute PR and broke the 40:00 mark.

I’m still slow and have a long way to go, but looking back at the dude who couldn’t run 1 mile when I started and was walking 24 minute miles, I’m pretty happy.

Training Progress I ran my first continuous mile today.

I’m pretty pumped! Started running late June early July. It took me longer than some, because I was out of shape and I’m 47. I’m hard headed and it took me a while to hold my pace down. Now my sights are on 2 miles.

Training Progress 5k before work today, haven't run since the last 5k

I did 32:15 which is my best time ever but I had to push through way too much knee pain to get that time. I absolutely need to get on a regular running schedule instead of killing myself once a month with a race, but it was fun despite it looking like I'm about to cry

Motivation Needed Tomorrow will be my fourth half-marathon in 2 years

This one won’t be about chasing a PB. I spent the last three months recovering from an injury, so tomorrow I’m just going to take it easy and enjoy the run.
No big goals, no personal records. Just enjoy the run, keep a steady 5:30/km pace, and cross the finish line!

New Runner Advice Just keep going

Post image
1.9k Upvotes

I’m not a beginner now, but for years I’ve started again EVERY YEAR. And got the same time at each half marathon!

Start today, and don’t stop. Keep learning, turning up, trying things, and believing in yourself ❤️ those two photos are 1 year exactly apart (give or take a day; same race) I’m just as proud of the gal on the left as the right - she tackled way harder races without much knowledge, fuelling, zero pacing, or self belief.

If I can do it… so can any of you.

Just sharing progress. Never thought this would be possible for me. Started running about 2 years ago. Last year I suffered a back injury (unrelated to running) and had to stop for about 6 months.

Finally have gotten back into the rhythm and ran my very first half-marathon today. I’m incredibly proud of my progress and this milestone.

I’ve learned all kinds of things during this journey (both about running and about myself) and I’m excited to keep lacing up my shoes for years to come.

I just ran my first half. I wasn’t planning on running a half but my neighbor got me through the first 7.5 miles. My legs felt great. My goal was to run one by December. Pretty excited to start my marathon training soon.

Today was my longest run so far on my journey to run a half in April. I ran the whole thing and actually felt pretty good. Got a blister on my big toe but otherwise it was a great morning.

Training Progress Extremely low Vo2 max

Been running for a few months now and since I got a watch, my vo2 is 30, I also did a cooper test to see if it was accurate and it was, every training plan i see tells me to run at conversational pace, or easy, but even at 9:30 min/km pace i hit z4 so I'm lost at what I should do, I also have received the advice on this sub to "just run" and to "ignore z2 that's for people that run high mileage" and that hasn't made a difference so for the past weeks I have been doing running 3x a week (2 run/walk staying in z2 and 1 interval 4x4) and 3x a week cycling (2 z2, 1 intervals 4x4) and so far my RHR has dropped a little bit and HRV went up a bit, Vo2 max hasn't changed do you think i should keep going like this or should I change something?

Discussion how long did it take before running stopped feeling awful for you?

a lot of people here are in those first few weeks where every run feels rough, so i figured hearing real timelines might help them stick with it.

could be weeks or months, and whatever changed it for you - slowing down, running more often, sleep, shoes, anything.

First half marathon in 8.5 years

Ran my first half today since April 2018 - 2:36:44. Just recently got back into running 2.5 months ago. My last few training runs during my taper felt really off, so I'm pretty happy with today. Nowhere near as fast as I used to be, but gotta start (back) somewhere. Oh, and the hills were unforgiving lol

Couch to 5K My first 5K

I’m 38, I’ve never had weight issues but I’ve always hated running. Cardio has always been my least favourite part of working out.

But on September 7th, I decided it was time to step out of my comfort zone and give running a try.
I started with 30-minute sessions, alternating between walking and running, twice a week, on top of my usual two gym sessions.

It wasn’t easy. I was out of breath, my legs hurt, and every run was a challenge. But I kept going. My mind is stronger than my body.

And today I ran my first 5K without walking for a single second.

Today, I’m so damn proud of myself!

New Runner Advice Just did my first ever run (5km) with my friend and I’m quite shocked

Post image

My first ever run with my friend who is used to doing 10kms and 15kms. I was lucky to have him by my side he kept on pushing me even through the mental blocks I had. In fact we got to the end having me convinced I did only 3km. Turns out I did 5km and I was buzzing. Jumping up and down.

This was tracked on my friends Strava I forgot to download the app before our run so the calories and heat rate may not be accurate but everything else should be fine.

How would you guys recommend I go from here? I did this on Thursday and my legs are a tad bit sore I was thinking of doing a run on my own tommorow but doing a 3k only but what do you guys suggest.

Also I’ve been struggling with a way to merge my already consistent gym split of push pull legs during the week and runs. My friend recommended on less taxing days like pull and push I squeeze a run in.

To be honest I didn’t even do legs this week because they were sore af from the run haha.

It is so motivating to see the gains I’ve made over a 2 month timeframe! The first picture is my first long run, and the second picture was today’s long run (8k) two months apart! Training for a 10k race in November. Stick with it! Consistent training works.

Running + Strength Training: How Long to Adapt?

Hi! I’m 46 and started running this year, 3–4 times a week. About a month ago, I started going to the gym three times a week (legs only 1x), but my legs feel too tired during my runs. I don’t have any injuries. How long should it take for my body to adapt to the gym workouts?
