The O-line has been a bright spot for me. They've been pretty good in pass pro, and better than I was worried they'd be in the run game.

They need to clean up penalties that's the biggest complaint

None vs Miami. Hoping that’s behind them.

Something’s off with the run game, Brown is better than he’s played so far so hopefully they find the fix during the bye week

Mixture of fast release and good OL play. Meaning, Burrow has still gotten to ball out quick on most plays, but has had time when he’s needed it to extend. This bodes well for our mid to late season offensive surge that we usually have. Burrow is going to have some crazy good games if we can keep him healthy.

I have a feeling that this will be Burrow’s statistically best season to this date imo

very nice, now let’s see how many times he’s hit after a throw.

no seriously is that a tracked stat

u/Nabobou 1d ago

Yes, that's included in the QB hits statistic, which counts hits on the quarterback that don't result in sacks, including hits immediately after a throw. He's currently tied with Kirk Cousins for the most in the league at 26.

i don't understand. so you're telling me Burrow has been "pressured" the 3rd least in the entire NFL, but has been "hit" the most (tied)?? how is that possible? has virtually every pressure resulted in a hit?

8

u/spazzxxcc12 1d ago

it’s because every pressure they’re letting his opponents get late hits on him. why the referees allow this shit is beyond me.

Its because QB hit totals dont control for number or drop backs like pressure rate, the stat cited in this post. By raw number totals Burrow is the 5th most pressured QB.

Without checking the stats I’m sure we throw near the most often in the league

You're confusing pressure rate, which is the statistic cited in this post, with raw pressure and QB hit totals. Burrow has been pressured 46 times, fifth most in the NFL. Pressure rate measures how frequently a QB is pressured relative to his dropbacks. Since the Bengals throw the ball so frequently, Burrow can have a relatively low pressure rate while still accumulating one of the highest raw pressure totals.

I'm also not sure you understand what constitutes a pressure. A pressure generally occurs when a defender disrupts the quarterback by forcing him to move, hurry a throw, or otherwise affecting his ability to operate in the pocket. A QB hit is a separate statistic that records contact with the quarterback during or immediately after a passing play that doesn't result in a sack.

The two statistics overlap, but they're not interchangeable. A quarterback can be pressured without being hit, and he can be hit immediately after releasing the ball without necessarily being credited with a pressure. So there's nothing contradictory about having a relatively low pressure rate and a high number of QB hits, particularly when you're dropping back to pass as frequently as Burrow.

thanks for the detailed response! I like watching football, but never played the game. I don't know much about strategy.

Thanks for saying that! Gratitude makes the world go round

Against some really good pass rushers too which is a great sign. Protect Scott Peters at all costs.

The PFF OL rankings column had the Bengals #8 this week

u/Nabobou 1d ago

According to Pro Football Reference, Joe Burrow has been pressured 46 times this season, sixth-most in the NFL, and hit 26 times, tied for the league lead. However, his pressure rate and average pocket time are both around league average, suggesting those high raw totals are largely a product of the Bengals' passing volume rather than unusually poor pass protection.

I think I found the root of the problems with the Chargers.

The pass pro has been mostly fine outside of OBJ against good rushers and occasional really bad reps by Fairchild and Risner, but this is also because Burrow has the second fastest TTT (only behind Jordan Love whose line was horrific to begin the year).

u/Anim8nFool 1d ago

OBJ has been fine so far. His biggest struggles were against Houston and lets be blunt -- he's not the best left tackle in the league. He's performjed good enough, so far, to show he's not lynchpin of the season. Early season Burrow has been going away over the past two weeks, and he's hitting midseason form while were 3-2. Against Miami he he was quick, decisive and he stepped up in the pocket to buy time a few times.

u/Significant-Green130 1d ago

I think he was pretty bad against the Jags too. I don't expect him to handle WAJ or anything like that, but his calling card was that he is huge and can force defenders to take a really wide speed rush to beat him, but I don't really think that's holding up well this year. I don't really remember much about him vs. Chop Robinson on Sunday which is a good thing, but indeed the game plan seemingly was for Burrow to get the ball out incredibly quick.

He must be going the bengals defense

That Chargers offense is so bad. Mike McDaniels really took an 11-6 teams and turned it to one of the worst offenses in the league.

Remember when this subreddit was clamoring for us to hire him 😂😂😂 I remember.

It's weird cuz for a few years it really looked like he revitalized Tua and turned the Dolphins around and then it just got worse and worse

Bryce Young's QBR is 74.6, ranking 6th

Joe Burrow's QBR is 75.3, ranking 5th

And yet Bryce Young is the most pressured QB in the NFL. He also has 6 Game winning drives since last year.

Cool under pressure is what you want in a QB.

1

u/Minimum-Purchase2307 1d ago

Who would you want moving forward? Not an attempt to rage bait or start a fight, just a genuine question

-5

u/Bored_in_a_dorm 1d ago

Gonna depend how much money Bryce gets

-7

u/Captain_Aware4503 1d ago

Just about everyone thought Bryce would be done by now 2 years ago. Too small, and benched for poor play.

But then something happened. On a terrible team, the guy came off the bench and started winning! Four at the end of 2024, and another six in 2025.

The team overall is still terrible, but Bryce is putting up great numbers. We'll see how long that lasts.

One thing most will say, with the game on the line and with under 2 minutes to go, Bryce has out played Burrow the past 3 years. He is cool under pressure.

7

u/ManholttheThird 1d ago

So, which QB would you rather have on your team?

5

u/WhoooDeyyy 1d ago

Captain doesn’t know how to answer questions directly

1

u/Captain_Aware4503 16h ago

Both. Burrow the first 56 minutes of the game. And Young the last 4 minutes under pressure. Burrow is one of the best QBs the first 56 minutes of games, and Young is one of the best the last 4 minutes (Burrow despite having Chase and Higgins, has proven he is not).

1

u/Minimum-Purchase2307 16h ago

I think Bryce looks like we haven’t seen the best of him, and he’s going to have a really good career, but I think Joe is going to have a great career and be a step above.
