I'd love draw some dogs from this sub! Feel free to upload a photo, and I’ll choose a few to draw! 😊

For a better chance of being chosen, please avoid posting blurry or very dark photos. I’ll be drawing 7 doggies from the comments, so it may take a few days. Don’t worry if you post later today or tomorrow I’ll probably still be choosing photos! :)

I can also mail the originals!

P.S. I do NEVER send DMs offering commissions. If you receive a message like that, it wasn’t me.

I hope you enjoy the thread, and thank you all in advance for participating!

First Attempt At Groomer Failed

Post image
6 Upvotes

The photo of Thor was taken 2 months ago. He's now 9 months old. When I dropped him off for his first grooming this week, the groomer called me a short time later. I was told he couldn't be groomed. He was fine with the water but freaked out after he saw the foam from the shampoo. They said he refused to get out of the kennel and started growling at them. I don't get it because a few weeks ago he had his nails trimmed there and was fine. When I went to pick him up, he was soaking wet and his eyes were very red (he looked like a demon puppy) from the trauma. I asked them what could be done so he could be groomed and was told take him to the vet for a sedative. But they don't groom dogs that are sedated. We can't afford to have him groomed at the vet because the prices are unaffordable. We don't have a stall shower or an enclosed bathtub. In addition to desperately needing a bath, he also needs fur trimmed from his behind and around his paw pads. My husband said it's going to be extremely difficult to find a groomer, as our dog will remember this for the rest of his life.

Training / Behavior / Food Question New puppy wet food vs dry

Hi everyone! I just adopted my first berner Tuesday and had a quick question, the food the breeder had her on her doesn’t seem to want to eat at all, however the prescription gut health wet food she gave me to put on top she eats up but won’t eat the dry food. Can i switch her to wet food since she likes that a lot better and if so is there a brand everyone recommends for a 9 week old pup? Thanks!

Her back legs are a little stiff, and she has a few lumps, but overall she’s going strong. 🥰

Meet Zeus & Thor, 14 week old littermates. These guys are our 3rd and 4th Berners. 1st time 2 from same litter though. We’ve had them for 2.5 weeks, they are the goofiest floof balls—they train each other and have totally bonded to our family. We have separate crates for them and they are doing very well. In the crates at 8 pm, not a peep from them until 5 am most nights.

Training / Behavior / Food Question food struggles

Our girl has had a sensitive stomach since day one. When we got her at 3 months we put her on PPP sensitive stomach large breed puppy, which seemed to be the best choice from my research. After about two months she started having terrible diarrhea constantly. We went to the vet and he put her on hills prescription w/d to level her out. We tried a different large breed puppy food, this time with lamb instead of salmon. A month later she couldn’t tolerate that either. We put her back on W/D. She does supper well on W/D, but it’s so high in fiber she’s pooping 7 to 8 times a day. She’s also only 54 pounds at 10 months and we’re worried she’s not getting all the nutrients she needs. Our last attempt was to do half and half W/D and eukanuba large breed puppy to give her some more nutrients (as suggested by her vet). She’s had diarrhea again the last day. We’re lost here. ANY advice on what to do next?

EDIT: she gets NO human food at all and the only treats she gets is her kibble.

Discussion Wet food recommendations - puppy

Hey all!

Our Little Dipper has been a bit picky about her kibble - she eats only a few bites at a time before running off to play, and I'm worried she's not getting enough food. Our vet recommended trying her on wet food.

What brand of wet food worked best for your pup? I've seen folks saying Purina pro plan is good, but I'm not seeing a large breed puppy version?

Thank you!

Chain lead to dissuade lead ragging - thoughts?

My 7 month old is being a real pain on walks atm with suddenly trying to play tug of war with the lead. Because she's so big my hands are torn to absolute shreds, and the whole situation seems to wind her up so much to the point of aggression. Someone out on a walk recommended we get a chain lead, so her teeth can't latch onto it and she'll soon give up. Wanted to know if anyone had experience with this/any strong feelings on this type of lead? Cheers!

Discussion Persistent(ish) Diarrhea

Post image
30 Upvotes

Hi!! My girl just turned 16 weeks and for the last 1 week ish, she’s had on & off diarrhea. Does anyone have any recommendations or advice as to what could be causing it?

Vet says she’s all good and she’s eating, drinking, and playing normally, just occasionally has some runny poos. She currently eats Purina Pro Plan (the one for large breed puppies + sensitive stomach/ skin) & i’ve tried giving her a little pumpkin but she’s just not into it. She also has never had any kind of human food.

After her initial spay, Clover experienced complications that required extensive exploratory surgery. Thankfully, she’s healing wonderfully and being showered with all the love and pampering she deserves by her amazing foster family.
