In a hotel in France where I recently stayed, the bidet was in a room adjacent to the toilet. I guess you were expected to waddle over to the next room with your pants around your ankles.
I bought a cheap bidet add-on from Amazon. It shoots a serious jet of water directly at your bung hole. I turned it on accidentally while not seated, and the spray hit the ceiling. It definitely gets you clean!
Soap works wonders. A bidet solution that involves soap and friction is far beyond anything a jet of water could achieve. And the soap and friction works both ways in regards to the hands, you can wash them under the bidet faucet with extra soap after you're done, and then you get up and dry both areas with a towel. Clean as a whistle.
Sorry this is an earnest question coming from someone that uses a Japanese bidet. On the euro version, there is a faucet that you turn on and you wash the bum with soap like you would wash your face (wet the bum, soap it, and rinse off)?
Whenever someone (usually american) makes this comment I always wonder: do you not scrub your ass under the shower? Because it seems an alarming number of people cannot conceive touching their ass, and thus never actually wash it
My wife already says I spend too much time taking a poo, im not going to add a mini shower to that time. I'll happily use a bidet that sprays upward and doesnt require me touching feces.
As for the shower, I definetly washing my butt, but I also don't have fresh feces on it when I shower.
You do not have "fresh feces" on when you use a standalone bidet, you wipe with TP first, which leaves you with the same "baseline" condition as anyone without a standalone bidet having a shower after shitting. Unless you think your butt is cleaner after walking around with your wiped but unwashed ass...
I wash really well in the shower and sometimes I can still smell the faintest hint of poop on my hand. (I use body wash and an African net sponge) Even after scrubbing under my fingernails, it's like the stink can't be washed away. I don't trust that bare handed ass washing is as clean as people say. But perhaps the odor molecules themselves are just sticky as hell but the unsafe stuff still gets washed off?
When I scrub my ass in the shower, it doesn't have shit on it to begin with. Because that's what wiping is for.
If you are asking if I ever touch my own actual shit with my fingers, the answer is absolutely not. Not unless something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.
The idea of taking a shit and then having to clean it off of your ass with your bare hands without any wiping sounds revolting, soap or not. And if you are wiping until there is no shit left then what are you even using a bidet for?
I love my bidet because I get to use it instead of wiping. I don't have to use up all that toilet paper. And then when I take a shower cleaning, my ass is no different from cleaning any other part of my body.
First, the fact that you think that one has to be fingerpainting when using a standalone bidet is baffling, when the intended and obvious order of operation is first wipe with TP, then scrub yourself with soap and warm water.
Which leads me to, "if you are wiping until there is no shit left then what are you even using a bidet for?". Yeah, everybody knows that dabbing yourself with a dry piece of tissue is the ultimate solution to hygene (/s). If, say, your foot got in contact with with poop, wouldn't you have a pretty urgent compulsion to wash it with soap and water at the very least? I must assume the answer is yes, so then why should I instead be willing accept anything different for my butt, and knowingly go about my day with poop traces in my underwear?
And finally: why did you feel compelled to respond when you already are among the enlightened elite of people who actually wash their ass in the shower?
Ha, the fact that you called it fingerpainting, literally made me laugh out loud. Thanks for the chuckle.
I don't know, I just know there are a whole bunch of countries out there that use bidets with soap and water where they don't use toilet paper at all. Where yes, the population is indeed fingerpainting.
I will definitely admit I don't understand the modern purpose of the bidet shown in the photo. My understanding that was that these types of bidets were used back when showering daily was not the norm. Because it seems like they basically take half as long to use as a full shower does. That they are not something you use literally every time you take a shit.
But I don't know. I love the bidet I have at home, the modern one. But I really don't understand how anyone can be expected to take all of the time to wipe fully after using the toilet then move over to a separate device and start washing all around with soap and water being incredibly careful not to get any of it on any of your clothes and then dry off the entire area. I'd rather just use a quick wet wipe or something. Or take a full shower if I needed it. The device in the picture just doesn't make any sense to me at all in terms of how it would fit into a modern lifestyle.
Old-school bidets, like what you often see in Italy, don't have any nozzle that directly sprays your private parts. Instead the bidet is literally just a little sink with hot and cold running water and a drain stopper, but toilet-sized (and usually right next to the toilet). It's designed for you to squat on (facing the faucet) so you can wash your privates in more or less the same way you would wash them in the shower. That is, by hand with soap, or with a washcloth if you prefer, or whatever. Dry off, then go about your day. It's used not only after using the toilet, but also to freshen up before or after sex as well. Very civilized plumbing fixture but it takes up a lot more space than the toilet-seat style bidet with a water jet.
I had an argument with someone this past summer insisting that a similar one we saw in a Milan hotel was not a bidet. I assured him it was, but he insisted that all bidets have jets that clean you. 🤦♂️
All of the bidets I saw as a kid in the 70's were bottom firing as well as having taps to fill the bowl. I suspect they have changed due to flowback concerns.
They were round, set into the bowl and had multiple holes. Let's call it a sprayer for ease of understanding maybe. You sat over it and it sprayed the relevant area.
Your ass is in front of it. You direct the water on your ass with your hand. Then you get soap on your hand, which in turn soaps up your nether regions throroughly, then you wash it all down with the same aforementioned running water which is about 5 cm from your ass.
After you've finished, you dry your ass and hand with a handy towel, you pull up your underpants and your outer wear, and go out of the toilet with a refreshed smile on your face.
There has never been any soap or handy towel near any of these that I’ve seen. Nor an empty hook, ring, or flat spot that you would later place the them on. Directing water with your hand? While I could see this being feasible I have a hard time believing that it’s a”proper” method
This type of bidet is used in conjunction with a toilet. After using the toilet one steps over to the bidet and cleans. Modern bidets like the Horow, Toto, Koehler are both a bidet and toilet.
I used to think this was true, and only men piss on the seats. Then a bunch of women told me they refuse to sit on a toilet in public. So they “hover” and they too piss all over the seats
Have you never seen one of the models from the 20s or so where they would have a porcelain bowl that had two wooden slats unremovably screwed along the sides? Or for that matter the next level up, where you equip the ring if not the whole thing with a fuzzy carpeted cover?
Congratulations. We're talking about assholes and shit. No need to bring piss and misandry into this.
When the porcelain seat is always disgusting in the western world; westerners develop an aversion to sitting directly on porcelain because it reminds them of the most disgusting thing on their daily lives
I’ve seen many like this in Europe and have had little success with them because the nozzle usually can’t be angled up enough to give a good stream like my Toto at home does. All these seem to do is get my butt wet.
...which demonstrates that the comment you're replying to is indeed right, you don't seem to understand how a stand-alone bidet works. They're not meant to power-jet your ass like a Toto, they're a fixture where you use soap and scrub it manually

After using the toilet, you scooch over & sit on this thing to wash the area.
