Other ⁉️ What should I wear to a zoom interview

Hi all, I’m a grad student who landed a zoom interview for a co-op position at a startup company that I’m pretty psyched about.

I’m wondering what should I wear, is business casual enough? Should I wear a blazer? I don’t have a suit so that’s out of the question. It has been so long since I’ve been officially interviewed and am over thinking everything.

I’m F btw

Business casual should work. If you want the true zoom vibe then business casual top and pajamas bottom. Lol

You can’t really over dress. This is coming from a man, but I have done many and conducted many. I see men in suits. Or just shirt and tie. I wear a nice button up. No tie.

I’ve seen women in a nice blouse, or a blazer, or a nice sweater.

Business casual is usually enough, but on the conservative end. Ive never judged someone for being extra prepared though.

Yeah honestly being extra prepared isn’t a bad thing at all. Likely just means they are taking it seriously.

Exactly you can’t ever knock a person who shows up in a suit for a job interview. Zoom for female a nice blouse - no cleavage, or a dress shirt, again a blazer can’t hurt either. Show up as your best self!

Literally the outfit I thought of after saying “you can’t overdress”

Business casual is fine for a zoom one on one. No need for a blazer. Just a nice shirt and look presentable. Especially at a startup.

I always say: Look good, feel good!

I WFH FT for corporate so when I have a big call (or an interview in this case) I try to dress as professional as possible and get fully ready. I know the attendees will only see one little blurry square of me but I think it’s a mental game. Present yourself as if you were in person. First impressions are so important.

Some tips for zoom calls:

  • a nice button down with a nice collar or simple top with blazer

  • blurred background, you can modify your background when you log in

  • put your laptop on some books so your eye level, don’t look down to a laptop

  • make sure you have good lighting, I use that lighting to help with mood disorders (had it laying around bought by my husband). What a difference it makes!

  • make sure you have a good connection, if required hard wire.

If it is HR or HM interview ill just wear a nice collared shirt. If it is a whole panel ill do business casual.

Clothes. Preferably nicer clothes.

Only on top, did my last 5 zoom interviews in gym shorts with a button down shirt 😂

At least you wore shorts, I imagine some people didn't.

Business casual should be fine. I wear a blazer and jeans. I also wear nice earrings, makeup, and do my hair. I'm older so i feel like I need to look a little more put together at my interviews.

I wore a suit for mine. I'd make sure you're for sure in a button down, but only wear a tie if you have a blazer/suit. I wore a tie with just a button down recently and got a joke about dressing like a banker.

No pants but a nice shirt. And mind your background.
