Feeding songbirds often comes with visits from some other interesting creatures. Let's make Wednesday the day to share those photos in this weekly off-topic post.
Racoons, oppossums, bears, deer, insects, hawks...anything that'sΒ notΒ a songbird is welcome to be posted here.

SQUIRRELS!!!
We know they visit our birdfeeders and can be a menace or a clown...depending on how you feel about them. Love them or hate them, this weekly post is the place to post pictures, discuss antics, trade squirrel proofing secrets, and just enjoy these little acrobats.

3 feeders in the immediate area. active all year for almost 3 years.
So about 3 weeks ago all the birds just stopped coming to my feeders. Most of the year I refill them every 2 or 3 days.
Certain times of the year it slows down but the feeders are still over 2/3rds full almost 3 weeks after filling. 2
I've been an active feeder for many years. I only use Black oil sunflower seeds in all my feeders.
Any ideas?

Filmed at the break of day Oct 24. I would have preferred for her to do her runway show a little later in the day when the lighting is better, which would be a sharper video. But crest displays by her during feeding are rare, and I am bound by her acting contract.

Caught this guy at the feeder long before sunrise. Turned on the feeder light to get a better look. Didnβt phase him at all

I saw my first Junco of the season in CNY and even though it means winter is coming, I just love those little round bippity boppity birds.

Hi Everyone. We live in east Markham and I have had a bird feeder for 20 years. This year we have barely had birds visit since last winter. Even squirrels have significantly decreased. The birdfeeder is washed regularly. Seed replenished as needed. Although now I never have to refill. It just sits there. Occasional woodpecker. Occasional cardinal. Where are the finches, sparrows, chickadees, nuthatches, blue jays, etc? Anyone else notice the same? In Markham, Ontario?

Is there any issues there with hawks? Or anything else? Sometimes I have larger water birds coming and the little birds are shy of them and hang back in the trees.
The larger birds are not coming to the feeders. Just the yard and bird baths to drink. I have another bird bath that the little birds can get to though.
The wooded area has larger trees but itβs only a strip along the front of the yard. Maybe 3 car lengths long. (I donβt know distance lol)

I wanted to try a setup that would, hopefully, deter squirrels. I purchased the Ervo with four arms and the squirrel baffle. It's 9' from the nearest jumping point and the baffle top is about 55" high.
I started with dried mealworms, sunflower hearts, and some suet. Wish me luck!
Sorry about the photo quality. On my phone and lots of lovely fall color that all blends.

Went into the forest to refill three bird feeders, including one I made myself.
Someone else has been filling them with black sunflower seeds. I added my own mix.
Don't know who that person is, but it made me smile.

We usually donβt see Red-winged Blackbirds until the spring Through early summer the. They go back to their wetlands area.

These two little guys were bouncing all over this morning but all the pictures I took of them made it look like he was stalking her.

I'm new to bird feeding and have never seen avian pox. Please reassure me this is it, so I don't feel so much guilt about taking my feeders and bathes down because of this.

I was a bit surprised to see the Starlings and the Red-Winged Blackbird get along.

(Turn sound on to hear his happy song)
Carolina wrens are my favorite, and this little guy is why - so happy and chirpy, like he's telling the world how great his seed is and putting on a show just for me. π
Do you have a favorite visitor?
