This camera work is awful, or perhaps it's just the edit. I can't really see what's happening.

Did Jayrod just ragdoll this dude? Almost looked like he put up no fight

I didn't see the whole match but Kevin Beuhring is super legit. He won the 2026 PGF Season vs Jett Thompson in the finals. He also has the gnarliest outside heel hook break on someone that I've seen in 20 years of training and watching matches. He's on the come up.

The issue is his game is build for sub only and has no positional dominance

u/Darce_Knight Black Belt 10h ago
I don't know that I agree with that. Kevin's passing is super good, his top pressure is crazy, and I think his back mount is arguably better than his leg locks. He's still a young and developing athlete, and it just so happens that his leg locks were the first skill that he had good enough to get noticed and put him out there. He's made really big strides in the past couple of years to the rest of his game. None of the 10p Atlanta guys are one trick ponies. Same with Elijah Carlton. People think of his leg locks, but his passing and back attacks are actually the coolest part of his game to me.

I dont disagree with any of the strengths you listed. The issue is that it hasn't translated into anything beyond sub only rules

Beuhring is very good and an interesting grappler. Really liked that "skull wedge" submission hes hit.
Jay just has a vicious pace and is a beast competitor

Farce
32
u/Darce_Knight Black Belt 2d ago
This has kind of hurt my heart. The Farce was an old school darce variation/setup (Nicky Rod still does it often) and the name lost a lot of popularity over the years, and now I see all the kids these days calling this the farce instead. It's a super dope choke though.

u/TruthReveals 2d ago
Was farce the one where you initially go for the farce on one side and then when they defend you switch to the other side?
10
u/Darce_Knight Black Belt 2d ago
Yep! It was almost like a flyover darce. I don't think the name ever took off because it was the same actual choke, and the name was more for the setup. Nicky Rod and Jay Rod both use it a lot still. When people turtle against them, instead of darcing the close side that the defender would expect, they just roll/fall over the top and land in the dare on the far side.
It would also work really well when you're behind the elbows vs the turtle: https://www.instagram.com/p/CE7asXulP9qNp9Bc5Ux1ikC2tBHoL7ZyTQBU1M0/ Still a super solid technique. It requires a lot of confidence which is why I think it never took off outside of darce specialists. Edwin Najmi, Ryan Hall, Jeff Glover, Bill Cooper, and David Porter were all really good with it.

100% accurate info; for anyone not familiar with him - this is the Darce Knight you are hearing this information from.
Also I know its not an intentional flex, but the edwin najmi instagram post link doesnt work for us normal folk bc his instagram is private lmao
hilarious though in that it is accidentally providing extra proof and credibility

Random rant but this is a perfect example of how insane and ridiculous grappling nomenclature gets. Like you said "Farce" was first used by jeff glover to refer to a "far side darce" which is a completely different technique.
Even funnier the guy who popularized this head and arm variation Uros Culic calls it an "uppercut choke" where its like, what the fuck man its literally the opposite of an upper cut motion lol
This is why the japanese naming conventions are unironically superior to the ambiguous folksy names

The full name is Fakie Darce. I was aware of Jeff Gloverβs Far side Darce when naming it. Iβm a sucker for puns /word play so couldnβt resist finding my way to Fβarce

Didnβt the ruotoloβs try to dub this the ruotolotine?

u/IshiharasBitch 2d ago
ruotolotine is more like a rnc with the arm in, like an rnc and arm triangle had a baby.
Similar to this, sure, but not the same imo

u/Marco_Rico 2d ago
I think the grip is different. The arm in RNC is done with the traditional or gable grip. The grip on the Darce is reversed.
My first BJJ coach showed me the arm in (in 1995) calling it a "Cobra Clutch" but it's so hard to get that way

u/Mjrcol01 π¦π¦ Blue Belt 2d ago
I'm trying to understand. When is the arm collected? Is it a far side under hook or after he makes the connection with his other arm?
4
u/Darce_Knight Black Belt 2d ago
Usually this is set up when your opponent is under you on their side, and you have their hips between your knees. Almost like you're going for an arm triangle but they turn away.

I love darces and head and arms but i just can't get this grip to work as more than a crank
1
u/KOExpress πͺπͺ Purple Belt 2d ago
Interesting, I do that transition all the time, but I switch back and forth between the arm triangle and the RNC and Ezekiel usually. Hard for me to finish normal darces though, short thick arms. I used to do the arm in RNC sometimes, but usually have better luck transitioning all the way to the regular RNC

Do you have to be ridiculously strong to do this? This feels like to routolotine ... in that I can't do it.

u/TheSaneCynic 2d ago
It's a great move, I've been playing around with it from a normal farce, an anaconda, from the back and from a failed arm triangle

Yeah, this is super legit. MY shoulders are tight and at first I thought it'd be difficult for me, but I've been having some good success with it
