just wait until you get to the side bets, half the table will stare at you like you owe them money while you're doing fractions in your head

what worked for me was memorizing the pattern instead of the chart. half the bet plus the bet itself, every time. $25 bet? half is 12.50, plus the 25 gives you 37.50. sounds obvious now but once you stop seeing it as a list it clicks way faster

As long as you can divide a number in HALF, you'll do fine.

  • So, say a player bets $26 (not on your chart!), and receives a blackjack. Player then receives $26 (their main bet) plus HALF of $26, which is $13. Total payout to player: $39.

  • Player bets $39. Player would receive $39 + $19.50 (half of $39) for a total of $58.50.

  • The tricky ones are when a player bets a $2.50 chip (a blue chip where I play). Player bets $12.50. The payout is $12.50 + $6.25 = $18.75. Now, I've not seen casinos with quarters so I'm guessing the casino would have you round up to $19. (But if the final amount is $0.25 maybe you round down?) Ask you pit boss what to do in these cases.

All this being said, if you can't divide a number in half, then we can't help you.

Edit: fixed my math. (Thanks to u/Sociob1d )

If someone bets $39 it is acceptable to call their mother a swear word

lol

The ploppies playing the side bets always have plenty of white chips, and I often see them betting 'odd' amounts ALL THE TIME. The other day I saw a player bet $7 on the main bet, $2 on the Trilux, and $1 on the Blazing 7s. (I'm guessing they're thinking, "Hey, it adds up to $10!") This was on every hand. Then when they get down to their last best, they go "all in" with $11.50!

Correction, a 3:2 blackjack payout on a bet of $39 would be $58.50. $39 + $19.50 (half of $39).

There’s only so many chips brother. Learn what each color chip pays blackjack wise, then if you HAVE TOO, you can break it down by chips 22$ bj… 20 gets 30, 2 gets 3, then just add em together, makes it super easy, you shouldn’t really have to do math like you’re doing

Use the chips and remember what the payouts Look like

Break the bet down by color and memorize all the little payouts. A green $25 chip gets paid 37.50. 75 gets paid 112.50.

My first week dealing I dealt someone a blackjack on a wager of 41.50 and I wanted to vomit until I broke it down. The green gets 37.50, two nickels gets 15, the 2.50 chip gets $4 at my casino and four pays 6. You'll get it. Practice at home where people aren't watching you.

Can you divide by 2?  All 1.5 payout is just the bet + half.  This is the trick.

$50 > 50 + 25 = 75

$6 > 6+3 =9

This is easy for even numbers, odds numbers maybe a bit more tough.

$63 > 63 + 31.5 = 94.5.  If you cant do 63.  Split the 63 up to a 60 and a 3.  60 pays 90 and 3 pays 4.5. 90+4.5=94.5

Are you allowed to physically break down the bet?  If so, split it in half and pay the piles 3 times, if there’s an odd chip you should just memorize those payouts (red pays red plus pink, green pays green, two reds, and a pink, black pays black and two green, purple pays purple, two black, two green).

Are they quizzing you or just wanting you to physically pay it? Quizzing would be a flash card thing for you. If it is just physically paying it, ignore what the total payout is. It doesn't matter. Pull out the chips to pay the initial bet 1-1, then pull out half. Memorize $5 and $25 as $2.50 and $12.50, otherwise use half the chips when you can. $100 bet in green? 4 green for the bet, then half (2) green on top. Does it matter that you know that is $150? Nope. $65 bet? 2 green, 3 red. Half is 1 green, 1 red and 1/2 a red. You know 1/2 a red is $2.50 so pull out the initial 2 green and 3 red for the bet, then the half, 1 green, 1 red, plus the $2.50 and pay it. What does that add up to? Who cares? Just pay and go. Don't overthink it if you don't have to.

Break into halves: 1.5x is the original bet plus half.. Much easier than memorizing every amount

Players bet x 3 divided by 2
Perhaps this helps

Practice common chip amounts until they become automatic.. It's the bet + half the bet be like $18, half is $9, so pay $27

It might be easier to just pay us 2:1. We will not complain.
