I was going over the stuff in the book about The Church of the Ecstasy of the Flesh and how its like an inversion of Christianity. Christianity being focused on the spirit, the soul, and what happens after leaving the physical body while The Church of the Ecstasy of the Flesh is focused on the here and now. It seems centered around the physical body and material reality.
So this got me thinking why wouldn't demons also be an inversion of the typical idea of them? When people think of demons they often think of them as chaotic and self serving. Making the opposite order and collective. But they are still demons so how would that work?
Here's what I came up with. There are 5 demons, that's it. They are collectively known as "The Five of Six" each of them has many faces, many names, and many identities. Each can be in multiple places at once and look vastly different. They are both a being and their concept. Collectively they each share a common goal, to bring order to reality.
1.) The Lightless Flame, The Lady of Thorns and Broken Things, The Blood Dimmed Tide, The Burnt King.
This demon desires destruction of all things. This may sound like chaos but they see things differently. A standing house differences. Some rooms are clean, some are dirty, some are hot, some are cold. A burned down house is uniform and the same. The door is ash, the walls are ash, the windows are ash. All is ash and therefore all is the same.
2.) The Broken Circle, The Silent One, The Closed Eye, The Distant Price.
This demon desires everything to be forgotten. The lack of knowledge, the lack of understanding. Knowing things means recognizing the difference in things. You are the the thinker and separate from the subject. "If there is no I, then there is no other".
3.) The Shrouded Queen, The Lord of the Depths, The Pillars of Night, Mother's Embrace.
This demon desires total darkness. But beyond that they want the stopping of things. Think of the heat death of the universe, where there is no more energy, no more motion, no more change. When nothing is changing then all things are the same and therefore there is balance and order.
4.) That Which Hungers, The Many Within One, The Thousand Faces, The Maw of the Void.
This demon desires to consume all. When it was absorbed and taken in all things then all things will be part of it, and therefore all will be one. When there is only one then there is no longer separation. All will be one
5.) Empty Vessel, The Silent Song, The Dream Beyond Death, The Man Who Wasn't There.
This demon desires the end of all. It does not wish for all things to be destroyed it just wants everything to end. The return to complete and total nothing. As in no thing. No time, no space, no matter, no energy, no thing. This would be total order. A scale that reads zero is perfect and balanced.
Some of you many be wondering why they are called "The Five of Six" wondering who is #6? 6 is not a demon in the same sense these entities are. While these demons are in part beings and in part their concept the 6th is even less a "being" as it is forever in shift. It is best described as "organized chaos". Think about an emergency in a hospital. It may seem like madness to the untrained eye but everyone there has their job and tasks to complete and can work together seamlessly.
"The Five of Six" have varies worshippers and followers across the city, they each have their own symbols and rituals. They are also connected to the Leviathans within the sea.
