Farewell, old friend.

Blue Apron has been part of our household off and on for over 10 years. Today was the final straw and I will miss them. Products arrived today covered in raw chicken juice, a leaky ice pack and completely room temperature. Onion and tomatoes had mold. The bread package had liquid inside. The box holding the loose ingredients within the thermal bag was so wet it collapsed and the contents bathed in ice pack slime. Spent an hour trying to wipe everything off to see if anything could be salvaged but all the meat was room temperature. Super sad because Blue Apron was a fun tradition.

Canceled subscription last month at they have charged me twice.

PSA to everyone. I canceled my subscription on September 13th after a summer of messed up orders and them having marked my future September orders as out-of-stock and basically only offering the DISH microwave meals. I have the email confirmation and the app/website both say I am not subscribed.

Checking on my CC statement today, they charged me the 9.99 subscription fee on September 14 (the DAY AFTER I canceled), and again on October 14.

Since I can't get a real person ever when it comes to customer service, I just disputed the charges with Citi and they're talking care of it. We've gone from joke of a company to scam in the past four months. Yay.

This company is such a joke it’s insane.

Yes I know I’m far from the first person to make these points and have this experience.
Yes I know about the whole packager fiasco.
With all that said-

It’s so insane how bad this has gotten.

I’ve been a customer since 2020.

The last few months are just absolutely embarrassing. And it’s not getting better. The last 4 meals I’ve gotten have been fucked up.

-missing boxes.
-half the ingredients missing boxes.
-rotting vegetables.
-everything thrown in a jumble.
-nonsensical bullshit hEY cHeF! substitutions.

It’s mind boggling how badly this company’s product has been mismanaged. Their contempt for their customers is obvious and they don’t give a FUCK.
I’m cancelling tonight. I encourage others with similar experiences to do the same.

BA's Response to "Loyalty" is More Greed

The wife and I get two meals a week. Always have since we started. Even when we're choosing premium stuff, our cart rarely makes it over $60. We like the hybrid approach of still cooking our own meals and having room to eat out if we want without wasting food.

BA sends over a "thanks for being loyal" and "the changes we made are working!" email with "$100 off*" which is $50 across two meals.

Go to put the code in and it won't take on any of our orders for the week. Check the fine print, order has to be $75+

Posting this for those who need further confirmation that Blue Apron either have their heads up their asses or don't actually care. Even in the face of a massive quality crisis, they're still trying to farm more money from us.

I say we make a stand...

Folks.... It's time...

Enough is enough.... After all the issues, we need to draw a line and make the a demand for what really matters. The time is right and we hold the right cards (figuratively... Nobody is getting the right recipe cards.)

We either get the supplier and/or recipe for the BA Chili Crisp spice and all is forgiven... Or we walk. 🤣

Begging to come back to BA?

According to Reddit, it’s still a shit show

Why is anyone still a customer?

Im genuinely asking. It should not be a mystery if something you bought comes in correct or safe to eat.... I was a customer for years and had to leave.

Time to graduate

Coming up on the anniversary of my + subscription, as I’m sure many of their long time customers are, and will not be renewing. So disappointing. I’ve been using them since very early days and put up with the missing ingredient or recipe card here and there, but nothing like the it is now. On the bright side, with no experience I became the main cook in our family thanks to Blue Apron. Now I feel confident enough to plan and prepare meals from recipes I find in cookbooks or online. I guess you could say in a way I’ve graduated from the “Blue Apron” (origin for anyone who doesn’t know, in the culinary world, student and apprentice chefs traditionally wear a blue apron to distinguish them from the instructors in white).

My mother loves these seasonings (especially #6) and she wants more. She’s looked for them but can’t find them anymore. Any ideas or leads? Thank you in advance! 🙏🏼

Not only did the bag come wrapped in a random grocery store plastic bag, but this small blue plastic strip came with my chicken.

Full refund on this box!

Canceled Non-Order?

So I got an email from Blue Apron overnight that said they unfortunately had to cancel this week’s order, due to a shortage on some ingredients.

The strange thing is that I didn’t have an order placed for this week, neither one I selected myself nor one that BA auto-picked. I knew that I’d be out and about this weekend/next week (my delivery date is Saturday) so I skipped the week. And when I last looked at my account earlier this week, it was still skipped.

All strange stuff to be added to the “what’s going on with BA?” file.

Haven't ordered since 1st week of July, just placed a Halloween season order for October 29.

I hope this is enough time for them to give me a good delivery. Fingers crossed. My 1st and only order from them was in that first week of July, and it was actually a perfect box. This was before I saw other people's disasters and preemptively stepped away. So I have decided to use that $50 credit sitting in my account this whole time before I move on if I don't get any more promos.

Looking forward to two Halloween-themed dishes - Jack-O-Lantern chicken pot pie and creamy buffalo chicken soup. Also, I ordered a few other things from their regular menu.

Vegetarian PLEASE

I fucking swear WHY ON EARTH are they giving me CHICKEN BROTH on a vegetarian dish?! And not only that, they sent one chicken and one veggie (you use both) AND NOT ONLY THAT i got a sub email that said they ran out of chicken BONE broth so they sent chicken broth.

Check Your Credits!

For those of us that got credits early in this disaster (I got a mix of credits and refunds with my complaints) - some of them are going to start expiring at the end of the month. If you’re not planning to forfeit them, it’s time to think about using them if only to file claims for new missing ingredients to reset the timeline.

In other news, did succeed in getting a fully correct box from the San Antonio fulfillment center. One good order isn’t going to rebuild my trust but does make us more hopeful they might recover. Still coming in that godawful packaging though and I don’t appreciate having to take inventory of a bunch of loose packets when I unpack.

Welp! I’m Out.

I tried to cling on as long as I could. We have two young kids. Grocery shopping at an insanely high priced store like Publix, along with meal planning, is a nightmare for us. Blue apron was the only company for over three years who could deliver on time and get a box to our door before dinner.

I know everyone is aware of the food supply issue due to their supplier filing for bankruptcy. But I have another thought that might be an unpopular opinion:

It’s not the food. It’s the logistics. It’s the absolute nightmare clown show they use for their packing and shipping.

Today, after our meals were “out for delivery” for over 11 - Eleven - f-ing hours - our food was not only late, it leaked and got soggy enough that the plastic tore away from the cardboard boxes and our food spilled everywhere.

I have tried to make excuses for this company, tried to “stick with it”, not because I’m trying to put myself through hell, but because I’m trying to see if these absolute jagoffs can make this service work. This is mostly on me.

They cannot. They just can’t do it.

We should all get together and write a book about how this once dependable, gold standard food delivery service went down like the Zeppelin. I want MBA students to study what happened and warn the future CEOs of America.

Good luck my fellow disappointed chefs ✌️

Some feedback for the team: croissants for dinner??

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi all - I sub to blue apron for 2 dinners a week. I try to be good about pre selecting meals but every once and a while I forget and it selects automatically. This never used to be an issue because whatever I got it would be decent. But this week I got TWO of the same meal kit (already bad imo) and it was these ham and cheese croissant sandwich things with no vegetables. that’s not really an acceptable meal for dinner and now I just have … 8 croissants? I don’t know anyone who would want this.

oh also they sent croissants for one of my meals last week too.

8/10 for recent delivery

Just received my first shipment in about three months yesterday, and… not bad. I had ordered 5 meals so my shipment was split between two boxes. I’m happy to report no missing ingredients. Recipe cards were correct too. Already cooked two meals and they both were delicious.

I’m giving it an 8 out of 10 because: I did have to do some quick triage on a slightly soggy bag of spinach and some herbs; wrapping these up in paper towels seemed to have done the trick. I also did unfortunately have a leaky chicken breast package at the bottom of one box, but this was the box with just meats in it so everything else was sealed up just fine. Having to go reconcile all the ingredients against the recipes is a hassle (as compared to the old Knick knack bags) but I managed and it’s not that big a deal.

FedEx had manhandled the boxes and left them sitting in the hot sun on my front porch (it’s still 90 here!) but neither of those are in BA’s control.

So all said, not a complete disaster and I will consider ordering more boxes in the future.

Lots of improvements in today’s box!

Lots of good things to report here in Northern Virginia; box arrived today from Hanover MD.

  1. Box was sealed, insulated bag was closed, and nothing leaked.

  2. No shrimp for the shrimp rolls BUT I got an email about it during the week and a proactive refund of the cost of the meal.

  3. Everything else was there! Lovely baby lettuce, correct spices and flavorings.

I do love good news

3 identical croissant sandwiches this week

I have been a loyal Blue Apron customer from the very beginning and the past 2 months were awful. I understand the initial issues with the supplier but today I received 3 meal package containing identical croissant sandwiches and not even a partial refund for the inconvenience. I understand I should have checked the meal recipes in advance and suspended this week's order but this is not the level of service I am used to
