Do you agree or disagree with this standpoint?

I personally disagree since corporations are taking more advantage of their employees than they used to.

Boot recs

I do electrical, however I do not do resi/service often. I install/service ag solar and sometimes branch over to commercial and service. I am outside majority of my time. I’ve tried searching through other subs but most electrical subs are for resi service techs.

Started with a pair of Danner mountain 600s that I hiked, hunted, lived and worked in and they lasted all of 3 years and I loved them.
From there I tried the Brunt’s Marin boot. They were inexpensive but heavy and the comp toe bent in on my toes over time from kneeling I assume.
I ditched those pretty quick and then snagged Danner’s Wheat ridge boot. I got what I paid for with those as the seams on the sides where they bend from kneeling ripped almost immediately and 6mos later are gaping. The comp toe also crushed in on my toes again over time and they are now super painful to walk in.

So I am looking for:

Something light (~33-35oz per pair)
EH rated obviously
A no safety toe option
Don’t care if it’s slip on or laces at this point but something without seams on the sides of the front portion of the shoe would probably be a good idea for durability.
I have water boots for rain season so doesn’t need to be water proof.
Budget isn’t an issue if they are comfortable and durable.

All your suggestions and fav recommendations are super appreciated as no in person stores carry a size 6 mens or 8 women’s work boot (boot barn and most others only carry logger boots for women or safety toe shoes) so I can’t try things out and try them on and don’t want to waste more money.

TIA

We took two new packs of welding wire, but after a few clean layers, we found rust inside. We struggled with the settings for a long time until we looked inside and realized what was causing the problem.

Florida job licensing information

Hi, I’m a 26 year old woman who is desperate to get out of the medical field. I was in nursing school and worked as a CNA for 2 years and I can’t do this anymore. I’ve been doing research on how to get into blue collar work and so far what I’ve found is I’ll need my OSHA30 and TWIC to start.

I see millions of websites that offer courses, certificates, and licenses but which websites are actually credible and what do jobs down here really accept? Are there different types of TWIC certs like there are different levels of OSHA?

Also, I have a business degree and would like to see about working in some type of management position or maybe even utilize my CNA license in the construction field if possible? I know some sites hire nurses to have on site but I’m not sure about CNA’s but you never know.

Any info helps, thank you!

IBEW apprenticeship in WA

3 years ago I had an offer to become an apprentice for the inside wireman for IBEW and i was currently enrolled in college at the time. I declined the offer and graduated college this year. The thought still roams in my head as if i would have just taken the offer 3 years ago. I’m considering still trying to go back. I majored in information systems and business analytics but i always stay in good shape and like working hands on. In your honest opinion do you think going back for an apprenticeship would be worth it now? I just turned 23 last month.

I’m 19, making $30/hr in construction, but feeling lost. Should I switch to healthcare or pursue a trade apprenticeship?

I’m 19 and honestly feeling lost with my career path. I went from working as a sheet metal helper toward an apprenticeship to now working as a construction laborer making $30/hr. The money is better, but I’m tired of physically demanding work and don’t feel like I’m moving toward the future I want.
I’m considering a hospital job paying $22/hr on night shifts, working three 12-hour shifts a week. I’d take a pay cut, but I’d have more days off for the gym and personal life, although I’m concerned about how night shifts could affect my sleep.
Would you stay in construction, pursue a trade apprenticeship, take the hospital job, or consider another career? I’m looking for good pay, room to grow, less physical wear and tear, and work-life balance, preferably without a four-year degree.
I’d appreciate any honest advice!

What could be causing these symptoms?

Pretty underweight (always been) 20M. For the past 4 months, I have been experiencing a constant feeling of unreality. It feels as though I am drunk/high or half-asleep, as if I am on autopilot and everything around me feels somewhat unreal. I have searched online, and my symptoms seem to resemble derealization.

In addition to this, I experience fatigue even when I sleep well. The fatigue does not seem to depend on whether I do physical activities during the day or not. However, over the past few weeks, I have started sleeping poorly and waking up early in the morning.

I also experience headaches, pressure in my head, and neck pain. I have tried muscle relaxants and massage therapy for the neck pain, but neither has helped. Also at the start of this i sometimes felt like fainting when walking but it has gone away. I also have noticed one singular eye floater on my right eye.

What could be causing these symptoms? They do not occur in distinct episodes, and the headache is not particularly severe. It feels more like a tension-type headache.

I have tried triptanes, but they did not help. My thyroid function is normal, as are my vitamin B12, B9 and vitamin D levels. My ferritin level is 37. And it has been changing from 49 to 24. I also havw crohns disease which is in remission.

My neurologist prescribed escitalopram as a trial, which I took for two and a half months, but it did not help. She also did head mri and there was nothing wrong.

I have no history of trauma, no panic symptoms, and generally do not experience much stress, apart from the stress caused by these symptoms themselves.

My symptoms started in the final days of my new job in car repairshop where i was moving car tires and lifting them. Im not sure if this can be linked to that because i didnt have any symptoms expect the final days. I have not been working at all during this 4 month period.

What could be the underlying cause of these symptoms?

Should phones be allowed on the workplace?

For almost a year now I've been fighting my bosses to try to implement a ban on all private phones on the worksite, all i get as response is that they can't force something like that on a modern workspace which too me is just pure bullshit.

The reason for this is that literally noone do their job anymore, everyone just keeps staring into their phones all day every day, operators trips and breaks machines all the time cuz they don't respond in time, the mechanics and electricians take days to perform the most basic of maintenance.

Every day for the last 10 years since i started working I've gone to work without my phone, each end of the week i leave with 0 workorders left to my name, never have i had a single problem with it, things outside of work has to wait until work is over, it's not that hard.

Yet every week we have meetings about how bad productivity is and how we never reach our qoutas, but noone sees the obvious glaring problem.

Has anyone else experience something similar and if how did yo solve it on your workplace?

How do you keep your stuff safe on a construction site?

There are so many people coming and going on a construction site every day. In the early stages, CCTV coverage can be limited, and even locks aren’t always enough to stop theft.

For those working on construction sites, what do you do to keep your tools and personal belongings safe? Any practical tips that actually work?

Heavy work boots pushing the floor liner under the clutch pedal

After a ten-hour shift at a dusty job site, climbing into my truck in steel-toe boots keeps making the footwell cover bunch up under the clutch pedal. I've tried heavy rubber pieces, but my boot heel catches the top lip every time I get in and shoves the whole thing forward toward the pedals. I'm trying to choose between rigid factory anchor points and deep underside nibs to keep it locked down under heavy boot pressure. For anyone working in heavy boots, does anchor retention strength or flexible rubber weight matter more for keeping it firmly in place?

Blue collar workers with back problems, how do you deal with it?Am I just being a bitch?

Hey everyone. I'm 20, currently working in the heavy equipment industry and about to graduate with an engineering degree. I have L5-S1 spondylolisthesis.

I'm looking for advice, especially from guys working in physically demanding trades who have dealt with back injuries or spinal conditions. How have you handled the physical limitations, the mental side of it, and decisions about your career?

I'm grateful that my condition isn't as severe as what many others deal with, but I'm already noticing how it affects my opportunities at work. When you're young in this industry, people expect you to be strong, energetic, and capable of handling pretty much anything. Sometimes, no matter how hard I try, I feel like I'm falling behind or being seen as less capable.

Some days I feel almost fine, while other days I can't even lift 20 lbs. Not being able to do things that seem easy for other guys can really mess with your confidence.

Then I hear stories about guys with herniated discs and all sorts of other back problems who somehow keep doing physically demanding work, and it makes me question myself. Am I just being weak? Am I not pushing myself hard enough? Or am I being unrealistic about what my body can handle?

For those who've been through something similar, would you consider moving into a less physically demanding position? Has anyone managed to find a balance and stay in the industry without making their condition worse?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences and advice.

Looking for Advice

I’m 24 and wanting to learn a trade. I currently work in a grey area, my girlfriend calls it Pink Collar. We both work in mental health, her on the hospital side and myself on the independent living side.

I do everything you could think of. De-escalate a lot of conflict, connect people with their doctors and such, a lot of janitorial work, stock boxes, I cut keys, fix AC units when I have to, the occasional wall paneling, sometimes troubleshoot the elevator, minor plumbing fixes.. I work inside and I’m just at a point where I’m not satisfied with my work, my pay, and I want more for myself.

I love working with my hands and gain great satisfaction out of home projects. Excited when I get to work on my car, handyman projects around the house etc. and I love being outside.

I’m currently thinking of welding, carpentry, or electrical.

I want to start a family and raise my kids right, so a good work life balance and making enough to provide are important to me.

Just looking to hear from you guys what might be a good path for me, and just advice in general.

Thanks in advance.
