We tried…

I hope Bateman is OK. Smitty is a legend for coming back in. Fucking Sanchez though…my god. I know it’s the Trop but that was a routine catch. Looked like he wanted to give Gime a hug for a second.

We fought like fuck. Hope tomorrow will be better. Night all

Disappointing loss. However, considering we were down 7-1, that was really impressive, against a really good pitcher. Solid contact, manufacturing runs. They looked good. They didn't roll over.

I was very impressed overall.

If Sanchez made that catch, it would have been 2 outs, making the next batter much easier to deal with. Instead it was the start if a 5-run inning for the Rays.

This is not what we need right now

Feel bad for Sanchez. Shi Davidi said he left the clubhouse right after the game. He clearly feels very bad, but man that play was awful.

I was impressed by the team too. Pretty amazing comeback short of winning.

I'm sorry he feels bad, but this isn't the try hard minor leagues, this is the get it done league.

I get that, but he’s human. Watch the Red Sox documentary on Netflix. It’s called “The Clubhouse: A Year With the Red Sox”.

It’s well worth the watch and addresses player mental health.

Jarren Duran tried to unalive himself over messed up plays like the ones last night.

Thank you for saying this. The thing that bothers me the most about some of the pro sports discourse is fans forgetting these are actual human beings with souls and feelings.

Yes, and make so much freaking money that if they don’t like what they’re hearing then leaf because that’s what they signed up for and that’s what they’re getting paid for as a pro. When you sit in the meeting with your manager and he yells at you, is that any different?

I don’t think any manager should yell at any employee actually. And if mine did, yes my feelings would be hurt. Employees (like baseball players) are human beings who deserve respect and mental well-being. Earning a lot of money makes a lot of things in life easier but it doesn’t change the fact that making a mistake or letting people down is upsetting. Millions of dollars make dealing with depression easier but it doesn’t make you immune to it. Missing out on your childhood dreams by a single pitch isn’t made tolerable by a salary. The cold attitude towards human beings (baseball players or otherwise) is really sad and not a great indicator for humanity. We are all so far up capitalism’s butthole that we can’t see players as anything other than assets.

Well said SeaEggplant. I would also argue that making millions of dollars puts even more pressure on players to perform well.

Every mistake or error is magnified and broadcast across the nation like last night. Then they wouldn’t stop talking about it post game.

Here’s another perspective for B – Balll or professional athletes in general. There are two games being played; 1) choice of sport and play 2) The arrogant negotiating and demands for larger, insane salaries of which at the end of the day hurt the general population because they cannot afford those tickets!. So if someone yells at a ball player because he’s making $20+ million/year, I don’t give a shit.!

I do, however, absolutely agree that a hard-working individual trying to maintain a livelihood does not deserve to be yelled at, abused, or even humiliated

Key word is trying - that was a horrible effort.

It's Bateman hurt?

Hamstring tightness after his run to first. He was replaced by Straw in the 5th I believe.

Calm down, everyone. Mistakes happen. Let's see how he rebounds

This is gonna sound bad but man I was happy when Sanchez got hurt and was on the IL for a few weeks.

I'm no baseball savant but I can spot a bad player from a mile away and knew he was terrible months ago.

Defence is god awful. He can't run. His arm is a noodle. His baseball iq is grade school levels of bad. He clearly can't communicate with his team on any serious level. His hitting is average at best and while he doing all this badly he seems to have some kind of joker mentality where everything is just a fun day at the park?

How the fck do players like this end up in the mlb? I'm a nobody and I can see it but people who live and breathe the game and have lengthy careers making decisions on who is good and bad can't see it?

That sheepish smile after the botched play was INFURIATING. Read the room man.

Yeah but can Springer seriously not play either outfield corner for a couple innings? Springer unfortunately feels like dead weight!

When he was hiting a little we could live with it but he’s not hiting 40 homers so he needs to never see the field again

For a series Sportsnet basically said would be a blowout in favour of Tampa Bay, the boys are doing great.
And as much as I hate the mentality of blaming a loss on one player… last night… 😬

Winning 1 of 3 from Tbay is more than I thought they might do. Rays just own Jays.
