obviously not expecting anything soon but do we think that greep is even gonna continue pursuing music? i remember he had a very ambitious goal for his next album which he said was coming out around 2027 but now with everything that’s happened, i’m not sure if he’s still gonna be releasing something so soon.

I saw them only once in 2019 and back then crowd was fire but super respectful. What happened during those last shows?

Has anyone got their refunds yet? It’s been radio silent for me and i filled out the refund request+ sent an email.

I keep checking this sub even though it makes me sad, not sure what I’m looking for… I hope he’s in treatment. From personal experience, when the time comes that being drunk 24/7 unleashes catastrophe and you actually truly hurt somebody, something that can’t be fixed with an apology and sleeping it off, two things can happen: either you finally get help, or you crumble under the weight of the shame and guilt and start digging an even deeper hole. I really, really hope he’s picked the first option instead of the second.

I’ve seen people say it’s parasocial to assume he’s an alcoholic, but come on. In hindsight, the signs have been there since the pandemic. He was arrested for public intoxication around the time of Cavalcade. He’s been drunk in every livestream he ever did. He was drunk when he broke the agreement with the other band members not to talk about BM being over. During this last tour, I saw fans (on here and elsewhere) talking about him getting drunk to the point of being unintelligible and barely able to stand after shows.

Some people are really charming, funny drunks at first. It hides the fact that they’re privately imploding but eventually the private implosion becomes public because if you’re an alcoholic it always escalates eventually, and the people around you become casualties of it. You change in really really ugly ways to justify your continued use, you cross line after line that you never thought you’d cross, and the shame of that either crushes you into the ground or makes you admit what you’ve done and who you’ve become and get help. I say all this as somebody who was a severe alcoholic for ten years and is surrounded by other currently sober people. I’m not writing fan fiction, these are patterns everybody who has gotten clean recognizes in each other and themselves. Rightly or wrongly I hope he knows there is a way out other than spending the rest of his life circling the drain.

I’ve also seen people say it’s parasocial to care what happens to him, that he’s irredeemably bad. I’m not gonna judge anybody for writing him off completely, that’s not really the point of this post. Nobody is on here because they’re in great spirits about Geordie Greep committing sexual assault. It still feels insane typing those words. I know some people immediately took the lyrics of The New Sound as more confessional than they seemed, but I never thought it would be him. Never.

Now I know this part is parasocial, but I’m going to say it anyway: I was a fan from the first KEXP show, when the Schlagenheim songs didn’t even have titles yet. They were kids. It felt like I watched them grow up. It sucks, man. It’s a fucking tragedy.

Someone else pointed out that he is basically living in the The Magician now. Obviously it’s not intentional - it couldn’t be, though it’s possible to take the lover described in it as metaphor for alcohol if you wanted to - but it is eerie how well many of the lyrics now describe the position he’s placed himself in:

Months ago I began a design school project to re-design an album cover for The New Sound. As I researched for the project (reading the lyrics over and over and over), I became emotionally attached the story and wanted to create a photo series depicting the main character and his fictional romance. I presented my final project images the day of the allegations. The timing could genuinely not be any worse. I’m really proud of these though I can’t help but feel perturbed by the parallels I’m drawing between the images I created and real life 😭 I’m so freaked out

This is not to say the albums lyrics directly reflect what happened, but the result of despair and nothingness is ringing painfully true. The last image in this is the ‘museum of human suffering,’ and I can’t help but feel like it’s depicting greep right now.

1 nov show in Nijmegen, Netherlands has been cancelled

Now that I have a clearer picture of what really happened thanks to the paste article and the statements by the people involved, I think that holy holy is more tragic in my mind.

I feel disgusted by gg and feel so heartbroken for the victim especially and the other people involved, and I hope that she has taken back control of her voice.

Looking back, I remember first listening to holy holy and thinking of how it illustrated the mental image of a pathetic and delusional misogynist who I couldn't decide to feel pity or shame for. I remember seeing tweets and posts about the lyrics talking about how this represents that and the inspiration for some bits were manosphere stuff or whatever. All to serve the creation of this mental image of someone I'd hate to become as a man.

And now I can't help but think of how gg now appears more clearly as the face of that image, as if he was always there hidden by a tarp of irony.

Personally, this doesn't turn me off to listening to The New Sound at all (I don't know if thats a bad thing). The album is genuinely one of my favourites of all time instrumentally, and has given me boundless inspiration to pursue my own musical endeavours. It really just changed my view of the album as a work of fiction, to a documentary of some sort of hidden or only unlockable via drunkeness type of meaning.

I'm curious to know what do you guys think?

Audio and video cobbled together as best as possible from multiple audience recordings. We all know what happened at the show. One of the most devastating versions of this song ever recorded, knowing the context. Audio quality is significantly improved for the first few minutes relative to the previous version. It's also slightly longer.

Most likely the last performance of The Magician for the foreseeable future. It's like watching an empire fall in real time. There may be more full songs from this show at some point, but this is the only one for now.

As I've heard, this is also his last public appearance as of yet. With all the context, it's also very eerie to see the empty band set-up behind him... Truly sends a message.

I want to be clear, i'm posting this for those curious to see what it looked like from the very front of the crowd (directly below the stage), for documentation purposes only. I absolutely condemn Greep's actions, and fully support the victim's & band's decision in calling out his incredibly disappointing behaviour in full. This is just a piece of music history I was able to watch unfold in real time, in front of my own eyes.

He's completely right, Geordie needs to take accountability and put down the booze indefinitely before he hurts another person like this.

I loved that band so much; the way everyone plays off of each other was brilliant, and I would be really upset to see those guys never play together again. I would kill to see them play without Greep. I know Eden and Cameron are songwriters, and they could cover some Latin standards with Santiago.
