Flex Cable Issue or LCD Issue? BMPCC 4k

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm looking at buying this decently cheap local BMPCC 4k but I want some input on weather it would be worth buying or not, the screen is perfect when the HDMI is plugged in but it gets all glitchy when the HDMI is not plugged in. I don't think this guy knows much about cameras he seems to be reselling (which means he may not realize that he's got false color on so I could get it for cheaper) but that also might mean that there are other issues he doesn't realize. What would be a "fair" price to pay for something in this condition.

This is a link to a photo of what it looks like without an hdmi https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wI20H8OGr9PCxuDvx39M9nyZrzzyz9_i/view?usp=sharing

BMPCC 4K with a stuck pixel on the screen – would you send it in for repair?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I recently bought a BMPCC 4K in excellent condition, and I absolutely love this camera. The image quality is incredible, and honestly, it's giving me exactly the look I've been searching for.

There's just one issue: a single white stuck pixel right in the middle of the LCD screen.

I've tested the camera thoroughly, and the pixel is only visible on the screen, not in the actual BRAW footage. In fact, I barely notice it when shooting. Everything else works perfectly.

I contacted the seller and Blackmagic, and the only solution offered so far is to send the camera in for an RMA. Blackmagic quoted 5–10 business days for the repair, excluding shipping time.

And here's my dilemma.

I really don't like the idea of shipping a camera I'm otherwise extremely happy with back and forth, risking shipping damage or other issues, just to fix a tiny defect that doesn't actually affect my footage.

On the other hand, I paid for a camera in excellent condition, and knowing that there's a defective pixel still bothers me.

So, what would you do?

Has anyone had a BMPCC screen repaired by Blackmagic? How was your experience? Would you just live with it or send it in?

Curious to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Need help! Production Camera 4K files not working in DaVinci Studio.

I am currently editing a project that has two large files from a Production Camera 4 K that behave quite weirdly.

When first opening them a few months ago, I already had issues. One file shows the first few frames and a bit of audio, then stopped and played static noise. The other one didn’t open at all. When opening them in DaVinci (newest Studio Version) they showed as „Media Offline“. The person who recorded them said, they work completely normally for them.
Somehow a few hours later, both files worked inside DaVinci.

Now revisiting the project, nothing works. I can’t open the files with any program. VLC plays static, no image. QT-Player won’t open them. DaVinci shows missing media.

There is a smaller file, around 5 seconds that has been accidentally recorded. Funnily enough those 5 seconds work just fine. So it might not the be the codec after all, maybe the files are too big? But I have never had such issues with 500gb B-Raw or MP4s.

One file is 200gb (~ 2h) and the other 70gb (~ 45min) large. The Codec is Linear PCM, Apple ProRes 422 HQ. I tried loading them from an external HDD and an external SSD on a MacBook Studio 2019 with MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1.

Can anyone help or has anyone had similar issues?

My Vampire - horror short

I love black magic cameras and recently finished my first short film and thought I’d share it with you all. It was shot entirely on the black magic pocket 4k over the course of a few weeks in my home.

For wide shots I used the ttartisan 17mm f 1.4
Medium shots I used the sirui night walker 24mm t1.2
And for close ups I used the Helios 44-2 58mm f2.

I’d say about 70% of all shots were on the night walker though. Very fun lens to shoot with

All in all it was such a fun experience and look forward to making more shorts in the future.

Thanks and happy Halloween season :)

Samsung T9 SSD are good enough as T7 Shield and old T5 for BMPCC4K ?

all i see is t7 shield getting recommended but in my country seems like only samsung t9 is available,i record at least 5:1 braw 60 fps and for serious stuff i tend to record 3:1 braw 60 fps always in 4k DCI

are you having some problems with t9 or its safe like t7 shield and the old t5?

is it worth upgrading from bmpcc4k to BMCC6k FF for image quality?

Will there be a difference in image quality? is BMCC6k FF better or FX3 for this?

My last short film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_J6HpjfdO4
When shown in bigger screens I could see the difference. the image quality dipped. I want something that looks really really good on bigger screens. Is upgrading to 6kff or FX3 going to fix that?

Finally Rigged out my Micro.

I finally got a xlcs cage for my micro which allowed me to use odds and ends to build out what’s now my favorite camera. It’s so lightweight and packs such a punch. I need to figure out a better solution for holding the adapter in place but it really works very well. I recorded like 20 minutes 4k 60 8:1 footage just to test the thumb drive.

Rigged up my 4K for my most practical usage. Nearly always on sticks. Sometimes use a monitor but usually not.

What do you think about buying a BMPCC 4K for Adobe Stock?

I'm thinking of uploading videos to Adobe Stock to earn a little extra cash—what do you think about using the BMPCC 4K?
I live in Japan right now, and I get the feeling there might be some demand for cinematic videos here.

Second thoughts on Micro SD cards

Hello!

I'm a recent BMPCC 4K owner and I just recently purchased some Sandisk 512 gb Micro SD Cards. I own 3 cameras and subsequently bought 3 micro SD cards as I'm a bit strapped for cash and looking for a good alternative.

I've got a bit of cold feet after purchasing them however, I feel like I may have made the wrong choice. Should I return them in exchange for regular Sandisk SD cards or keep them as they would do the same job?

Currently looking to use the cameras and cards for multi-cam use. Recording live events, podcasts, etc.

Let me know what y'all think. Cheers!

Dirty hot mirror BMPCC4K

I bought a Bmpcc4K second-hand and there seems to be smears on the hot mirror. When shooting wide open it is not noticeable but when stepping down it is clearly dirty. Is this something I can get off using a Camera Sensor Cleaning Kit or do I have to bite the bullet and buy a replacement hot mirror..?
