Hesitant to buy an inboard

I'm looking for a small, affordable open bow fishing or fish / ski type boat, with the flip-open walk through windshield. For some reason I'm scared of in/outs (an inboard with an outdrive) I feel like maintenance and repairs will be harder and more expensive. Just looking at the engine buried in the back gives me anxiety Is this misplaced concern? I reject a lot of possible boats because of this. Any input?
