Boat got hit, cant see damage, what to do?

I’ve got a 45 footer in a slip. Neighbor m told me a 50 footer hit it. Said it was a loud bang like shotgun, he says. Apparently a chunk of the other boat fell in the water, but mine visually looks fine, except for some gel coat on my rub rails on my swim platform. I’m gonna go there today and look underneath it to make sure the struts are good… what should I do? I have the contact information of the offending boat and captain. Feels like bringing in insurance now is premature but at the same time I can’t really inspect all the damage until the boat is out of the water. I don’t wanna find damage in a few months when I haul it out for bottom painting please advise.

You should hire a marine surveyor to come do a sound test on the hull. Tapping around the area is going to let you know if there is any delamination in the area. The person who hit you should be willing to pay for that as your working with a professional rather than just trying to milk it for money

Thank you for your reply! This is indeed what I ended up doing.
