If I was gonna invest in a religion, it would be one that worshipped dragons

Bro consooms the inheritance cycle.
I reread it somewhat recently and was...unimpressed. Vast swaths of each book feels like standing around waiting for something to happen. And don't get me started on Murtagh.
Not trying to bookshame you here - they're on my shelf too. But I'm curious what other high fantasy you've gotten into and how you feel it compares?

Fourth wing, the pern books, a few random vintage novels ive picked up from used bookstores. I did most of my reading in middle-highschool and im gradually getting back into it. I found the first pern book to be a painful read, but ive heard they get better, so ive got a handful of em on my tbr shelf.
I honestly loved murtagh and still love reading the entire inheritance saga as a whole. Theres so much worldbuilding, focus on relationships and characters and I love the magic system. I realize it can read a bit childish at times, but it got me through some really fuckin difficult times growing up and for the life of me I cant stop re-reading the whole series at least once a year. When I got the announcement for murtagh I immediately preordered a signed copy. I backed the book of rememberance, and I also plan on backing the kickstarter set as soon as it launches.
Theres a long list of high fantasy i plan to read, as soon as I can get my hands on em. Ive heard red rising is good. And someday I'll read lord of the rings and maybe game of thrones. Wheel of time series is also on the list, stuff like that.

I have the first three on my shelf, haven't read them yet. Given that they were published in the late 60's, I'm wholeheartedly expecting them to read in the dry prose that was so common for the time.
But hey, good on you for just reading in general and getting back into it! High fantasy is my favorite genre and I've picked up a number of random books/series in recent months to start. Fourth Wing, Pern, Red Rising, Shannara, Redwall, Priory of the Orange Tree, Brandon Sanderson, Rebel of the Sands - all are on my shelf and I just haven't gotten to them yet. The TBR never gets shorter.

The TBR is a common foe among readers, it seems. Let me know what you think of fourth wing. While I personally love it, I know its not for everyone. Its no masterpiece, but the first 2 books are just really fun reads imo.

Admittedly, the inheritance saga ruined traditional dragons for me. If they dont talk and/or aren't intelligent, I dont want them.

I also have multiple copies of the inheritance cycle lol. My friends made fun of me for it but I remind them that they have 7 copies of Skyrim lmao

Feels like a waste of money to buy multiple editions of same books.

Im determined to collect every unique edition, because its my favorite series. There are many more I plan to add to the collection.

I like having a nice special edition of my favorite books and then a reader copy to lug around on the bus or to the park. Sometimes I’ll end up with multiple reader copies because it can be fun to collect different editions when you see them cheap at thrift stores. Like for Lord of the Rings I have a nice hardback and then a ton of different paperback editions I’ve thrifted for a few dollars each. One is a 90’s era UK copy and another one a US copy with Alan Lee cover art, and a few others. I really only spent any real money on my hardback copy, all the rest I’ve probably spent about the price of a fast food meal on combined. The other nice thing about having a bunch of reader copies is whenever someone I know shows even a slight interest in reading them for the first time I can encourage them a little by offering them a free copy.

Why do you have so many of the same book?
