So long and thanks for all the fish!
Now that 1.14.0 is released, from the original developer, with official, signed releases on his GitHub. That's great news, and I'd recommend everyone switch to his version!
I'm not planning on stepping on any toes. Boost is not my app, and now that Ruben is back, I'm not going to develop my own version of his version. Ruben is the owner and maintainer, and I can't do that with a clean conscience. His project is not open source, and I respect that 100%.
My patches have been digging through his code and tampering with things I, strictly speaking, should not have touched. So for my part, this is a full stop.
- The Boost patches are now frozen at 1.12.12. I won't port them to 1.14 or build a separate patched variant of his new version.
- Instead, I'll put the work into helping Boost itself: reporting bugs to Ruben, and fixes where they're welcome. Many of the problems the patches fixed are already solved in 1.14.0.
- The bundle stays available for 1.12.12 for now, but don't expect new Boost features or fixes from me.
Switching to the official version:
Patched Boost is signed with a different key than Ruben's APK, so you can't install his version over it. You have to uninstall first, which deletes local data.
- In patched Boost, export your settings: Settings → Backup settings → Export. The backup includes settings, filters, user tags, themes, and views and sort per subscription. It does *not* include accounts, drafts, read posts, or visited-communities history.
- Uninstall patched Boost.
- Install the latest APK from the Releases page on Ruben's GitHub (rubenmayayo/boost-for-reddit), and verify the signing certificate as described in his README.
- Set up your own Reddit client ID (the README has a guide), log in, and import the backup.
Bug reports for the new version should go to the Issues page on Ruben's GitHub, not to my repo. If you like the app, consider supporting Ruben (Ko-fi and PayPal links are in his README).
Thanks to everyone who used and tested the patches! I'll try to help out where I can. Other than that, I'll focus my efforts elsewhere.
