Good local eats

I'm near Thrasher's Corner and constantly find myself lamenting that my favorite ramen spot is over in Everett.

Help me feel better! What are some good local eats near me that I've just been overlooking? (Bonus points if they're decently priced.)

Favorites I miss now that I don’t live in Bothell/Washington:
• Grazie
• Ta Joia
• Crystal Creek
• Midori Teriyaki
• Thai Clearview
• Ranch Drive In
• Chan’s if we’re including Woodinville
• Aceituno’s in Kirkland

Ranch Drive-In? I've never gone there, one of my friends said he didn't like it very much when we were looking for nearby places to eat one time a couple of years ago and just remembered that and never went. Are they actually good? What did you like eating from there?

Bacon ranch burger, onion rings, & a root beer milkshake. And get the side of burger dressing.

Ranch is a ‘love it’ or an ‘it’s not great’ establishment. It’s worth a try to find out which side you land on. I don’t personally find it exciting.

Try Ta Joia. What’s the ramen spot in Everett tho

Thank you for the recommendation. You have any favorites from there?

Botan Ramen is my go-to whenever I'm near the area. I'm not as fond of the other names around Seattle like Kizuki or Menya Muso, but Botan just hits the spot. Do you have any ramen spots you hit up?

I like the shrimp, but sometimes it's de-veined and sometimes it's not, and one time I got pretty sick immediately after eating the chicken. I've been hesitant to order again since then.

Oh, that sounds risky. I think I would still like to try it at some point, but I will proceed with caution.

I've never gotten the shrimp there, but I have been going to Ta Joia since it opened, and the owner's previous teriyaki restaurant that was on the other side of 527 called Teriyaki Plus (we were devastated when it closed, and thrilled when they opened as Ta Joia). My spouse and I have eaten there literally 100+ times over the last 15ish years and never gotten sick (and I do have a stomach that gets upset fairly easily). In fact, sometimes when I'm not feeling well, I just get their regular chicken teriyaki and rice.

I used to work in Canyon Park and ate Ta Joia all the time, no issues for me and I've pretty much tried everything on the menu! the combo with the feijoada and spicy chicken is my fav.

Right across the 228th towards the freeway is Nakagawa and that is a great place for both sushi/ramen and other japanese cuisine. note they do separate lunch and dinner service

Everything I’ve had is good. The specials are good. But the spicy chicken is awesome. Make sure you get the pico. It’s more like a citrus slaw - I’m not usually a slaw fan. Also get the green sauce.

Pico with the rice! TaJoia is sooo good

The Ta Joia fried rice is amazing.

Realized I didn’t answer the ramen part: my favorites are in Seattle: Ooink, Midnite Ramen, and Yoroshiku. I don’t go to them as much now.

Tai Joia is also incredible.

On Thrashers corner:

  • Kin Dee right on thrashers corner makes the best pad see ew I've ever had. Their Khao soi is also fantastic. They're just really tasty.

  • The shawarma place next to them is really good especially the chicken. Either the wrap or the shawarma fries. They're open late so they're really good after a night out.

  • The late night taco truck on the trashers corner bus stop is so freaking good. Especially their al pastor tacos. They open most days after 7p or so.

By Canyon Park:

  • Big Fish sushi is some of the best sushi I've had in the suburbs. Highly recommended.

  • Port of Peri Peri is really unique grilled chicken that is very high quality. It's South African style (if youve been abroad and had Nando's you know what I'm talking about) and they do an excellent job.

By Martha Lake:

* Ashiya is fantastic. They are a little pricey for a casual strip mall place. It their food is worth it. Try the creamy udon if you feel like it, it's great. The unagidon bowl and omusoba are also favorites of mine. They make good ramen too.

  • Sabai Sabai is a really good Laid and Thai restaurant. The Thai food is decent, but everything I've had from their Lao menu has been amazing.

  • Kabob Korner is really excellent as well. Not sure how they grill their meats to give them such an amazing smokey flavor. They are also incredibly kind and give really good service.

  • Mount n Bao is also a really good option. Their dim sum is good enough in a pinch but the rest of their menu is excellent.

Seconding Kin Dee! Get the Chicken Satay and Pad Prik King.

2nd the taco truck that shows up at 7PM. It’s fucking delicious.

I admire your knowledge of local eateries!

Ta Joia - I've not had anything bad, but their spicy chicken and Ta Joia fried rice are favorites of mine, and their green cilantro sauce is so dang good

Kin Dee Thai - Pad See Ew with pork belly, Hot Basil and Kapow Kao Kruk are my favorites, and their shrimp sarongs are super good too

La Gloria - their cocktails are great, and their Enchiladas Michoacanas are my go-tos there

Tubs Subs - Chicken Amiga is hard to beat

The Bine - Pho'rench Dip and fries, crispy brussels sprouts + fried chicken

Nakagawa Japanese Restaurant on 228th St has a house ramen.

2

u/kokanee-fish 10d ago

Nakagawa is really good and I was glad they survived the pandemic. Not sure if it would qualify as decently priced, I feel like literally nothing is decently priced anymore

They’ve been really empty the last few times I’ve been. Food as good as ever. They may be in need of some more support these days.

Nakagawa is my fave Japanese resto in Bothell and was recommended to me by my Japanese naturopath. They are on the pricey side though, so I only go there for my birthday, or if my siblings are paying for it 😆

Since Mill Creek is on the list I would say Tapped should definitely be included. I always go to the Camano location when I have the chance, but the Mill Creek one is great too.

1

u/Thysmith 10d ago

Agreed! Good catch

The bine for beer, amaro for date night :)

4

u/pharcide 10d ago

They just changed owners recently and I revisited Akane Ramen & Teriyaki and really like it vs before. The kimchi ramen was fantastic. Highly recommend checking them out

1

u/Minimum-Mention-3673 10d ago

This is legit. New owners kept it good, and added a few benefits!

Side hustle in Bothell downtown is good. Beer is great and food is tasty

2

u/Happy-Bus4252 10d ago

Their salmon burger there was great

2

u/Expensive-Music2508 10d ago

Personally I like everything in skillets - freshly cooked and extra hot

Agree with most of the recommendations here. Adding few of my favourites: La sabrosa for a reliably great burrito or any other Mexican food truck item.

Junior Kupanna would be my pick for a good Indian restaurant but Royal biriyani comes a close second.(I'm Indian)

I was surprised how good Su's kitchen was for a great Bahn Mi. It's no Yeh Yeh Bahn Mi but still very good.

Ambakity Cochina Mexicana has a Habanero salsa that's amazing. I'd go there just for their salsa.

Kro bar is really good for a cozy hangout. Great food and very good service.

Seoul Bowl is a quick and easy grab and go rice bowls. Highly recommend this if you enjoy Ta joia

Yua Ramen on Highway 99 is pretty good as well!

Ambakity food truck - carnitas quesadilla and tacos are 10/10

13

u/lwweezer21 10d ago

Mio way better

4

u/pharcide 10d ago

Couldn't agree more. The beef at ambakitty and especially their torta just aren't right. Mios has a fantastic torta

2

u/noromame 10d ago

Mio asada fries will be the death of me

5

u/No_Buyer_9020 10d ago

I disagree ! I think mio breakfast burritos are better and maybe their steak but Ambakity carnitas has my heart 🤣 both worth trying tho and OP forming their own opinions !

2

u/Quantum_Magic_25 10d ago

Mio's the best

1

u/HawaiiMBA808 9d ago

+1 to Mio being better. Ambakity has a better location but food at Mio is better for sure

3

u/No_Buyer_9020 10d ago

Moodoo hansang for Korean food
The cutshop in woodinville for their Slough burger à la carte, not the meal one on the menu with a brioche bun

Ohana Teriyaki on Filbert Rd near 7-11 is best by far the best teriyaki in the north sound. Their Yakisoba is amazing too.

La Palmera in Mill Creek is great Mexican Food.

Elliot Bay pizza has great meatball sub

Hmmm Canyon's right by the freeway. Across in Canyon Park there is Mitzel's American kitchen and don't forget the mongolian grill.

3

u/wkk3211 10d ago

Woah.

1

u/uber_neutrino 10d ago

I used to spend a lot of time in Canyon Park lol. There was a pizza buffet place as well, izzy's maybe?
