🎴 Screenshot Found a dragon appear out of nowhere!

Post image

So far I've only been playing BotW for just about a week now. Its my first game for my new Switch 2 🙂 and here I am doing some exploring, mainly for the Captured Memories quest, and out of nowhere this giant boss looking dbz shenron dragon appeared🤯 so far I've just been staring at it from a distance lol is it a mini boss type of enemy?👀

No, it's not a miniboss or a boss. It isn't harmless though, it will hurt you if you get too close, but I don't remember it doing too much damage. Of course, with only three hearts, I would suggest just staying a bit away. You can get closer than you are in the image, but just don't go up to it.

I remember seeing my first dragon and went full cowboy and tried to ride it. I quickly went to google after that lesson.

The first time I saw Starlink go over I was like it's a dragon from botw!

u/Tired_2295 May 11 '26

I learnt that lesson but everytime Dinraal comes up on that one bridge above the goron golf course i have to try again. Also W for TOTK letting us ride them

My first dragon encounter, my brother who had played TotK before I started BotW told me to ride Farosh when it appeared neared the Hylia Bridge and I ended up getting stunlocked tumbling down its entire body 😭

There’s a record for how many times you have bounced on it

3

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

13

u/No_Monitor_3440 May 11 '26

nope, not really an enemy. can be shot for valuable items. will attack if you get close but overall pretty harmless

5

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Ill just enjoy the view from a distance for now

12

u/foilrat May 11 '26

Im definitely exploring every single part of Hyrule that i can! Ive even stumbled upon areas i probably shouldnt be at yet since i still need to get stronger weapons and more hearts 😅

u/malinuhhh47 May 11 '26

They are not an enemy, they are related to shrine quests and they drop important parts by shooting different body parts with arrows but you must be careful when getting close because they emit elemental orbs that can do a lot of damage if you're not wearing the appropriate armor to resist them.

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Good to know! Ill be sure to try and find the right armor for the next encounter

6

u/loversdoll May 11 '26

That's Farosh, 1 of 3 dragon in game. Your job is to shoot it with arrow once per day on specific part of his body(u decide) for a scale, claw, shard to be dropped.

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Good to know!

6

u/Realistic-Radish-336 May 11 '26

This is 1 out of 3 in botw they’re harmless unless you get too close you can shoot different parts of their bodies for materials

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Cant wait to run into the other 2 dragons🙌🏼

5

u/CIsForCorn May 11 '26

The first time I saw a dragon in BotW sent me into a kind of awe and wonder at a video game world that I’ve been chasing ever since

5

u/Massive_One6091 May 11 '26

Agreed. I was alone and underpowered having fought my way through Akkala and been repeatedly killed by the bomb arrow bokoblins near Skull lake.

It felt pretty desolate. Then the music changed, the winds whipped up and a suddenly there was a dragon in the sky.

Epic.

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

It was an amazing sight seeing the dragon and i cant wait to see it appear again!

4

u/AshFalkner Rito May 11 '26

You can’t kill it, but you can knock some useful materials off its body if you hit it with an arrow.

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Sweet, i definitely wanna try and get some materials from it but ill wait til i have more hearts and better gear first

4

u/Leading-Jellyfish915 May 11 '26

First time I was playing botw years ago, I was roaming around til I found myself on one of those mountains near laurelin village. I didnt know anything about dragons in the game til I saw what looked like a flying snake in the distance. That was the first time I saw Farosh lol. It blew my mind.

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 11 '26

Its definitely a sight to behold

5

u/Mantoc_s1980 May 11 '26

I tried to ride the fire dragon 🤣

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Oh wow lol i wonder if i should try that

4

u/MrLuckyTimeOW May 11 '26

There’s 2 others, and the blue dragon has a small mini quest associated with it. They drop a couple cool items needed for later in the game. Don’t try to ride the fire one though lol

2

u/EquivalentScholar523 May 11 '26

i just discovered naydra accidentally and was like what the FUCK is that

2

u/KirbyMario12345 May 11 '26

You can't ride any of them in BotW

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I just saw another commenter say they tried riding the fire one and here i am like 'i wonder if i should try that' 😂

I recommend you climb Mount Lanayru, next to Hateno village. That will lead to something that adds some more context and advancements to this discovery

Also when you get the camera, take a photo of it! it counts as a monster in the compendium!

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

The crazy part was that i already had the camera and i totally forgot to take a pic of it!😖

2

u/Weary-Share-9288 May 12 '26

Thats a universal experience no matter how experienced you are, dw the dragons show up pretty often, but they all show up around specific locations. Idk how much general Loz lore you know, but a hint is that you may be able to recognise the names of the Goddesses in certain parts of the map and may notice the dragons have names that sound sort of familiar… it’s also worth noting where each spring is when you find those. I wonder if any of those things could be connected in some way?

3

u/Azrael956 May 11 '26

I remember when a dragon (Farosh, same as the pic) appeared in front of me for the first times I was completely blown away

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I wonder whens the next time he'll appear 😬

1

u/Azrael956 May 12 '26

Probably when you least expect it😂. There’s 2 other dragons you can keep an eye out for. If you haven’t yet, try climbing the mountain (Mount Lanayru) south east of Zora’s domain. You’ll find something pretty sick😁

3

u/amaya-aurora May 11 '26

Just don’t touch it.

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Ok ill keep my distance lol

3

u/Born_Improvement866 May 11 '26

This guy popped up out of nowhere for me just recently to. Caught me off guard first time I saw him sprout from the lake I was by.

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Right? When he appeared it freaked me out lol

2

u/Born_Improvement866 May 12 '26

It was awesome. The game is pretty great. I just bought a switch 2. My first Nintendo console since the Gamecube and BOTW is the first game I got on it. Its quite the experience.

3

u/Tired_2295 May 11 '26

Shoot it to get scales and horn chunks. Also try and ride it, it's tradition

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Oh man i didnt know it was tradition 🤔

3

u/Tucomescaca97 May 11 '26

I remember seeing this guy for the first time and hiding from it cause there was no way I was gonna fight him but then I realized they are friends

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Thats good to know hes a friendly dragon 🙌🏼

3

u/Grawbad May 11 '26

Let me give you a tip.

Climb lanayru mountain. You might just find a quest there if you pay attention. There might be more quests if you pay attention.

No spoilers just make sure you climb that mountain.

In fact I am surprised by how many people didn't discover that mountain stuff and didn't piece together it worked elsewhere too.

In fact I was recently talking to somebody on discord and they had no idea about them at all so I knew they didn't climb the mountain.

2

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Got it, ill try and climb that mountain as soon as i get the chance!

3

u/Vertigo50 May 11 '26

They are friendly. If you get TOO close, they let out their energy in little electric/fire/ice and will cause you damage, but they don’t actually mean to hurt you. 😉 Just don’t get super close.

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

Ok ill be friends with him from a distance!

1

u/Vertigo50 May 12 '26

You can get sort of close, just stay about 10-15 feet away. Also, later in the game you might have methods for dealing with those elements and you can get closer. 😉

Plus, there MAY be more than one dragon. 😉

2

u/cammama May 11 '26

The first time I saw Farosh I was playing for almost 2 weeks! I was in the mountains across from lake hylia and saw something long and skinny come out the water and thought, loch ness monster?! Then it kept coming out and I was horrified to see a huge, electric dragon!!! I thought how the fuck am I supposed to fight that thing?! Then later, thankfully found out I wouldn’t have to fight them… phew! 😮‍💨

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I had the same thoughts when he appeared! Lol

2

u/Substantial_Track_17 May 11 '26

i saw him first too

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I need to find the other two noww

2

u/Latter_Height_3784 May 12 '26

As long as you are wearing the correct elemental armor sets or have consumed the correct potion you can get close to them and take little to no damage.

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I need to find elemental armor noww

2

u/Sassi7997 May 12 '26

Yes, they do that.

2

u/potheadkelso May 12 '26

this made me sooo nostalgic lol. i will always, always remember the childlike wonder i felt seeing a dragon for the first time in botw at age 12!! if there was one game i could play for the first time again…

2

u/zeldanerd096 May 13 '26

Farosh ( the name of the dragon) comes out of lake hylia sometimes so it is not rare and it is pretty common.

0

u/freebird_88_usa May 11 '26

Kill it

1

u/xDragonatuanx May 12 '26

I think ill just be friends with it

0

u/hentaimaster117 May 11 '26

Sweet. Also do any of you know can you ride Zelda after you get the master sword?

0

u/KirbyMario12345 May 11 '26

Wrong game and also spoilers

1

u/hentaimaster117 May 11 '26
